That episode was actually filmed at Skatercross in Reseda (where I used to work in High School)
"Cousin Oliver" is the skateboarding guest star.

I just saw a classic CHiPs episode called Neighborhood Watch (episode 5 of Season 2) that originally aired Oct-14-1978. It shows Ponch and Jon riding in a skateboard park and includes several minutes of footage. CHiPs is in re-runs on TNT. Try to catch this episode for a serious 70's flashback!

Tracker made those,i saw a couple.They seemed typical in strength for early ply boards,not strong,not fall aparts.Exeptionally strong/tough early laminates were Casters,i have a Strople Wedge 30x7.75 w/glass,the Dogtown maple boards were good also,I have a shortened 28.5x 8.0 Dogtown Paul Constantineau that is really beat,it was recut for a second run,for a tight rough ditch i skated in the early eighties,it had about 4 ft flat between banks that were only about three ft high,it ran downhill with a steep part in the middle,kind of harsh,Sims Snake conicals here.A friend of mine slammed so hard at this ditch he got a ruptured blood vessel on his eye.

You bring up a good point: While some people are paying big bucks for vintage & Old School boards because they are true "collectors" (i.e. the boards end up hanging on a wall, sitting in a basement collection, or being sold for *more* money on eBay 2 months later), I think you are right on when you hypothesize that most 'skate geezers' are buying these boards 'cuz they used to own one themselves in a previous lifetime!
Speaking of which, one board you left of the list (and one which I've been looking for for the exact same reason) is a Rockit. You remember, the ones with reverse camber? Great for carving, street riding as well as vert...but unfortunately not very strong so I doubt many survived past 1980. You don't see Rockit's at all anymore: not on eBay, not on *any* of the skate collectors' websites, nowhere. They are mentioned *very* briefly in "Concrete Wave" and listed on M.Brooke's Skate Geezer site, but that's it. It's as if nobody even owned them and has forgotten they even existed. Weren't they an offshoot brand made by Santa Cruz or Sims? Can't remember.
Boy, would I love to find one of those! Maybe not the most "collectible" or valuable, but I'd sure dig one.

I consider old skateboards collectable when they were not all to common even "back in the day" when they were exeptional "cool" skateboards,i would consider a Teak logon to be slightly valuable.(i know i'm way off)Here's a little list;Bobby Piercy,and Torger's ply decks from Logon, for obvious reasons.Hester's Slalom board,kind of rare and in demand probabely,how about Greg Tiae's pro slalom ,also on G+S.He must have been displaced or replaced by Hester,or did he just quit before Hester came along,i think i recall ads with both of them.Speaking of Fiberflexes,originals (70s not 60s),kicktails,there were some competitors.The flexier even lighter Santacruz,then the even lighter Tunnel ply with glass. Sims Taperkicks,Greg Ayres wedgetail superlight,Phase 3 experimentals,Toft Eightwheelers i made one once,i didn't get it.Other ornamentally/functional woodworkers boards,Maherajah's,42 inch rocker models,there were a number of Greg Weaver boards that should be worth bucks.Skitch Hitchcock Foam Glass boards,the early rockered freestyle boards could have been the first foam boards,they were tough too,i knew some freestylers that swore by them.Turners (of course),Quicksilvers, Quicktails,Caster boards good,better with the internal glass,the real thin/wide Strople model would be my fav. Shogo's decks were cool,but i think Wes' bigfoot model was probabely rarer,the other Dogtowns are pretty rare,but there were different versions,the first ones,10ply birch softer and more destoyable than 7ply,i had a 10ply Muir,Six ply +glass was an option and the way to go for me, all three original models came in that construction,glass bottom Biniaks for instance were 8ply birch+glass,but i think thats the only way they came,a seven ply without glass would be really rare,Shogo's own prototypes were not airbeams .Alva boards not rare,Alva boards with glass, yes! Santa Cruz carbon loaded slalom boards.Z-,,Sure the Adams was notorious,an original Z (not an adams) would be rare,i had a rocker kick that i remember being pretty steep,How about the original concave,that was soft mushy wood,probabely none of those left.Some smaller companies used to offer standard models like 25,27,30 inch then you could special order,add two dollars an inch for longer boards.How many people do you think took them up on that offer?,i have filled in, unsent mailorder forms,damn!How few of those boards were ridden reservoir only,with tail blocks,and are still in good shape?How much do you think a Santa Barbara 43inch mahagony and glass board might be worth!I seem to recall ads where Sims did this,they were small too,at some point.I think just with oak,actually taperkicks too! those were skinny shapes though.Alot of old boards are bought because"i used to have one of those"not necessarily because it's rare.My 4 cents.

