Cool Bahne story
On 5/16/2001 BoBo wrote in from (64.223.nnn.nnn)

When I was 15 years old the year was 1979. My brother Scott, Rick. My buddies Brian, Darren, Al, Bubba and me had a ceremony at the back of my house between the house and the garage that we called: "The burning of the boards". We all got new skaters that summer and burned some older [I mean older] boards we had come by. And newer boards we had thrashed beyond hope. We burned em right there with lighter fluid and watched em go till they were embers.

The boards we burned?

If memory serves there were.

1 Bahne 28 in kicktail model

1 G&S kicktail [stunk bad]

1 Santa Cruz 31 incher

1 home made jobber of wood we stole from school.

1 Black Knight that was my first skateboard [had clay wheels].

For what it's worth, My brothers and I reminisce often abou t it and my renewed interest has caused us to talk about cool stuff and bond together. All around goodness.

Bahne
On 5/15/2001 GBJ wrote in from (24.18.nnn.nnn)

I think you're right on, Arab, by dating that Bahne in early-1976. As for truck and wheel combinations, Hugh, your first choice should be, Bahne trucks with blue/green Cadillac DK-51 wheels. Since that might be hard to come by, I'd go with Tracker Fulltracks and the Road Riders. The Midtrack came a bit later, after the Halftrack.

bahne
On 5/14/2001 hugh r wrote in from (205.216.nnn.nnn)

Need help with era dating...

Orange Bahne, pressed glass matt construction. 4 hole pattern. 29 3/4 x 6 7/8 flat. Classic surf shape (very similar in outline to g&s bowl rider) Top has been re-taped so not sure of logos, but bottom has the screened on type.

I am thinking 1977 or 78... also thinking mid-tracks and RR 4's would be era correct. (yeah the ones with the funky bearings that I ditched)

Need some thoughts and input please! (cause I just might be WRONG!) Thanks, HR

Authenticity
On 5/14/2001 Herbn wrote in from (216.107.nnn.nnn)

There are people who remember what stuff looked like,or own original stuff to hold up to pics, sometimes very precise details can be compared, when a wheel on a board has little raised letters and they can't be read, but the seller is claiming Roadriders ,it doesn't matter what the letters say they're not roadriders. Roadriders had big distinctive lettering and colors that may vary or change with age,but the owner of the board sees a Roadrider sticker on the board, and claims Roadriders on the board, whether it's to inflate price or demand or just out of ignorance. If you want roadriders, think your buying roadriders whatever,it's not good and should be pointed out.

Ms Carol
On 5/13/2001 hugh r wrote in from (205.216.nnn.nnn)

Ms Carol,

Your right... touching, feeling, smelling, bouncing the equipment would be a much better way to judge the authenticity of alleged NOS equipment... but you can't do that on e-bay... all we have to base our opinions on is the picture and the reputation of the seller...

There are people out there selling fakes of all sorts... art, sports collectables, etc... funny that people are getting so upset at having items questioned... down right puzzling...

The internet is a very easy place for things to be different than they appear. People too... your opinion might be taken a little more seriously if you didn't hide behind an anonymous name... just my OPINION... HR

Net Police
On 5/13/2001 Ms. Clarol wrote in from (64.12.nnn.nnn)

Now Were the Net Police? What do any of you have the right to say by seeing a picture what is and what is not an authentic skateboard. I for one know that photography is,at best, limited by a great number of factors. If you presume that eyeballing a Deck or a set of wheels is a true judgement without the touch and feel and scruteny of actual upclose inspection and proof then were all doomed. A best guess is not an accurate appraisal. So may I suggest that you limit you opinions to speculation rather than judgement.

Axle slip
On 5/13/2001 Pre-School Rider wrote in from (209.198.nnn.nnn)

GBJ,it's simpler than you might think to fix this, but it'll take a seasoned touch to make this work.Take the slipping axle out,and Gently tap it back in the hanger from the 'wrong' side.Stop! When it resists, pause, then gently ,consistently, heat the Hanger(remember, this is only Aluminium Vs. STEEL)as you tap the axle in.Cooling the axle can help(Yup.Ice on the ends works;Conductivity)as the slow heating makes the Aluminium swell a bit.It takes a bit of time, but it does work.Your re-swaged axle fit should be good for another few years.

Early Tracker Trucks
On 5/13/2001 GBJ wrote in from (24.18.nnn.nnn)

I just had the axle slip on another vintage Tracker fulltrack. Back in the day, a slipped axle was something that could not be repaired, but I figured I'd ask here anyway. Does anyone here know of a method for re-securing a slipped axle on Tracker Trucks? I now have three truck units suffering this condition, two fulls and a mid.
