Try hitting a cow at 70 mph....in my Corvette. It was actually a stalemate the cow was killed and the 'Vette was totalled. My bod wasn't in that great a shape either.

recently while skitching (holding onto a moving car, truck or bus)i had a harsh stack while going 70km/h (around 35mph)up a hill and removed all the skin on my back as well as the shirt. It also burnt through my cargo shorts in to my leg. So if you are going to skitch where safty gear

Okay so my vocabulary isn't too good, but I got my point across. Also add to those signs no street luging. They have them here in Indiana. I've seen them and rode down the hill anyway. Not too smart on my part either. Like I said on a previous post: "We all get goofy sometimes" Hell I'm 34 years old you'd figure I'd know better. But you get to a good spot and see that sign-what do we say? F--k'em

First off, if you were sucking and blowing through a straw to maneuver your wheelchair you'd be a quadrapaleic (quad = 4 para = 2).

Secondly, I'm going to have to agree with the previous two posts. What's the advantage of riding without at least a helmet? Save your damn skull to ride another day. If nothing else your severe injuries are gonna cost us tax money to get you into an ambulence and to a hospital where they can try and put your brain back in. But more importantly, 'they' alreday outnumber 'us' so don't make the ratio even more 'they' oriented. The more you get injured the less we get to skate, the more signs go up that read 'no rollerblading or skate boarding in park' or on sidwalks or in town et cetera and ad infinitum.

Put on a damn helmet or we'll kick your asses.

The Voice of Reason is correct. Myself I am not a punk kid anymore. I have matured and now have a wife and kids. I warn people about not using safety gear (some like to brag about it on this board). Put yourself in my shoes. What if I couldn't provide for my family or worse I had to suck and blow through a straw to spell out "please change diaper," because I wrecked and will now be a para-plegic (I hope I spelled it right) for the rest of my life. Being a burden to your mom and dad is one of life's thrills, but not to your wife and kids. You can't play with your kids, you can't do anything. An eternity of blackness is not the worst thing that can result from a bad wreck. Trust me I know a guy that is experiencing that revelation right now. A life of being bedridden is not really living now is it. Luckily he only has a numb ass for the rest of his life. He can walk and do anything he wants once his injuries heal (including playing with his two year old). The doctor says one more shot like that and it's a wheelchair for life. Then I got to wondering about my life and what it would be like in a chair with wheels. Other than popping wheelies it would suck. Be careful guys-and girls.

Please try to be mindful of the FACT that each of us Longboarders is REPRESENTING ALL OF US.
If we want any respect at all, it will have to be earned. We are the Ambassadors of our sport. Putting other people at risk does very little for our image.

I had slept about 5 hours a night for the past week and decided to go longboarding. Not a good idea. The first hill we went down didn't look that bad so we went down it. My friend ahead of me said it was faster than it look. He wasn't kidding. Couldn't make the 90 degree turn at the bottom of the hill and had to bail into a rock garden at about 25mph. Hit the sidewalk, flew for about 15 feet, over 2 rocks and a bush, broke a wooden fence with my foot, and had to run over several large lava rocks and through another bush on my hands and feet (still going very fast) got a huge bump and ripped the end of my pinky off. Running away before the people saw their fence this lady comes out of her house and says to us "9.9!" "I would have given it a 10 though if you had broken a bone or something." She's pretty cool. Then we decided to go find a better hill. Hah. The next one didn't look that bad, until we went through the second blind intersection. It had more cracks than plumbing company and they were about 4 inches across and pretty deep. The flat part at the end just turned out to be not as steep as the beginning, and luckily no cars were coming, (I didn't have the right of way) got to the end to find.... Another 90 degree turn, one way went downhill, the other was a dead end. Going about 25 again, I head for a nice lawn with some trees and a big plastic deer ornament. Hit the sidewalk, slipped, slid under the deer butt (turned out to be a real dear and I scared the crap out of it), slid on my side between a 2 foot gap between the trees, slid accross the lawn onto some gravel, scraped up my hand. Geeze, that day sucked. Oh, for all you safety guys, no crash gear, and my shirt was off!!!!!
Peace
Gabe

