Up here in canada we seem to abide by the bike laws...... the bike laws up here state a human powered vehicle with 2 or more wheels must obide by the bike laws. EASY.......... helmet, rear blinking light at night, front headlight (flashlight) at night and we're legal. i don't know about you states folks but it's worth looking into. i've been to court several times but no convicion yet......... it pays to know the rules...... my old girlfriend's mom is the courthouse librarian so she helps me out a lot!!!!! good luck being legal, each state is it's own!!!!!

THE LAW IS! Have more than one hill and ride the pee out of it untill the law comes. When he comes you say we are done thanks for giving us time and go to the other hill. Do that and the LAW will let you ride for a while before they run you off.For the most part they can be cool.I get ran off all the hills I run but THE LAW knows me now , for the most part. THATS KLUDYS LAW.

laws
On 10/23/2000 DT wrote in from (24.4.nnn.nnn)

You have to keep in mind how the system works. First you have to check with Federal laws (these only apply to federal property - certain highways, parks, etc) Second you have your state laws, followed by county laws, city ordinances, and lastly if your on private property (such as a guarded gate etc). These laws go from the minimum (state) to more strict (city) You can go down the the city or county clerks office and request all the laws regarding skateboarding (sometimes they charge like $5 or so) and they'll print them up for you.

here is a link for California State Laws and a FAQ/guidelines for cops off the TVS website.

Fluid Blue V
On 10/23/2000 hugh r wrote in from (205.216.nnn.nnn)

This cut-down worked out very well. I took it into the mid-thirties and it was very smooth and stable. DT took it quite a bit faster and it seemed to perform very well (although still to flexy for his liking)

For me though, this one is the keeper!

When I cut it down, I left the kick nose/tail in place. Looks pretty cool in my opinion... HR

Drop through tip... Get a Roto-zip... this is the slickest tool I have used in years. Makes the cutouts real quick and easy! HR

Speed
On 10/20/2000 Chris Chaput wrote in from (63.168.nnn.nnn)

Herbn, The video was shot from a harness that suspends a videographer out the side of a minivan while going down the wrong side of the road.

What I have done to become competitive:

Research. I found out what people doing 154mph (on snow) were using and doing and figured it would be more than sufficient for people doing 60+/-. Time. I searched around until I got some straight answers about who makes this stuff, what it would cost, and why it works. Money. Whether sponsors cough it up, you work for it, you marry well or inherited it, money is usually what someone wants when they spend time and their own money in constructing boards, helmets and suits for a living. Strategy. If you don't have a plan and some goals, how will you know when you get there? Practice. It's what keeps you from embarrassing yourself when show up for races. Skill. You need some. Experience. Racing with others who are better and faster will make you better and faster. Nothing can replace race conditions for the experience you'll need. Rookie mistakes are still haunting me, but I'm learning valuable lessons. Confidence. If you go into a race thinking that you can win, you can. It doesn't mean that you will, but it's possible. Brains. If you don't use your head and think about putting together a complete package, you will have chinks in your armor and they will be exploited by other racers. Balls. You betcha. It's the only thing that can overide the little voice in the back of your head that says, this hill is too gnarly, I'm gonna go sit in the stands.

There is more, but my philosophy is simple. When everyone's technique and riding ability is about the same, have superior equipment and the confidence it brings, and become the man to beat.

speed secrets
On 10/19/2000 DT wrote in from (24.4.nnn.nnn)

there's not much in the way of secrets in speedboarding, more technique. all it takes to be fast on an American based race is $$$$$$$ and lots of it. throw in a good push and bottomless pockets and your on your way to the podium, right Chris. In fact aero gear will make someone with an ok tuck go faster than someone with a polished tuck. Now if you got both, you'll be set.

Now a technical road is what seperates the men from the boys! If you can control your speed, still be aero, and have a strong push and come out alive than you'll be on your way to the podium regardless of aero gear. Of course it still helps.

oh one more thing, you'll need a set of balls

Wet weather
On 10/17/2000 craig wrote in from (196.34.nnn.nnn)

I was looking at some very wet pics of the hotheels comp.
I don't ride in the rain, i don't think it's good for the wood or bearings. And, my wheels don't like to hang on to the tar much on technical courses.

I think it's safe to say that Kaunertal is a fairly(!) technical course...so how do you get to the bottom alive, but still being fast enough to compete.

What wheels, i guess exkates would suck, so would krypto's. I do have set of XT wheels with tread, but haven't tried them in the rain? They are quite slow

Breaking is relatively ineffectual on a wet road....

Can someone please describe to me generally how equipment and style differ in the rain!

Craig

3-5 March

Organise your leave now. Rob a bank and buy a ticket, you won't be dissapointed. Red Bull treat you well, and our currency is poopoo so things will be cheap.

Forms can be filled out already at www.hotheels.net/Index1.htm

You get to race obnoxious little dicks like myself, and a bunch of other local hotties, as well as "the worlds best". The course is a 1,6km bendy road, with some good technical hairpins, and some fast straights, with beach at the bottom. 2000 saw stand up riders like eric lee, manu, orton, d rodgers, roli, cem, oberholzer, blah blah. It'll be rad, but i'd really dig to pit my skills against a bigger contingent of pros. Bring your "teams" down: Dregs, TVS, roughcuts whatever. Come on Chaput, bring on your flying camper, family, and quiver of downhill machines. You know you'll love it! Us South Africans want a fair chance at kicking everyones butt ;)

Everyone must come........except maybe Cory.....just kidding, you can also come .

I will be racing at the Australian extreme games in 6 weeks. If you are too, then let me know so I can pull out. you scare me.

Dregs
On 10/16/2000 cory wrote in from (207.14.nnn.nnn)

The Dregs team kicked butt. What I didn't understand is 2 things, why Biker crossed the line on the start and disqualified himself and 2 why dreads was so pissed off at the end of the race. He had a vibe going on at the end. It seemed a little immature, but I don't what was going on. If you ask me that is what racing is all about, Winning and doing what ever it takes to win. Even if that means blocking someone out like Biker did. Biker was a good sport. I am glad the dregs won. Go U.S.

gravity games +cavey v dread
On 10/15/2000 jon warburton wrote in from (213.123.nnn.nnn)

is it really true that you guys have only just had tha gravitygames aired in the us? could this mean that for once the uk has done something first? i gotta sit down. damn, im hyperventilating re cavey and dread, i raced cavey on that hill in the 2 man last year and i can assure you that he would NEVER throw the race. Perish the thought. that hill is all in the start, and passing opportunities are very limited. maybe he felt that dread was pushing that little too hard and the best tactic was to avoid tangling and hope (if that is the right word) thyat dread would make a mistake?
