Gulls

I can't find any M on them Duane. I can only conclude that they are alum. They were a bit dark but cleaned up like alum does.

They really are sweet though. Gonna put em on a Santa Cruz Dressen with Bones cubics. Should be a blast to ride at Vans [Although it's Quadgals skater].

That girl has the coolest gear!

Gullwing Pros
On 4/10/2002 Duane wrote in from (68.15.nnn.nnn)

Bobo, are those magnesium ? (M on the hanger). If so they will oxidize black, which is why everyone else painted the magnesium versions (Tracker yellow, ACS white). You probably know all this stuff so disregard my rambling if you wish.

Polishing tips
On 4/9/2002 BoBo wrote in from (151.196.nnn.nnn)

Thanks for all the tips fellas.

I have the Dremel in question. Alls I need is the Simichrome.

I'll post the results when I am done. I'm working a pair of late 70's Gullwing Pros. The wide ones. They should look better than when I got em. They were in dire straights oxidation wise but in good shape overall.

Thanks

Yo BoBo Simichrome!!
On 4/9/2002 tom wrote in from (172.157.nnn.nnn)

BoBo
I would suggest Simichrome polish AND the Dremel tool with various felt wheels and cone shaped felt things for getting in the crevices.
Works great on old gulls.
You can get Simichrome at any good hardware store or motorcycle shop. People use it on their vintage harley engines and other stuff. Very good.
Anyone agree?

Aluminum polish
On 4/9/2002 Steve in AZ wrote in from (192.175.nnn.nnn)

Have you tried a high-speed tool (Dremel) with a polishing disk?

It tends to work best in those tight spots, but not so good on the larger areas (like axle hanger triangles).

Aluminum polish
On 4/9/2002 BoBo wrote in from (151.196.nnn.nnn)

Can anyone recommend a GOOD aluminum polish?

I polished up that set of Rebounds a while back, but they weren't that bad, and I basically scrubbed em with a 3M pad. I need something that will polish to a high shine with limited elbow grease. I realize there will be some involved of course. I just want to see a great payoff at the end.

Thanks in advance.

Pacers
On 4/9/2002 PSR wrote in from (216.114.nnn.nnn)

I just read Duane's post, and while I wasn't really thinking of any trade (just noting that I own the wheels I recommend finding), I noticed he [slyly ;) ] noted how hard his are. Mine aren't that hard, although I'm lacking a durometer gauge, the fingernail test says they're high 80's,maybe pushing 90A.They're Sticky,Fast, fairly smooth, and of course just 'look the part' on my Hobie Parkrider. Actually, they were a blast on the Hobieflex, too, able to hold their own on smooth tar with my C-62's. So,Gareth,I don't think I'd be up to a trade, unless you can't find anything else here. :-) Yeah, like THAT's gonna happen on this site...

Turner
On 4/9/2002 Jack wrote in from (216.207.nnn.nnn)

This is a tough one. I have two mint mid-1990's Turner cutaways that Dan Gesmer gave me a couple of months ago.
He did this with the thinking I could auction them off on EBAY and use the dough to help offset the huge medical bills that I have incurred due to my crash back
in October.
I would feel a weird about posting them on ebay at the current time. So I have decided to make them available here. If you're interested drop me an email.

Rad
On 4/8/2002 C-Money wrote in from (207.152.nnn.nnn)

It's kind of whacky-a neighbor kid has one-you can ride on any of the platforms EXCEPT when you ride on the front or the back (relatively speaking)-which also include handles like a scooter, the trucks are set up in tandem, so they turn crazy.

A waste of $!

FibrFlex Stickers
On 4/7/2002 Chuck wrote in from (65.229.nnn.nnn)

Hmmm...I've tried this on other threads, this is probably the best place for it. I am restoring an old FibreFlex cutaway to ride. The rubber grip tape is being replaced (marine supply store), but the sticker has shifted and will need to be replaced. Anyone have, or know of a source, for old FibreFlex stickers that went on the tops of the decks? Anyone reproducing them? Thanks for any help!

Old wheels
On 4/5/2002 Duane wrote in from (68.15.nnn.nnn)

I have Pacers, lime green Comp II's, and 60mm red raised letter kryps that would all be period correct (hard as s#@!, medium, and soft as chewing gum, in that order, 95, 85, 75A). The Pacers were fast on very smooth asphalt, in the day when decent 95A wheels were non-existent. Like all my stuff I would consider offers and trades on all.

Wheels for Gareth
On 4/5/2002 Gareth wrote in from (216.160.nnn.nnn)

PSR and others who have responded-
Thanks for all the great suggestions! Snakes are what I had on a similar board back in the day and they were awesome. They are still some of the best wheels I have ever ridden!

Right now the board has an old, but still in great shape, set of Powerflex 2's on it. I know these are small wheels, but they were used for an old freestyle deck I used to have and they seem to be fine for kicking around the tennis courts. Not too good for street cruising though. (But hey, thats why we have more than one board - right!)

PSR contact me via email if you want to let some of those green Snakes free.

Thanks again to all who responded
G-

Wheels for Gareth
On 4/5/2002 PSR wrote in from (216.114.nnn.nnn)

Gareth,I saw a set of flatbacked Yo-Yo's up on Ebay recently. That would be a great wheel for both authetic style and for blazing banks/pools. Just a Thought;Shaggy had some G+S Wonkers awhile back, the Soft ones. I don't know if he's still got them, but he may know where to nab some. Other wheels of the period that are worth digging for are 1st gen. Bones,Powerflexes,Snakes/Comp II's,UFO's,Panthers, and one of my faves,Pacers. Ps.-I've got Pacers and green Snakes...

Sims / Quicksilver 90kg slalom board
On 4/4/2002 Craig Condon wrote in from (208.255.nnn.nnn)

FYI.
I have a 90kg model Quicksilver that will be going up for sale on eBay very soon! This board has never been used, and has been in storage for over 20 years. There are some surface scratches from being stacked with other boards with grip tape. I bolted trucks to it one time. It has a great camber. In time for summer slalom racing!
