Dude. there is only one way to go, well maybe 1-1/2. Small pivot fulltracks, and RR Hesters, or 4's. Or OJ's. get galvanized 8-32 trusshead screws, and galvanized nylocks. and use flat thin grey tracker riser, or RadPads.

Excuse my ignorance..... can anyone tell me the size and maybe even guess at the durometer of the road riders that I had back in the 70s. 4s were my favorits, but i am curious how they all weighed in....
Thanks

I just got a Tracker sticker with an order from solidskate.com (at least I'm pretty sure it was them...I ordered Tracker trucks through them). While you can't have mine, I'm sure they can help you out by either selling you one or sending one along with a truck order. Give 'em a try.
I have looked for old (or replica old) FibreFlex stickers, to no avail. I have heard of plenty of other people looking for them as well. If someone were to do a run of reproductions, I'm sure there would be a market for them.

Speaking of 76 bowlriders, I'm looking for some stickers to put on mine. I need one Tracker (the yellow and black one) , one yo-yo's and a G&S, the gold triangle or anything else G&S from '76. Good copy's would be fine. I'm also looking for a Powerpivot skid plate, the white nylon ones , the first model for the prepig decks. A used one would be okay ,but not to used. Paul d

Hey Craig, I'm glad you revived your old Fibreflex. I've ridden mine, on and off, since 1976, with G&S YoYos, and in my opinion, it's one of the best decks ever made. I'm about to re-activate my ultimate treasure, a 1976 Fibreflex Henry Hester Model. I used it in the 1978 German National Championships and placed 4th--my claim to fame. It's in near-original condition, after spending too many years on the wall; any suggestions as to what trucks/wheels would be a good choice here?

As I recall, Lonnie Toft used custom cut Trackers (Halftrack width on the inside, Midtrack width on the outside) on some of his 8s. Also, in those days wheels weren't center set, and were wider, so narrow trucks (2.5-3" hangers) were a must. Using standard center-set newschool wheels, Midtracks should work fine, and depending on the wheels, Fulltracks or 101's might even work as well...

You could email Tom and he would probably help you with your setup. He also has the Yocaher connection and would probably sell you some trucks real cheap. Tsjjjfain@aol.com Tom used to ride for Sims in the 70's and Lonnie Toft taught him how to ride the 8. Tom then took them to the air. He also set up a board using ACS480's I think. Drilling everything parallel is the big trick. You miss it a bit and the board won't track straight.

So, Hugh, will mids work, especially with center-set wheels? I think midtracks are 86mm which is about 3.39", right? (8.6/2.54) Sorry, my math is pretty bad for this website. Or do mids have a 3" hanger?
It looks like the trucks on Tom Fain's ride, below have at least a 3" hanger and that's the smallest hanger that Yocaher sells. Are half tracks really 2" or are they 2.5 or something?

I'd say that half-tracks are the way to go... the cut down randals are way too squirly!
I am cutting down some indy 101's for Joe/Nick (hopefully sometime this weekend) and I'll be sure to post up pics and stuff... they're for his new Veteran... HR

I loved that picture (and the others) on their website!
I'll try those yocahers. I sent them an e-mail. They said they were 3" trucks, I assume they meant 3" hangar. I thought half tracks were 2" mids were 3" and fulls were 4" hangar? If that's the case, I'm just gonna go with mids, cause I'm using center-set wheels, (Surf One Mavericks-65MM, 80a, look pretty good and I picked them based on HughR's website and choice).
What do ya think? Thanks for posting back, Glen

Yeah, I am really jonesin for some half-tracks, but they're getting pretty hard to find. Here's the info on these 8-wheelers. Hugh R is into these. I always wanted a Sims Lonnie Toft Model 8-wheeler as a kid, but just never had the cash at the right time. Dang, wish I had one now.
Nevertheless, these look really cool and talk about vintage (even though these are new editions)!

Need some advice and possibly make a purchase. I'm picking up one of the veteran's skates 8 wheelers and am planning on putting midtracks on it. I think I might want to go with a somewhat narrower truck, like ACS 430s or some skinny Bennetts (need help here) or skinny lazers (again, help). I want something real oldschool. Thoughts, recommendtaions, anybody got 2 sets to sell (need 4 matching trucks)?
Thanks,

1976 Fibreflex 27 inch kicktail

y parents, after clearing junk out of their basement, sent me my old blue Gordon and Smith kicktail with Bennett half tracks and Road Rider 4s. I was quite eager to take it to the asphalt, recalling what a delight this thing was to me in my teen years. Anyway, the ride turned out to be a major disappointment, slow and rumbly, stopped by the smallest pebbles. I had been spoiled by the magic carpet ride of my current board, a Fibreflex 44 inch kicktail, with Randall 180s and GS 73mm 78a wheels, and the vintage board's ride paled in comparison.
After neglecting the 27 inch for a few weeks I decided to try it with the GS wheels from my long board. I took the 27 inch to the asphalt again and... What a blast! It's like riding the back of a snake jacked up on amphetamines. I mean this thing wriggles and writhes under foot, and it is easier than my longboard to pump forward. Pure delight!
I've fallen in love with the old fibreflex, again.

These have loose ball bearing cups, probably from 1973-76, somewhere in there. Made originally for roller skates but widely used on early 70's skateboards. Roller Sports actually made whole boards if I recall correctly, not the best and not the worst. Here's and Ed E. auction for some new ones, no bids at $25, they were common so no great value there

If objections persist, I have a set of NOS support plates with the dull finish, complete with the scuffs that all of them had, gladly swapped out for the "purty" ones if you wish.

Yessiree, that's my auction up there.
Duane is as usual, very astute. I polished em up with Mothers alum mag cleaner to get the oxidation off em. But they are NOS all the way. I used the polish on the support brackets and they came out a little brighter than I wanted. There have been a few questions concerning them. I don't want to mislead some and have answered honestly as to why they shine so much. My bad.
But you must admit. They sure are purty.

Silver split axles...

On 5/13/2002
Duane
wrote in from

are legit. They were as common, if not more common, than the gold ones. They were all the "later" models with the support plates and the longer axle stubs. All of the split axles have some "nicks", the molds must have gotten banged up (they were not sand cast like most trucks). Also, since that's Bobo's auction, you can ask him directly. It looks to me like he polished some oxidation off, they have too much shine, the support plates were just dull, stamped metal and don't shine like that NOS.
