Manu,
When you finally read this you will probally be feeling better, but that was the craziest crash that i've seen yet. i wont spoil it by telling everyone, instead everyone will have to check in with longskate.net in about a week and see the video of it.

Well, I crashed.
I was in Laguna Beach riding my cousin's board and the pavement was so smooth it was just smooth. Smooth and a half.
So I was carving/sliding this hill for the first time and I was going pretty slow because it was steep and the pavement was fast. I didn't like going so slow but I had to because I'm not good enough to pull a slide at high speeds to stop when I reach the bottom.
So basicaly the hill changed it's slope and it looked almost flat from where I was. It was like an optical illusion. I came out of my carves and decided to let let it go for the next 200 feet to where the grade changed. I did and by the time I got there I was going faster thant I expected. I didnt' panic. I was about to carve it out when a ca came down the hill behind me(I was on the right shoulder). The car prevented me from carving and I kept going faster. I knew I had to stop soon. I didn't panic. I was hauling a$$. I had to stop because the street was about to end and I didn't care to try merging with a four lane street. Also, it was a gated comunity(i know what you're thinking) and they had those spikes that dont let cars go in the wrong way. I dint' want to see if they let boards go in the right way or not. So I paniced and got into my crouch. I pulled back on my rail harder than I should've and the board popped out from under me. My toe cought funny and I sort of bounced off my knee. I'm not sure what happened next but I rolled a bit and somehow ended up with scrapes between my knukles.
I remember a question posed by herbn a while ago about wheather truck alighnment makes a diference in speed board. All I know is that gravity boards must be aligned acceptionaly well because the next thing I saw was the board moving very fast and very straight towards one of the gatepoasts. I started to limp down the hill yelling and trying to warn a guy in a car that he was about to run over a board. The board missed the car. The board was going very fast and when it's front wheel finally hit the post it ricoceted a good six feet in the air. It then coasted across the four lane street and stopped on someones lawn. When the gaurd at the gate saw the bloody, limping, wheezing figure(me) hoble down the street he just pointed to my board.
I realy twisted my knee too but you probably don't care about that.
Sorry about the novel.

Me and my friends were doing one of the biggest hills in our town. Our friend Kevin (recently just started longboarding) did this one for his first hill. At about 35mph the board slipped out from under him, which sent him sliding into a ditch. His board was ranover by a 18 wheeler, which pretty much made it sawdust. He was allright but his arm had third degree road burns on it. He never longboarded agian, but he had an awsome story the next day at school.

My friends would be better off telling this one since I had a loss of memory of the whole run. Last Thursday my friend and I were practicing for the Tantalus race, each run was getting faster. On the last run my friend was ahead of me but fell and suffered a hand injury. Expecting me to pass he looks behind and I'm taking this turn heelside about 30-35, my board looses grip quick, I whack the back of my head and end up sliding on my back about 15' knocked out.The result? two blood clots and a week at the hospital. It really sucks because I don't know if I can ride again, but I am lucky to be here.Happy Easter everyone. Keep on bombin'

As a boarder and pedestrian in both Chicago and Denver I've seen too many clueless motorists. Some cyclist friends in Chicago used to use their U-locks to give pushy vehicles "reminders", but I've taken a cue from a quiet, unassuming friend of mine who is very much a pedestrian: if a car is in the crosswalk blocking or impeding my going through, after making sure that they know I'm going to use the crosswalk I go in front (always) to reinforce the pedestrian right of way and gently drag my hand across their hood. This does no damage to their car but most people don't want anyone touching their "wheels" so it drives home the message: you're in MY area. Just a thought; hang loose . . . .

I doubt if bashing in a car door will "teach anyone respect". It'll just make 'em hungrier to mess with skaters...or their kids or wives or whatever. As hard as it is not to lash out, it never leads to greater understanding. Think about it, how do you learn best...by getting punished or penalized or by someone taking some time to show you where you were wrong? If someone bashed in my car I wouldn't think, "gee, I guess I wasn't being repectful enough". I'd be PISSED! Like I said, it's tempting to push back...but it ain't the smartest idea, particularly with pickup drivin meat heads in Texas...sounds like they'd just love to see you get hurt.
Matt, I'm in Western Mass. I think we may've been through this already, but email me if you want.

Spacer- Where in Mass do you skate? I live in Mass and would love to hear about some good hills. How about banks or pools? Let me know. I skate in Eastern MA, specifically the "Metro West" areas but I skate in Boston as much as I can.

Ive always taken to punching the side of big trucks around the door areas or where the metal is thin, it leaves a big nasty dent and shows them to have respect.. only in extreme cases though. like when someone decides to come into your lane to hit you.. that works. and it dosnt hurt because the metal is so thin on these new fangald sport utes. hehehe ;) your freind and super hero billy the wonder squirle

I want to know what the deal is with motorists, especially people who drive big pickups and suburbans. They have no respect for skaters. I thought pedestrians had the right of way, but twice in the last week me and my friend have almost been hit - on purpose. First we were bombing this medium hill, and towards the bottom a truck pulls out and starts up the hill. So we get to our side, and this guy pulls on to THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD. We still have about 15 seconds left so were motioning him over. He gives us a look and starts up the hill on the wrong side again. He has plenty of room in his lane, but for some screwed up reason he gets and stays in our way. I bail out, my friend barely makes it through and right away he pulls BACK onto his side and zooms away - (followed by some not-so-nice words). WHAT THE H*LL IS UP WITH THAT?!? Then the next day - were coming up on an intersection - 4way stop- and we beat a car there so we go right through. My buddy is about 20 ft behind me. I make it through, the suburban pulls into the intersection and STOPS! Right in front of my friend! Well, he bails out and again we are extremely pissed. What is the deal with this crap? Is it just TEXAS? We werent in anyones way. Its messed up.
I think Ill take to jumping off the board and picking it up, the running toward the offending car to bust the winshield with my trucks. Maybe that will convey my feelings accurately