Well here's another story about luging/downhilling where we shouldn't. It does not do any of our sports any good when this happens. We all get goofy sometimes and go downhills that we shouldn't. I know I do it too. What would have happened if you would have hit the guard? You would probably be arrested right now and spent at least one night in jail. If your parents or yourself couldn't afford bail then you out then you would sit until your arraignment. That would be a day or two later. If you plead guilty (to anything from disorderly conduct-misdemeanor or up to wreckless endangerment-felony and jail time) you would get a hefty fine and possible jail time depending on your age. You did the best thing you could've done in the situation you were in by hitting the hay bale or whatever it was. So long as you didn't hit her. Passing up the hill would have been the best choice. You put yourself and the other people there in bigtime danger. You could have hurt many people by doing this but you didn't so I guess all is well. I would hope in the future you will chose a better road to go down. Please don't think I'm totally ragging you out here I'm not. Once you hit someone the law will now know to look out for us (all lugers and downhillers) and in your area downhilling will cease to exist. Just be careful. Hell I like to go down roads where I can pass up cars myself, but I always think better of it and refrain from doing it because I know that I could get smooshed by some blue hair or i could hurt someone else. My luge buddies would be pissed if they couldn't go down a road or some law was passed to make lugeing illegal. I also hope you were wearing a helmet.

I'm a Montreal, Canada rider and tried to cross a parade at the bottom of a hill I was ripping. It was, closed off to traffic and I couldn't resist... when I was about to cross the parade between two waves of people, some idiot security guard decided that she was going to protect the innocent and threw herself in front on me yelling "You won't get through!!!" I managed to spare her life while hittin' 40.
needless to say that i bailed and opened myself up...

next time she dies...

Me and my friend (BoardWildMan) were bombing this steep hill. When we came down we had to cross this not so big road. There are usually no cars there, but today there was! My friend who were in front of me, got over the road before the car came. I managed to stop, in front of it. The driver pulled down the window and show me his finger. He also said "You are never gonna get old by doing that" I didn`t say nothing and rode down to my friend who were waiting on the other side. When I was on my way home, i had to cross that same road, and the same driver came. And i got a he had more to say!

Going down upper Patton in Portland -its not really a great boarding hill, not too steep and not well paved - but it gets you to some of the classic P-town runs. I look back and a school bus is right on my ass, and all the kids are hanging out the windows screaming "Hit him! hit him!!" The bus driver is obliging their demand. I freak, speed wobble, recover, only the wipe out first into a fire hydrant the a big laurel hedge - pretty banged up all over, but my board, my poor board, bounces off the curb, careens into the road, and falls directly in the path of the buses rear right tire, SHATTERED. and my Kryptonic 70mm's are all over the road, full carnage. I walked home -- only to find out that my younger brother was on that damn bus and couldn't stop those bloodthirsty little rugrats.

I was flying down this hill in the outback doing about 60kph
on the Slater 40 when this pack of roo's bounded out
straight in front of me.
I tried doing a "coleman?" slide but i didn't know what you
were talking about. Anyway I hit the first roo and flew
through the air. I could see my life flashing before my eyes
before I landed in the second kangaroo's pouch, right next
to her joey. I couldn't believe it, how lucky is that?

Well i can no longer bend my left knee because of the scab covering it, and it sux! (I am now going to go cry because i cant go longboard)

The crash was simple. The hill was fairly steep and curved 'round to the left. it was a one lane typical back suburban style road. so ya i was carving around the topand picking up speed pretty quick as i went around the corner and smashed straight into a fucking car parked on the far side of the road. i had to run like hell after my board afterwards cause the owner was up on his porch and i didn't want to know about car damage (ya, so what if im irresponsible) but i really want to learn how to do better carves at higher speed. Any tips? please? any slides? c'mon boys be a pal and help me out! you have no idea how many times i have done this shit cause there is no one around to teach me.
Livin it lumpy in Canada!

We were heading down this screaming 80 mph road. Oops before you think I'm insane let me clarify that I am on a luge not a long board. A half a mile of pure steepness on the Indiana/Kentucky border. My buddy is a lot better luger than I am so he was ahead of me. We go around this left turn at the bottom, no brakes needed even at this speed. He dives low (just to the yellow line, not across it), his head is over the yellow line. The corner is almost blind-at the last second a car coming the other way appears jsut fast enough for my buddy to flinch. He got control of his luge and got it stopped on the roadway. The cars front wheel couldn't have missed his head by more than a foot. As I pulled up to him he was laying on the luge laughing uncontrolably. Then that smell hit me. He crapped his leathers.
Thus ended our day of luging. Luckily we were a mere twenty feet from the Ohio River. He took a bath/swim to clean himself off. To this day I still kid him about it. Rode that hill for years never saw a car, until the most absolute wrong moment for a car to be anywhere on that road. What are the odds?

keith
