i go to school at FSU, and there are some nice hills on campus to just cruise on. last night i was out there doing my thing, and i got stopped by the cops twice. They told me that i couldn't skate on the road, that i would get hit by car. It was 2::30 in the morning, and there were no cars. I went out that late to get away from cars. It just really pisses me off that the cops tell me everywhere i can't ride, but then there's no where i can ride. Oh yeah, he told me to ride on the sidewalk...yeah right, that might happen. Anyways, i was just wondering if anyone knew of any places in or near tally (FSU) that are good for riding or if anyone had any ideas on what to do about the cops. thanks for reading, and ride with soul. Ric

We`re longboard happy, we live in Brewter on Cape Cod, Mass. There aren`t any very gnarly hills, but we ride what we can. We find that sitting down on our longboards is pretty cool. But standing up is still THE bomb. You get a little wobble when you get going fast but you can ride it out(wobble sucks) If anyone knows of any spamtastic places to go around here please contact me.

WHITE LINE FEVER thoughts on rolling love
It's best when you can hear your own heartbeat, when you can feel the wind cooling the sweat on your scalp, the small of your back, when your bare feet become part of the hiss and clackety-clak of a ragged urethane adhesion, when your world is running in greased grooves.
Decisions, decisions...driveway bottom turning banking, trimmed hedge tubes, long arcing perfect cutbacks, and every one of them with the dream of an offshore wind pelting your back with salt spray, a vertical section standing and muscling before you, the perfect hump of a round blue shoulder just waiting for the bite of your outside rail.
Push, push...knees torquing, ankles communicating, hands skimming the urban earth, the hot, burning touch of the asphalt the only reminder, the only sense that can bring you back from the sea in your head.
Turn, turn... your eyes three moves ahead, the whole world racing, your chest swelled to the speed of sound.
A pebble, a twig, a wheel ground into the deck...you crash and burn, you tuck and roll, you stand...and you drown. Check the scrapes, an elbow, a knee, a knuckle...blood. You wipe it quickly, feeling the sting, the bite. You shake it out, kick the board back onto It's wheels and you are alive again...a song in your head, the ocean in your viens.
Push, push...coast, crouch, leaning into the speed that presses into your ears, you are alone again with the surf and your thoughts, your imagination and your dreams.
Since the days of a sister's rollerskate bent-nailed to the bottom of a two-by-four, it's been ours, this world. It's been yours. It's worth it. It's worthy. Our souls on cement.-Matt George

Has any one ridden the Cosmic RiderII by Sector9? I was thinking about getting a new ride, and the CRII caught my eye. I was wondering how it would ride compared to either the Cruiser by sector9, or a Gravity board... one more thing, any of you guys interested in testing some new longboard skate co, email this guy: funtoolz@aol.com we've been communicating back and forth about his new deck idea. Oh well if you have an opinion about any of this drop me a line or contact me at frankenpak@hotmail.com, or frankenpak@aol.com

I live in Sanitago, Chile (S. America: for you freaks who failed geography at school) and longboards are almost unheard of down here, so I built my own. I need some advice on what type, size, name of wheel should I be using on semi-bad quality streets. ( hard, soft, 65 mm 70 mm ?????)

There's a new webzine online covering skate, snow and surf. The first issue of BoardPark features a longboard section aimed at letting people know what they're all about. We also review the new Sector 9 video. Point your browsers to www.boardpark.com and check the Features links on the home page.

I am a longboarder and retired roadluge racer living in the Lake Tahoe area. I am trying to publish a longboarding/roadluge/all-terrain boarding mag. I had a partner who was (allegedly) doing the graphics/art direction for the project. He has dumped on me and I am looking for a qualified graphic/layout artist with the computer goods to get the job done right. I would prefer someone involved in the scenes that the mag will cover. If you are that person, please e-mail me a.s.a.p. Thanks, and remember: Tune up, Turn on, Drop in! ...that little line is C 1997 speed&soul.

ROLLIN' the Sector 9 video Just seen it a few times now so heres my opinion for what it is worth : Ever had to deal with dickheads saying "what do you use them long skateboards for" or new schoolers saying they are for sad old farts etc that you can't do any real tricks on them. Well the answer is have a copy of Rollin ' around to shove in their faces ! My only complaint is that it aint long enough (3o mins of bliss is not enough) It has every conceivable terrain skated during the video. The music is good and there are thankfully no pseudo "funny" bits (well not a great deal). Also its good to see the contrast betwen lingboarding and surfing on the screen. there is one shot of joel Tudor hanging ten on a perfect wave with a boarder hanging ten down the road superimposed on top.The video quality is good. As for the skating there is something for everyone from extreme down hill speed and carving to technical street stuff. Also included is some footage from real old skate films which are good if you haven't seen them before. All in all I can think of no way better to spend$20. It did what all good skate vids should made me go out and skate !

In the photo section of this site Scott Ferrel is riding a board made by Ward Coffee. I went to Encinal High school in Alameda with a skater/surfer/aqua jock named Ward Coffee. This was in the mid 70's Ward are you the same dude? If so leave me a note here and let me know. I'll get in touch. I'm doing the downhill skate thing too and diggin' it, it's good to be on a board again after a long absence. Nor cal looks like the happening place for downhill skate, wish I was there! Skate safe, Tannis

Is there anyone out there interest in trying to get an "old school" concrete skatepark built in San Diego. Now that AB 1296 has passed. Seems like the city of San Diego could do something better with our tax dollars than what it is doing, name build a skatepark. If your interested, drop me a line.

I am doing some research for a magazine. I am wondering if there are any high school skateboarding teams. If you know of one please pass along the info. I'm also interested in organizations for female skateboarders. I appreciate any and all help.

It's great that in France your laws aren't as strict. I'm taking French in school. Hopefully sometime I can go there and skate with you--no cops to get mad!

Here in France, we have (at this time) few or no problems riding in the streets when there is no one on it. I saw a few cops in car but they didn't arrest me.
Hope the stupid laws of USA and Australia won't reach us!
Take care

I need a little help. My memory reduced brain saw an ad in a catalog (i think) and it was for a board that I now wanna get. It was longer than a regular skateboard but had trucks on the end so the wheel were half over the board. Like this 0----0 It also had footstraps. If you know what type of board this is or where i can get one email me.

I too agree that the persecution must stop. Skateboarding isn't hurting anyone. My brother skateboarded back in the 80's and never had any problems. It's my personal belief that half of our problems come from our stereotype. We must work to change it. Please e-mail me for more information regarding a newspaper article I am writing. I would love to here your opinions and stories.
