TK, I remember that stick. I saw it in Tway's office at last years farm race. What a piece of art. As I recall it was cracked or something and he was planning of getting it fixed.

Juan, do I know you? I no longer have the Ick. Bill Tway has it now and he will likely hoard it away in his office like he does all the other cool decks. "ride em don't hide em" TK

ICK STIX

Here is one to research. Who rode ICK STIX in the colorado circuit of 78 and placed in 3 positions in the top 8.(slalom of course). These would qualify for this pre '80 equip. race i've been reading about. Jack Smith would remember.

A classic summer ski tricked out w/ fuls and c62 blues/pinks is gonna be hard to beat at the farm. I will do my best on my Hester Fibreflex set up w. RR 2's on mids. This is gonna be a fun event! It will even more fun if I beat Tucker.

Variflex Bill Hanes Slalom Special
On 8/10/2002 Wesley Tucker wrote in from (152.163.nnn.nnn)

Speaking of old SKATEBOARDERS,

While scanning around yesterday looking for the Krypto ads from a bygone era, I came across something I had forgotten completely. There in a 1980 issue was a Variflex ad and all their available models. Included was the "Bill Hanes Slalom Model." The picture shows that it's obviously a Turner knock off. I never knew anyone who bought one or have ever seen one up close.

Anyone else ever owned or ridden this board? And who was Bill Hanes? If I remember correctly he made a splash at the Am level for a while. Of course, I'm assuming these boards are Summer Ski clones. Knowing, though, what I know now about Turner and Sims, I guess the next question is if Bobby made these boards under license for Variflex?

TP Projects
On 8/9/2002 PSR wrote in from (216.114.nnn.nnn)

In the early-mid 80's,these were my 'secret weapon' wheels.I'd buy 8-packs from S.O.H. Skates, and run 'em on my slalom and downhill boards. They were a bit skittish for slalom, but made up for it speed.Kinda like a skinny version of a Strada.I've got two sets of four left,Reds in what was 68mm,now 61-ish(ovalized,but not coned?)and 72mm Blues, which were one of the fastest wheels I had until I got some Dirt Clods and Super Mundos. Both of those wheels has similar dimensions and cores to the Mundo. Figures that a Rollerskater would make the fastest Skateboard wheels during the 80's,but hey,the Speed Limit was 55 mph then, too!

On 8/9/2002 Mark Mccree wrote in from (209.26.nnn.nnn)

regarding "Tom peterson" written on wheels. Understand that Tommy Peterson took over at kryptonics for Jim Ford. Tommy was a national roller skate speed champion. He had wheels tagged TP PROJECT II. Anything that remotely referenced his name in the Kryptonics program was directed at the roller skate buisness. He then left Kryptonics and started HYPER.

Wes T.'s stuff
On 8/9/2002 PSR wrote in from (216.114.nnn.nnn)

Sorry,Wes,I assumed all your stuff was within the prerequisite vintage-My bad. You're right about the CX-64+66 being double conical.Sticky, but slide out when pushed. The same is true about my Variflex "X" conicals.Too bad, because the large core with 93A 'thane would be sweet up front. So,,I'm scrounging for those Green C-65's and Red C-70's.I found and rode the RR 6's,and I think the Kryptonics will be faster, the Road Riders stickier. I also dug out an old HeavyStick Road Rail, which looks like it's Red Oak and glassed top/bottom.It's got a sweet shape, but I'm not heavy enough to flex it any. Does anyone ever recall seeing one of these? I'm making a guess that it's of '76-'77 vintage, definately no later than '78.

C-62s
On 8/9/2002 Scabs wrote in from (66.21.nnn.nnn)

Can anyone tell me when the C-62s with the embossed "Yom Peterson" were made? There was a dude at King of Kona with those and the original (no marking) C-62s in orange and white.

TK,
I am ashamed to say I`ll be missing at "da Farm". I really hate missing it. Looks like the next race I`ll be seen at will be at Dave G`s race and maybe if GBJ does the Finale. New buisness is slower off the ground than I expected.

