Great site here. I'm looking for some of you heavy duty skaters to get together here in the Northwest (Oregon) to do some downhilling.

After reading Randal's note on the "Coleman Slide" on the "Riding Techniques" page of your site I had to submit my own log entry. As an east bay downhill board rider since the early sixties I applaud your site and your organization. I made (and fondly recall) the series of transitions from hacked rollerskates on plywood; to the red decked "Roller Derby" metal wheeled boards; to cannabalized rink-clay loose-bearing wheels on mahogany longboards(still homemede); through the commercial clay era and on into urethane.
Cliff Coleman was already a ledgend when I was devotedly downhill riding on the Shasta, Buena Vista and other Berkeley runs in the late sixties. He and the other Hobie teamers from the east bay were our idols.
I ran into Cliff around 1973 and am proud to report that I re introduced him (yes, he was out of riding for a time) to downhilling, on Tunnell Road and Hiller Highlands. His career since then is public record, mine is not, having been obscured by career and family obligations. I try to drive Cliff and his sliding buddies up the hill when I have time and intend to stay in touch with your group through this website. Keep riding and keep writing.

hi! i like to surf longboards in the water and i'd like to experience the same in the streets. as i am german and longboarding is not that well-known in the old world, it's quite hard for me to get any information 'bout this subject. i tried a sector9-cloud9 once and liked it a lot. what would you recommend and - by the way - do you have any idea where to buy/order a longboard as a german without paying with everthing you have? thanks, sepp

I can't believe there is an assosiation for downhilling. I've been screeming down hills on an old fiberflex with indi 215 and kripto 70's since I was in the fourth grade and now I'm 25 and still riding strong. My neighborhood back in Portland Oregon is natorious for it. I thought we were the only ones keeping the tradion alive. Last year I was clocked at 52 mph on Cottonwood pass in Colorado. Its the ultimate downhill advernture. 15 miles of winding pavement throught the 14 thousand foot peeks of Colorado. Baby smooth and 13% downgrade with a perfect run out. Most of the cruising is 25 to 35 mph and extremely controlled.

We,ve found that thicker ply makes for easier carving. As its alot cheaper to buy it's good for entry level riders. Does anyone know a Kryptonics dealer in England??

Great sight! I am interested in getting stories about longboarding on my Skategeezer Page. I invite you all to go to the links section and check it out. But more importantly, I encourage you to send me an email with details on your skate experiences (from the 60's,70's or 80's) Also, if anyone from the Toronto, Buffalo area is interested in setting up a downhill meet for spring 97, let me know.