They're still cool boards! Worth holding on to and protecting from those who would abuse it. Might not be worth much to guys who've only been skating 10 or 15 years. But to some of us old timers... it still means something... HR

Thanks for the help guys (I think). You're right in saying it's just a board and his kids would be better off on a new board (no question there).But, it was a cool board back then when we didn't know the difference and it's still a cool board to have today. If it weren't, we wouldn't be on this link looking at this old stuff.

But they're such awful boards,clear as day i remember them being way to stiff,with the tail being to mellow,and rounded to much.Bennetts, oh god!hard look's broke them,Roadrider's dead urithane.Why subject your kids to that kind of limitations,when you can sell it to an old sucker looking to buy back a piece of their youth,and buy the kids good boards for years to come,rather than a old clunker that will break a irriplacable baseplate on the first day.Off to the museum:)do i hold a grudge or what?he he:)

My friend has a solid wood (oak I think) Logan eathski with bennetts and road riders which he doesn't want to sell.That's okay, the problem is he's given it to his kids to kick around on.They haven't used it yet.Could someone tell me what it's worth. If he knew it was worth something he might not let the boys use it. I'm not to good at pricing the old stuff yet so I could't give him an accurate price. It's in pretty good shape. Thanks, if someone can help rescue this board.

Gary,
I didn`t mean this as a cut on you but since you asked about value depreciation, I take it you may sell them in the future. And I myself would rather have a used classic in my collection rather than a refurbed one.
As with other collectables, I don`t condone refurbishing them. Even if it`s just for your own personal collection. You may kick the bucket (as we all will some day) and someone might turn your art out onto the unsuspecting public.

A friend of mine who used to ride for Sims told me that the logos that are on the Taperkicks were stenciled on. Not a silk screen, but spray painted on.
If you're trying to make it look NOS, that's the technique to make it real.
Just be cool, if you sell it, and let the buyer know it's been refurbed.

I just refinished my Sims Superlight 10.00 and 27" long Taperkick. I had to take the logo off but before I did I traced them and then made a copy on the computer and printed them out as clear backed stickers . Re finishing over the top of them.
Any ideas on how much I have devalued the boards by doing this. The logo's are exactly the same size and color as before.

Lansing,try looking in rollerskate rinks for the replacement pivots for SGI rollerskate trucks.They're soft,but will fit many 70's vintage trucks.One other truck that was made up until the mid-'80's that had a narrow pivot(and that you find parts for)was Rannalli trucks.

It wouldn't be to hard for anyone that had a lathe,to make some pivots out of uHmw or delrin,they could be drilled with a round nose endmill and cut to the proper diameter. they'd be harder,and might ride a little harsher. Hey,check out Titan trucks,they have thin weak pivots,lots of broken Titans floating around,ask your local shop to save you some parts ,the next time a kid upgrades to a real truck,shouldn't take long.

I'm hoping that maybe somebody can can help me or give me a tip on where to look.
I have a pair of Bennett Pro trucks which I'm dying to ride (yes, most people buy 'em these days to mount on
their wall, but I actually want to *ride* them! Blasphemy these days...).
Problem is, I'm missing one of the pivot bushings (the small rubber "cap" that fits in the hole on the
baseplate for the tip of the hanger).
I have looked EVERYWHERE. I've searched & called every skateshop in the area. I've searched the
internet. I've looked on eBay. I've even contacted several Old School & vintage skateboard collectors & shops on
the web (including oldschoolskateboards.net, oldschoolskates.com, and The Skate Shop UK).
Apparantly just about ALL trucks from the last 18-20 years take standard "Indy" size pivot bushings
(they're bigger than the ones the ACS or Bennetts used). Nobody makes the smaller pivot bushings
anymore; at least that's what I gather.
Now that a pair of good condition Bennett Pro's go for anywhere between $80 and $250 (!) on eBay, I can't afford
to buy another pair just 'cuz I'm missing one bushing! That would be a waste, especially considering that my trucks are in excellent riding condition (except the
missing bushing cap, of course).
Some guy was selling some Bennetts without pivot bushings on eBay a while back. I contacted him, and he said "Oh, you can find those things at any hardware store." Well, he's full of crap 'cuz I've checked at hardware stores and they don't know what I'm talking about.
To make matters worse, I had a set of broken ACS 500's in my folk's garage that I was going to take the bushing from, but I just found out that my parents *threw* them away a couple of years ago (along with a set of very good condition Road Rider 4's)!!
