Gotta defer to the master here...
get with Eddie Economy about this. The last one I saw was light-blue in color, and sold on Ebay for a very NICE amount.
Congrats to your friend on his find.

Can someone help me find some information about this rare and crazy looking board. I have seen a lot of old boards but have never seen anything close to this one. I am doing some research for a friend who got this at a garage sale. The previous owner had no knowledge of its history or how it even ended up in his possession. Check out the spring tension return to center trucks!
On the bottom it has the following information: Humco Toys Patented or Pat. Pend. Humphrey MFR. CO. 4678 Alvarado Canyon Rd. San Diego Co, Calif.
You can’t see in these pictures, but someone has spent some serious time on this board as the rear wheels (metal) are coned! I can just picture some kid with a huge smile on his/her face thinking life couldn’t get any better than this - while cruising down the boardwalk or on their way to school! Any information or possible leads on where to look for information would be appreciated. I can e-mail bigger and much clearer pictures if needed.
See You at the Races! (but not on this board!) Gareth

Dominik, even for just cruising around, you'd probably be happier with some newer wheels. The Road Riders were great wheels in their time, but today they will be unbearably slow. Besides, for what you'll heve to pay for them, you'd hate to wear 'em down. Get a set if it floats yer boat, but save 'em for if and when you retire the board to display status. My $.02 worth...

it's not expensive because it's better,it's just rare, and collectable for reasons this crazy world can't really explain. The old boards are the same memorabilia ,reminders remainders of youth or "better times" why spoil that with the reality of actually riding it,new stuff is better.

Dominik, I have a New Old Stock set of Tracker Mids you might be interested in. I was holding on to them as trading stock for a set of NOS Gullwing Splits. Not the the Splits are on the way, I can move the Mids out. They would make a great addition to a wall hanger should you properly retire the Hester Fibreflex.

By the way, all that talk about my "Wallhanger" reminds me of my dad; he's got this really old bottle of wine which is worth well over $1000 by now, and I've been trying to convince him for the longest time that he should not admire it, but drink it. It's wine, and it was made for drinking.
Even though I will always handle my HH FibreFlex with the utmost care, it was meant to be skated--at least every now and then.

My Hester G&S

Guys, I need to clarify: I am going to set up the HH deck to soulcarve through Santa Monica, along the ocean, because it has been hanging on the wall for too long. I also plan to get back into slalom racing, but for that I will get me something new, high-tech, fast. Thus, I'll get the RR HH for my 70s deck, because it looks good, and because it's the right thing to do.
Now, as far as Tracker trucks go, who can educate me about half-, mid- and fulltracks? Don't Mids have a 3 1/2" hanger, and Fulltrackers a 4 1/2" hanger? Seems like the Mids would be appropriate in my case, no? And what about ACS trucks? I think I had a set of ACS 540s on it a long time ago.
Thanks for all your input.

Wall Hanger: RR Hesters, Fulltracks.
Rider: Abec 11 Stingers, Tracker RTXs (or RTX front, offset Indy or RTX rear...if you can find one). Then upgrade the deck to a Roe Hester, retire the FibreFlex to wall hanger status, see above.

Dominik... I just went back and looked at your original inquiry and it seems that you are setting this Hester up to race. Am I reading that correctly? If so, RR Hesters are NOT a wheel you want to use in today's competitive scene. As cool as they would be on a Hester that was hanging on a wall, I think you'd rapidly find they are no longer an effective racing wheel. If I'm correct in reading that you are setting this board up to race, my I suggest that you go ask about state-of-the-art slalom wheels on either the Wheels or Slalom pages. Just a thought...

Tracker Truck info needed!

You all convinced me, nothing but HH Road Riders will go under my G&S HH FibreFlex. Now as far as the trucks go, what are the dimensions (hanger width) on the 70s Trackers? Half-, mid-, fulltracks? I don't remember. Someone out there with info and advice? What about ACS trucks?
PS: Who is knowledgeable in the wizardry of fiberglass reconditioning, i.e., getting a nicked board back to its original condition?

Looking for a good used 70s Fibreflex, would prefer 26" or longer in any colour but yellow. Trying to put together an old school set up to use here in the UK this summer. $100 plus seems to be the going rate on Ebay, which I am happy to pay plus shipping to UK. Please email if you can help. laurie18

Power Pivots

I used to custom-make Power Pivots from white nylon cutting boards. All you need is a vise, a drill and a (power) saw. That way, you can choose from a variety of colors and hardnesses--go to your local cooking supply store (for this purpose only, I recommend K-Mart over Williams-Sonoma). It still works well on my G&S Bowlrider--better than the original PowerPivot I used to have on it!