HERE IS A TRULY STUPID STORY. I was trying to teach a reluctant friend to skateboard as I was frustrated that he wanted to walk everywhere. So I got out my 54" longboard and started riding him around tandem on the front of the board. Eventually i would get tired of pushing so i had him start pushing. Now he very nearly a skateboarder. Then one day we had to get uptown from 27th st. in Manhattan so I started cruising in the Bus lane as there were fewer vechicles in the bus lane. I was in the front and latched onto a bus. The whole rear end engine cover of the bus hinged upward and we still held on. The bus cover rips off in my hands from the hinges and we toss it to the side and almost wiped out over it. That should have been a warning. But no... we continued to try and hold onto a bus. We latched onto another one at 34th st. and the bus driver slams on his brakes to yell at us. We pull speed off of the bus and latch onto the one ahead of him!!!!. So we think we are cool. Well this new bus starts going pretty fast and we are up to about 25mph when I start to worry. We are skipping bus stops and the "Don't walk" signs are starting to flashing blinking red. So the Bus is trying to catch up to the green lights by flooring it through traffic" He is still skipping stops and at this point we are in 50's on Madison ave going about 35-4mph. At this point I am worried as is the other person riding tandem on this deck. The board has 4 inch ufos which will go over just about anything. I figure... the bus has to stop sooner or later. i just was hoping for a red light at a two way intersection like at 72nd st. where the lights are no longer in synch. The bus is still going faster. I look in the reflection of he store windows as we were rocketing up Madison ave with cars tailgateing behind us. I swear we must have been going near 50mph.The I read the "bus route sign" on the side of the bus in the reflection of the store windows...."Out of service" oooohhh shittt!.... the board is beginning to rumble. That is when i saw the wavy retarred patch in front of us. We couldn't let go lest we totally lose all stability. We hit the wavy patch and lasted about 1/2 a second before the giant hand of god ripped the board out from under us. I lost a patch of skin off my back the size of a pancake, ripped open my knees and my friend, who I watched fly over me like superman, somehow landed on me and only managed to lose a chunk of skin the size of a car lightbulb from his left hand. The board crossed 5 lanes of traffic and somehow managed not to get run over.
You would think we would learn from this...but about a year later I was towing the same friend on my motoboard going about 30mph. when he crossed an intersection and got hit by a cab....hooked onto the bumper and was dragged about 100 feet. Somehow he never forgave me for that one.

Splitter day in Mass. Sunny and warm. I went out searchin for new hills to poach and found a decent one...narrow, with kinda old pavement, lined on both sides with the american dream...the steepest section was at the top where there was enough of a curve to cut visibility. So, I started out, carving deep enough to keep my speed under control before the curve and then as I came around into the straights there was an oncoming car. I ducked down to initiate a slide but had picked up a lot of speed. My randals were really loose for pumping turns in the mellower stretch and I started to wobble. I made it into the slide and slid across the face of the hill into a dirt/grass embankment with some speed. The wheels hit and I shot off into the dirt kicking up a little cloud. A couple minor cuts and scrapes and a sheepish grin and wave for the frightened looking suburbanites passing by. I carved the rest and felt too silly to walk back up and do it again.

A week ago I cruised home at 3:00am. I expected a quiet, unchallenging ride through my town, so I decided to practice some switchstance crusing. I was unconcentrated, and so when my board stuck in a pothole, I flew off and landed on my right forehad, crushing my $200 designer glases and gaining a nice 4-stitch scar on my eyebrow.

Just the other day i was crusin' after school and without thinking I took off down this steep hill. When I was passing cars I knew I was in over my head. Then I got speed wobbles somehow I was able to regain controll and made it safely to the bottom of the hill.
After I reached the bottom I was stoked so walked to the top to do it again. That was my big mistake. The second time down I got speed wobbles again but this time I biffed it big time I got real bad road rash on my leg, arm, him, and the back of my head.
I sould have quit wile I was ahead

Yesterday I went into the local hills and rode my bros dirt board. This was my second time out on this monster wheeled beast.
We started out on the small hills hitting speeds of almost 10 mph. Finally we came upon what appeared to be a long gentle slope, which should have produced 15 mph speeds. Not thinking, and not wearing my pads (my first mistake), I took off down the hill. It turned out to be much steeper than it had first appeared.
Within 10 seconds I was pushing 25 mph and getting some very scarry speed wobbles. When I tried to compensate, the board pitched sideways and I went flying. I was able to get one foot down before I smacked the ground and rolled. I sure wish I had been wearing my pads, because boy is my knee sore.
Thankfully I fell where I did, for I had not surveyed my riding area before I took off (my second mistake). Had I gone another 100 yards, I would have not been able to make the hard 90 degree turn and would have been fighting barbed wire ground covering. If you have ever riden motorcycles in the desert, you know what I am talking about. These are old fences where the posts have dissapeared but the wire remains on the ground.
It took about 10 minutes to walk it off and I am still quite sore to day. Needless to say, my wife, who used to call me mr. safety, just shook her head and walked away when she saw my wounds.
I am using this as a wake-up call to myself. Next time, I will be wearing my safety equipment. HR
