My friends and I are making our longboards by ourselves and I have to say that it is much better because it gives the board character and personality. I already have one longboard that I bought, it's a California Classic. It rides real smooth. I love to cruise around town with my friends.
LONGBOARDING RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,
Great site. My wife bought me a GRAVITY long board and I'm
probably the only person that owns one in Quebec (Great
White North, ey !). I was wondering what the people that
ride them look like... Now I know.
I'll try to send pictures of when I ride the ramp.
Salut.

this page is the shit man. The review page is the coolest i've already got trucks and wheels but i didn't know of any shops where i could get a longboard. a friend and i have been looking for shops for about a month but then i found this page i live in lynnwood, wa and the closest places i've found are in oregon and canada but thats all right because i think its worth it to drive that far for a longboard.

the first time i was ever exposed to longboarding was a video of tom sims and stacy perelta. great video, cant remember the name though. i longboard in colorado springs and a little in denver. i mainly ride a gravity board, but i also ride a powell with schmidt sticks and a gullwing pro and superpro. if anyone who reads this lives anywhere in colorado, e-mail me and maybe we can ride sometime. also, if anyone knows of good wood for longboards, email me.

On 6/2/1997 jason and how he STOPS at fast speeds! wrote in from ()

HOW DO YOU STOP AT FAST SPEEDS? jCII@AOL.COM
POWER SLIDE SUCKS/SKID RULES

I am an expert downhill skateboarder/surfer/snowboarder
for 15 years. I've tried all the longboard skateboards and
I prefer riding an abbreviated longer version of an
oldschool skateboard with a wide tail, because I am able to
skid.

I mainly want to emphasize that most down hill skater
can and have no way of stopping. The powerslide only works
on snowboards and is foolish to try doing it on fast
downhill skating. I consider myself on of Californias best
downhill skaters. The problem with the powerslide is that it
will only work safely at speeds less than 15 mph
and on certain surfaces.
However, skidding works at any speed and on any surface
if down properly. I have devised my Hi tech skid in which I
grab the nose with my right and pull hard for more friction
on the tail and virtually an immediate stop. I've done this
at speeds as high as 45 mph.
I LOVE DOWNHILL SKATING IN THE RAIN, AND SKIDDDING IS
THE ONLY WAY TO STOP.
MANY PEOPLE HAVE CLAIMED TO ME THAT THEY CAN POWERSLIDE
AT HIGH SPEEDS WITHOUT A PROBLEM. HOWEVER WHEN I ACTUALLY
CHALLENGED THEM MOST OF THEM COULD NOT STOP USING THE POWER
SLIDE AND FAST SPEEDS.
I CHALLLENGE ANYONE TO BRAKING DUE-OFF.
LET FACE IT YOU CAN'T GENERALIZE EVERYTHING ABOUT
SNOWBOARDING TO SKATEBOARDING AND VICE VERSA!

Great to see an informative page on such a cool cruising sport.
I have recently made a fine purchase of a longboard which I have been using in the rather inverse area of Ca, called Eastbourne in the UK.
It's a place full of old ladies with grey hair just looking at you with so much respect as you cruise past their zimmer frames on your longboard.
I will keep posted and hope to pay a visit out to CA later this summer..

I love this site! Longboarding is one of the ultimate ways to have fun. I live in Lawrence KS and there are some huge hills on the KU campus. One of my friends ended up with a concusion after trying to be Guy Gundy in the 70's, but at the same time I took 3rd in a freestyle contest that was going on at the top of the hill..YEAH! I did it all on a double kicktail DURAFLEX. I'm 32 now and still love to skate, my current longboard is a 44 inch OLD GROWTH, W\169 Indy's stage two and RED KRYPS. Those RED ones just rule!! also have an old Schmidt Stix longboard with the same setup. Old Growth Skateboards are made in Idaho and have a really cool shape. Check them out! Contact Michael Lorenzen at: 1201 Pine Street, Sand Point, Idaho 83864. GO JAYHAWKS!!!

I have a new product for longboards, or any board, that
adds speed, increases lateral friction, and smoothes the
ride. Problem: I need all you speed freaks to write back to
this page telling why you're tired of skating slowly. Tell me
why you need a new bolt-on product that might just double
your speed! I need the info for my business plan. The more
info I get, the better my plan will look and the faster I
can get them into shops! Thank you, Kurt.

By the way, to the guy who is looking for PLYWOOD, contact;
The Plank Co. They sell a 5/8 X 9 ply phenolic coated sheets
for around $125.00 a sheet, 4" X 8" It's called
Trench Sheeting. Good Luck!
get it into shops!

Hey guys...I had a GREAT time at the NCDSA meet at Refugio Park today... The gang was friendly and I really enjoyed the different styles everyone came with.
More of you reading this should try to make it to the next meet. Maybe someone could bring some slalom cones next time.