Thanks to all for the wise suggestions on what to put under my G&S Henry Hester.
There is a source for FibreFlex stickers! Rip City in Santa Monica, (310) 828-0388. I just picked up a couple today, and there were still some left. Go, get 'em!
Greetings to Skateboardmom--there's nothing like us old schoolers, once we catch up on those ollies. I still think those pokerchip wheels are ridiculous, though.

Barb, You can do an ollie w/ any board but the smaller the set-up (ie. new school) the easier. That G&S bowl rider (+/- 30"-36") would do well. But learn them on something else, just to save on the ware'n tear. It's a great trick, it's to bad so many old schoolers think it's s#@! or not worth the effort to learn. I got instant respect when I ollied to grind on the metal curb at our mini park on my Skullskts 46" Big gun. I was't looking for the respect of a bunch of 14 yr olds. But it openned up the lines of communications. Good luck Paul D

Skateboard Mom - G&S will have 30" Teamriders and some bigger Teamriders real soon. They are beautiful. As for skateparks, Robb Field in Pacific Beach is nice with lots of bowls, or Coronado for the more advanced.

Sacrilege Report : Skated Malcolm X Bowl Sunday & Monday on a 1980 Cabellaro stick that my friend got out of a closet at an estate sale. I didn't realize what it was until we got to the bowl. When I told him it was probably worth an easy four figures, he shrugged, dropped in and ripped it up. We passed it back and forth and pretty much destroyed it. And I should know better, as I sell Rare Vintage Posters, but damn it felt good. It just makes those that still exist worth EVEN MORE!!

Fibreflex reissues?

Sorry to deluge the board here, but...
I tried to search archives (wasn't there a search key last time I visited??) but am giving up and just asking:
what's the story on the Fibreflex reissues? Are they only going to be slalom/GS models? I was hoping for (slightly longer) Bowlrider/Teamrider models. I just want a great board for my petite-sized self (I'm 5-1) for skatepark bowls/empty resevoirs/etc. I have my vintage Hobie Skatepark Rider, but it's too dang short (26"). I've tried my Sector 9 "Seuss" model, which I love but it's a wee bit long for bowls (it's 38" I think). I guess I'm looking for something in between these two... Also, can anyone in the San Diego area recommend a skatepark for me? I'll be there tomorrow (with my decidedly anti-skateboarding 5-year-old) and thought perhaps I might try out a park before the school kids get there. I'd like a nice mellow bowl, if you please :-) thanks!

"new days" boards for old days riders

(68.5.nnn.nnn)
hi guys (and hopefully some gals)
i dropped in many months ago and am now back to seek some expert advice. for Mother's Day, I bought myself a "modern" board--a Flip something or other--mostly because I'm tired of hearing all the neighborhood kiddies ask: "Hey, can you Ollie?" (They usually ask this after watching me do various 70s-style freestyle tricks because, apparently, the Ollie is the measurement of proficiency these days.) Anyway, it got to the point where I decided I'm just going to learn how. So, I wandered into my neighborhood skateshop, Laguna Surf & Sport, and nabbed the only board I could find that didn't have some nightmarish graphics on it, then went home and got to work. It suddenly occured to me, thirty minutes into my "Ollie training," that maybe instead of rushing into that skateboard purchase, I should have done some homework. Like maybe there's a board that is "Ollie capable" that can still be used for FUN riding (carving, etc.). Anyone have any ideas? Thanks! p.s. I had to cut my Internet time in half six months ago, which is why I'm not around much. Barb Odanaka (skateboardmom.com)

I'll be in SF for a week starting Thursday (5-23) if any of you NorCal skaters/collectors are up for some horse trading. Check out www.kickturn.com for items of interest.

I'm looking for RR4s for my very nice singleply yellow and black Hester. I also need fulltracks. I had mids and Sims pure juices on it, but they look way better on the 28" bowlrider. Heck, maybe I should sell the whole lot and buy a new lawnmower, since I only ride my Roe anymore...

While I admire the other gear. And use them religeously!! It would be a sin to put anything other than Geezerx's suggestion on board!!! I've got a half dozen rides that only sport the era proper/performance proven SHTUFF.. Get you some Stingers /La Costas/RTX's etcc.. To put on your new Roe /Turner or Comet!! But let the G&S live in piece!!!
All the newer gear is "OUTRAGEOUS" but you got a great deck that needs some T.L.C and respect! Ride it for a bit and then get some of this new stuff that is a mile ahead! Dave G
