A big thanks to all involved on Sunday. It's good to have a little underground brotherhood. As for whether or not this form is "entertainig" or not, hop on a board, try the course and see if you are entertained. It's not about how it looks or how it casn be packaged, it's about how it feels and I think everyone can relate to that.

Not a big slalom person myself but lacking pizzazz has never been a reason to keep something off T.V. There are lots of things on tv that I find incredibly boring and don't watch until the end of the season, until the finals,"when things really matter",If Slalom was on channel 2 and a ball game was on 4 there's no question not even close.

Spectator,I agree that the flash and pizazz of a ramp/vert contest may be lacking in slalom, but that's 'cause the CRASHES don't look so scary.Back in the day, there used to be an event I loved to watch;Banked Slalom, but that requires a snake-run in a skate park.Maybe in the near future,it will make a return to the competition scene?!

Spectator, if you're partial to banks, pools, etc of course the slalom would be less entertaining. That's just your personal preference. But for me, it was WAY FUN to be in on it. I had a blast even though I wish I would've skated better. It was awesome to be racing with guys that just love to skate and have fun. This was a high fun, low competition event and that's what made it a great time for all. (well, most of us all probably) I'm looking forward to more events like this in the future. Maybe all you SoCal folks will have to head up here for the next race. I think NorCal is less windy this time of the year. =Þ Peter

i was there today and to be honest, it looked kinda lame. i'm not tryin' to put the slalom guys down but i'm partial to banks, ramps, and pools. the whole longboard thing just doesn't look that fun. oh well, i don't wanna spoil anybody's fun. just thought i'd put my 2 cents in and see if anyone else agrees with me.

So who all is coming out for the West LA College Race? I know there's going to be a pretty good crowd from Southern CA. Anybody from up north or elsewhere making the trip. It will be good to finally put some faces with the computer nick-named disembodied online voices around here. Later,

Temecula with the Skategeezer and Bob Loftin

Just thought I'd post a little not to let you all know that we'll be at Temecula Skatepark tomorrow night (Monday) for the evening session 7:00-9:30.
Michael Brooke, The Concrete Wave, Skategeezer Home Page, and International Longboarder Magazine, is out from Toronto. Also out is Bob Loftin from Bob's Trick Tips. So come out and show a little Southern CA spirit.
Directions to Temecula Skatepark.
Take 15 North from San Diego area or South from LA area to Temecula. Exit at Rancho California Road, go about 1 block east of 15. Turn right on Ynez Road. Turn left on Rancho Vista Road. Go about a mile and you'll see a large park on the right. The Skatepark is located in the park next to the outdoor roller hockey rink. (You can also get there by taking 79 East, but they seem to always be doing construction on 79, so you're probably better off going Rancho California.)
We were going to go to the 7:00 session. The session runs from 7:00-9:30. There's a $5.00 fee to skate, plus a $1.00 annual nonresident fee. They require helmets and full pads including wrist guards. They do rent them, but they're crappy and sometimes they run out.
Also I was thinking of doing the Orange County Dump road as a tune up for the Slalom race on the 21st.

NYLBA fall race, belated response

I was hoping someone with more info would post, but I showed up late did the course, but didn't get a time. It was great. There were about 20+ people, the weather was great and the organizers were very nice, and even took my picture when I started, where it is now, I don't know? It was the central park loop (10k), If you've never been there, the only obsticals are joggers, bikes, and rollerbladers, some rolling hills but nothing really scarry. I think I had the shortest board, Joe Rippy Flexdex, about 36" In conclusion the NYLBA is a great bunch of folks that are worth checking out, as for Who Won? I don't know. I heard the winning time was about 25 min. - Mark
