Wheel shine

Actually, the fact that urethane is petroleum based is just the reason NOT to use an oil-base product on them (likes dissolve likes). Urethane's resistance to some oils is not bad, to others not so good. Much safer to use a water-based lubricant such as KY jelly or other such condom lubricants (also the best truck squeek stopper). Besides you may find an oil or wax difficult to remove if you don't like it, or decide suddenly that you need to ride the wheels. With the KY it would simply wash off. Another thing, don't ever use hot water on urethane, or let urethane soak in water, it will destroy the wheel if hot enough.

I finally scored a set of Road Rider Henry Hesters on a complete from e-bay (Bennett Pros and a G&S Henry Hester Fibreflex slalom). This is definitely a wall hanging after I clean it up a little. Here's my question:
The wheels are used, but in pretty good shape. I want to clean them, then make them as "shiny" as possible. Remember how they used to feel like they were covered in vaseline or something when you first got them? I figure it would be OK, since Urethane is a petroleum based product, but I didn't want to coat them with anything that might melt, discolor, or otherwise damage them. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Carl Kincaid Knucklehead Racing Team

I'm not sure if this is pre-1980. Today I was at the OAKLAND MUSEUM OF CALIFORNIA and they had this board on display. I thought it was cool that a skateboard was in the museum.

Leo.You likely have SuperCush bushings in those older Indys. They color-coded the durometers; Black was 99A,Purple 97A,Green 94A,Orange 90A,Red 87A(?). I always ran 94A or 97A on the rear truck of my bigger mid 80's boards, and used the softer 90A bushings up front. On Luges or Downhill boards, the Purples were a favorite way to get stability and few wobbles, but still have some turning left in reserve. Keep 'em,use them, they're good stuff.

Yep Steveo, lookin for all the traction I can stand. These TTC's got it.
The proved themselves at last nights DC Outlaw race. What's really cool is that as you go down the course, the TTC gives off a prism type effect with the light and it looks like you have a blinking bulb in the back as you wiggle down the course. Very cool effect.
I couldn't get em to slip and could have gone with an 84a Stinger on the back instead of the standard 81a I use.
And they do look good on my older rigs.

Geez that's a nice complete waiting to be completed.
Keep an eye on eBay Scabs. I see Sims Germans up now and again. If I see a set I'll send you the link. I gotta help get this thing put together.
Sorry for blasting you 805 Eagle. Feel free to post a pic of your Turner. We all want to see it.

Duane, As soon as someone ponies up a set of NOS original Kryptonics or Sims Racing bearings, I will....put it together that is. Never goona see the floor. Once I get it built, I`m gonna make a display case out of hexagon fish tank with revolving motor underneath. Kinda like a virtual diorama (sp?).

To qualify that let me say this.
If you are gonna share something, share it. An experience or some memory. Not some rattled off gear inventory and an exclamation.
I love gear stories and have contributed my share. More content and less wish lists. Wanna shut me up? Post a pic.

Chuck, thanks for your input on the antiquity of those wheels; after all, I may become just like my dad with his wine bottle--saw Road Riders for $120, but have my eye on the new stuff (Turner, Seismic etc.) as well.
Anyone broke and desperate out there with a set of Road Riders to sell? *lol*

I believe the one on eBay sold for $160, the label was more faded but the one you have is more curb-thrashed. You should be able to search humko here and find the old references.
