Motoboard wheels
On 1/12/2002 BoBo wrote in from (151.196.nnn.nnn)

All I remember Hugh is that in the late 70's Motoboard put out a skater with a chainsaw engine on it. I got to ride one at Ken Abbotts Sports at that time. It was pretty fast and made a lot of noise [parents love that].

Those are rare wheels indeed. I saw those up on eBay when you won em. They are from Kryptonics molds, that I do know for sure.

They looked soft too.

What do you figger the duro is H?

Motoboard Wheels
On 1/12/2002 hugh r wrote in from (205.216.nnn.nnn)

I just picked up a couple of International Motoboard wheels... one of them has the sproket... the other has the offset to accept the sproket assembly.

Does any one know anything about these wheels and the boards they would have been used on? Thanks, HR

Kryptstik
On 1/12/2002 Herbn wrote in from (152.163.nnn.nnn)

Kryptonic made expensive bumpered foam boards then showing how they wood resort to making wood boards with the fairly exotic v beamed K beams. Then to make an economical board the Kryptik was produced,an affordable ply board $29.95-$32.95 depending on the size,i think?

Krypstick pic
On 1/12/2002 Chris Raezer wrote in from (63.62.nnn.nnn)

Gary Hornby sent me a picture of what I'm pretty sure is the same as my Krypstick-

Mine doesn't have the added on nose gaurd and grab rails, but does have a tail block, which this one looks like it's been drilled for. The bottom of the deck looks like some kind of paper that is glued on. If it is, they did a good job, you have to look close to see it.

Anybody know the history of this model?

Chris

Krypstik
On 1/12/2002 Chris Raezer wrote in from (63.36.nnn.nnn)

I have an old Krypstik that maybe you folks could fill in the history of. It's a wood laminate 30" x 10". The top has two different Kryptonic logos, one on the kick tail and the other behind the front truck and a big black circle K in the center. The bottom has wheel wells and grabrails routered out and Krypstick is spelled out in red in the middle. This board is set up with Hitchcock trucks and red Krypto C-68's. Does this board sound familiar to anybody? Any idea how old it is? I found this twenty years ago in a pawn shop.

Thanks,
Chris

Rolling memories
On 1/11/2002 Herbn wrote in from (152.163.nnn.nnn)

I don't see strokers as being THAT bizarre.I built an upgraded modern version from a closeup internet picture,i made every detail, making sure the project would function as well as possible, making sure they would not deteriorate quickly(worn out and slopy)they're really not all that complex, pivoting springloaded hanger, two axle parts that steer, linked to the baseplate so that when you lien the base it pushes one axle and pulls the other, like a car. The design has more potential than the original ever explored,I should be able to get a speedtruck version going ,something with a low leverage, lots of lien not much steer. This is an area where the stroker design really could stand way over regular trucks,a regular truck can only lien so far, the hanger locks against the sides of the kingpin, and bushings get worked. The balljoints on a stroker have similar if not slightly superior maximum angle of extension to the bushings on a regular truck,so the tightest radius turn is smaller,my strokers do an EASY 6 ft circle,a shallow angle stroker will still turn that sharp as long as the springs that limit the range of the hanger are long enough to let you lien the board far enough, which since i'm designing and building them, they will be.A stable yet loose board, that can be liened into 6 ft circles at parking lot speeds,or U turned in driveways after a slidedown during a 40+ downhill run.No one has yet to post up,"i rode strokers in 76,...... was good.....sucked,they fell apart or broke sometime in 79 and have been in a shoe box in my garage ever since"

Strokers
On 1/11/2002 john oshei wrote in from (64.12.nnn.nnn)

I remember being at the Daly city contest in '77 when Fausto showed up with the first Strokers. They were and are the strangest Skateboard product ever made. Fausto was a cool dude. He had a full hippie head of hair and a fat mustache. He looked like a smuggler. He later sponsored Terry Nails at Signal. You don't hear much about Terry Nails but his skate car fiasco at the last Signal Hill was one of the most unusual events I have ever wittnessed. Terry Nails had more guts then brains and people loved him for it, at least that day. Bring back the SKATECAR!

Strokers
On 1/10/2002 Herbn wrote in from (64.12.nnn.nnn)

I was showing a friend my mint roadrider 4's ,which are bolted onto my vintage strokers now. They are a mixed set, one older with flat plates as link mounts and the other ,newer one has the more common posts. I always figured there was one run of castings and they just changed the welded up axle parts, that were probabely fabricated inhouse(garage). Well i noticed that the bases of the older trucks have"pat pend" punched in the newer ones didn't,then i noticed that the newer hangers have "pat pending" on them in RAISED lettering ,raised is important,it's not punched in,it was added into the mold, that's at least two runs of castings, how many Strokers were made? like with any scarce collectable it would be nice to know exactly how few/ many were made before they gave up.I'm gonna have to mount these up,no one seems to be able to answer why they didn't turn,or is that just heresay, because it was "common" to use just one,at the front of a skatecar.Mechanically the links are positioned for quick steering my reconstructed versions are fairly close on certain vital demensions that set the turning quickness, and they turn quicker than ANYTHING,and pump easy, from a virtual standstill.

Cool, score I traded a set of rather pricey cored Rictas and China bones,so they cost me less than $40,almost went for just wheels, but mom was there.I wasn't really out to cheat'm though lot's of kids leave their old stuff ,after their new stuff is installed, but most of the time it's just worn out new stuff, gotta work on my poker face:)