C-62s
On 8/9/2002 Wesley Tucker wrote in from (152.163.nnn.nnn)

Oh, one other thing. I went to my SKATEBOARDERS and looked at the Kryptonic ads. They were selling the C-62 Slalom wheels as early as November 1978. So the wheels definetely meet 'da Farm judges criteria for vintage.

Furthermore, I can't find the wheel for sale anywhere in any of the 1980 editions right up to July (the LAST SKATEBOARDER before ACTION NOW.) So if you have a C-62 Slalom Special, I think it's gotta be pre-1980.

Kryps and Park Riders
On 8/9/2002 Wesley Tucker wrote in from (152.163.nnn.nnn)

Well, since I was asked: I don't have ANY C-62s. Sorry, guys. Mine are all C-65s (FIVE.) They date from August, 1978 (when I got my first Turner,) to November, 1984 (first Ick.) I have four complete sets. Which is the oldest? Easy: the darkest. There is a subtle color change in the four sets between the two I bought in the '70s and the two I bought a couple of years later. T

Also, these are "C" Kryps and not the "CX" types around at the same time. i think the CX had the conical inside for improved park and coping riding. Mine are all of the "core" series that had the black plastic cores. (Maybe the first core wheel on the market?) I know I never used spacers with these wheels. Just popped in the bearing and had a perfect seat.

My Park Riders are also a little different. The first set I got was the true Magenta wheel that came out in '76. I had these on my Hester FF. My second set of Logan 5s were almost the same color as the Road Rider and clear as opposed to the opaque original PRs.

If anyone cares to argue, come on to my house. I'm looking at all this stuff as I type.

Not quite all his boards....

Hey, the good news is my h-bomb came just in time in August, '79. At least Tway will have something to ride he can handle!

Let's see . . . the hard orange Cutaway, Park Riders and either Mids or Hafs dependings on whether you guys use the whole hill or just the first 200 feet. Whoa, Huzza! (All my Icks and the black Full nose were early-to-mid '80s. Too late.)

Older wheels @ Da Farm
On 8/9/2002 PSR wrote in from (216.114.nnn.nnn)

Of course,as the C-62 ruling was posted,Wes T. had to have been grinning. He's gotta know that All of his boards met the pre-80 criteria, and probably no one else would catch those Park Rider 4.5's! At Boston,I had Stingers on the Bahne-Now I have to dig out those RR6's from whatever box they're in.

C-62's
On 8/8/2002 Mark Mccree wrote in from (209.26.nnn.nnn)

To: Da Farm Judge, To answer your question, Hutson won the majority of the races. He was on "indy" style suspension trucks (henry has some on his web site). Bob was on the team and --(I won't go into it). Oct 78 skateboarder mag has a good write up on the whole deal. There were 7 or 8 races (I sponsered them and I can't remember). And like I said before , Kryptonics came in and swept the events with their products. A comment about clear-lathed wheels was correct. At the first races, Jim was handing out lathed versions of the c-62. They WERE green. Ask people if they remember Arlen Moore of the famous "MOORE BOARDS". He made them up to 6' long.

They're all beautiful forms, but pre 80's are like comparing a 63 split window vette to a 69 stingray!

c-62s
On 8/8/2002 scabs wrote in from (66.21.nnn.nnn)

...and since the Turners were made well pasr 1980, and there is no way of knowing whether if a particular board was made before or after that date, sgould theu then be banned?

`Da Farm Judge, meet Mr Common Sense...

I vote to allow the c-62`s. Sure they may have been produced into the 80`s, but it`s still a classic wheel. Couldn`t hold a cangle to the new slalom wheels from ABEC 11 or Turner.

Oh, and I have a matched set of pink and blues NOS for sale...

Kryptonic Slaloms
On 8/8/2002 Dave G wrote in from (208.29.nnn.nnn)

I have the "white" and the Dark "Green"(not the normal green) Of Krypto Slaloms! They were made in 1978 and resemble a C-62 ,but the lip is much more aggressive. Jack Smith and i have spoken about the "see thru" greens that I got off B.Piercy , Now those were Da' BomB!!!!!!!!!!!
