Hey Kurt, Sorry to hear about your site updates....great product as I've been using it on my Sector 9 longboard for about 2 weeks now. I'm into high performance windsurfing and I saw your system as a way to convert my longboard into more of a high-speed landsailor. Well, it's working great!
Take a look at some initial pic's I took at: http://www.ispros.com/windsurf/landsail.html
Your system gives me wayyy more control of the speed generated by a windsurfing sail - as I make some high speed turns, I'm confident in the slide as the KwikSplit setup gives me feedback and a controlled slide - rather than just sliding out from under my arse as it did at first with the old setup (ouch).
Good luck the new new version.
L8t, Will.

Todcar, Adam, Ben: You're right about 48" x 12" not being anything new. I've seen and ridden some of Todcar's boards and they rip. The challenge, as I see it, is to raise the level of awareness about the 48" plus boards so that others can enjoy what we've been experiencing all along. The boards have been there, a good large core wheel has been mostly unavailable until now ("who's gonna buy them?") and the best trucks for the job have not yet been built. I notice that the wheels on the deck Adam posted are an inch or more away from the outside rail width and with centerset wheels, the setup would be even narrower. I'm having to using Randal Luge trucks with spacers to get closer to the width that I want. They work but they cost alot, weigh alot, and put unnecessary force on the axles. I am using the entire deck for the wheelbase and also use the slowest turning geometry on the market which most people would just never do.
We are not like most people. We'll have to lead by example and perhaps even build a little fleet of supersized boards and have a "regatta" where people could just jump on board and learn to love them. Video would help. The NCDSA is a great place to start. This isn't a new idea, but in speedboarding, I haven't seen much over 42".

Wide Load

Ben,
That setup sounds like quite a spectacle! While my riding tastes have gravitated towards cambered vlam decks of late, I was always amazed at the power I could transfer into the trucks with a stiff, wide deck. That particular pic shows eXkate 101s and 72mm double-offset wheels, hence the narrow wheelbase. Even with the red eXkate bushings, that Wide Load could easily max out both trucks and get the 48" tanker turning in impossibly small circles. Contrast that to my whippy FibreFlex 42" Cutaway that arrived with the same trucks/bushings and the difference was startling.
Thanks for the the kudos on the new forum. Now somebody go buy those Wide Loads from Wendell! ;)

What you should post is a picture of the wide load deck with the Gullwing 15" trucks and the Exkate 101 powerboard wheels.
I saw it in person at the Skunk and was awed.
Good idea with the Vendors forum. Good solution to a tough dilemma.
Not like we don't expect groundbreaking solutions to ethical quandaries from NCDSA - smooth as a parking structure with waxed concrete.

48x12, yes, an old idea. Here's a pic of a limited production "Wide Load" deck. Specs: 48x12, 3/4" 12-ply Baltic birch. I hear there might be one or two still available at Purple Skunk.

The idea of a 12x48 deck is really nothing new. Two years ago at the West LA GS race, I came in a "blazing" 11th out of 15 on a deck that was...12x48. granted, that was GS not downhill and no one will mistake 11th for first (unless they can't type). So it maybe groundbreaking for DH...but it's nothin new. I also came in a smoking, blinding 12th place on a 60x12 deck in the longboard GS that year. Now that would be a bit too much for DM I'm sure.

I'm working (skating) as fast as I can! Is there an aspiring young artist out there who wants to help me out with the graphics? It will help to get the wheels launched faster. I desperately need a logo and/or a wheel design for the sidewalls of the production wheels. I'm so used to being boring old Mr. Blank White with nothing on my equipment that I completely forgot about a product "marketable". I think it would be pretty cool to have a contest where the winner would get some wheels with his own design on them, and the runner ups could get wheels too. Keep in mind that Abec 11 should be clearly printed in a font that will work well with a logo. The wheel color is a light ghost with bright orange hubs in them. I'll probably want to include specs such as 83h ~ 52w ~ 50c ~ 78a for the Height, Width, Core and A-scale durometer. I'll be the only judge for the contest but the whole world will end up judging your work. Be creative. I'm a goofball and like wierd stuff. Is anyone up for the challenge? Email or fax me something. What do you have to lose?

Here is Max next to Min, a 40" x 10" speedboard. Taking away 5" at each end, the two different platforms would be 38"x12" and 30"x10" resulting in areas of 456 square inches and 300 square inches respectively. With Max you'd be flying with more than 50% more leg room then the other economy class airline.
Little voice in the back of my head, Said your too small and soon you'll be dead. Just lengthen your wheelbase, And then it's a real race, You'll be classic Economy (Ed!)

Max indeed rips. Chris was kind enough to let me ride it at WLAC a couple weeks ago, and I refused to give it back all afternoon. Make no mistake, this is not only a winning speedboard but is also the most awesome surf panzer ever conceived. Soulcarving? You better believe it. Price and availability, Chris, I want one.

Max looks bigger than picture suggests. With very wide trucks, huge wheels, etc. it's hard to really get a sense of scale (unless you notice how small the base plates are). Hey Chris, you should put a "regular" board next to it for comparison.

Three cheers for Webmaster Adam. This new forum is a welcomed breath of fresh air. Thank you, thank you. As most of you have probably guessed, I love this site and do what I can to add information, levity, "insider" information on equipment, events, riding, racing, etc. When there was such a buzz about my prototype wheels it put me in kind of a wierd place. I was completely stoked to have something so good so soon, and was overwhelmed by the responses from riders who had been praying for a wheel of this design. When I was informed that others thought that I was not complying with the posting guidelines, I stopped posting any unsolicited comments, and just responded to other's questions or comments. When the posts were removed, I started to really wonder if I was ever going to be able to say ANYTHING about skateboarding in general on this because I am now considered a competitor to other vendors and everything that I say can be construed as "hype" or "advertising". I lost the banner ad space in the Wheels forum to Kryponics and was sincerely bummed that there didn't seem to be an appropriate place to discuss the FAQs about the wheels, decks and trucks that I have designed.
After spending thousands and thousands of dollars in travel expenses, entry fees, cameras, computer equipment, software, training programs, leathers, helmets, gloves, bearings, wheels, trucks, boards, luges, shoes, tools and putting my life at great risk of injury over the last few months, I found an opportunity to R&D some prototype wheels and possibly produce them for everyone who liked them. I tested prototypes in South Africa and they preformed beautifully, even though I didn't. I made a production wheel and raced it at Barrett Junction this past weekend. Rather than tell you about the wheel itself, I'll let you draw your own conclusions. I started speedboarding 9 months ago as an Amateur. I am not a great, experienced, technical rider who can overcome the use of slower equipment. I had never won a speedboarding race. I had lost to Reed Lowry in DC and finished behind Eli Smouse in South Africa. I had never been in front of Gary Hardwick at the bottom of a hill, ever. I had never ridden my own production wheels in a race. That was, until yesterday. I got the boost that I was looking for and tasted Gold for the first time as a result. I won't insult your intelligence and suggest that if you ride my wheels, you will instantly win races, but what I can tell you is that they worked very, very well for me. Although I am very pleased and excited and love to ramble on, I'd rather get the wheels out and let you and the wheels do the talking for me. This is a grass roots effort to get a product off the ground. They should be available next month, on or before my birthday. I was born Abec 11th, 1961. Oops, make that April 11th. Thanks again for all the support. Chris at Abec11.com

I had an idea that in my opinion could be cool for longboards. Imagine that your rear truck is mounted in a rail maybe 6 or 8 inch long instead of a riser. That way it would be possible to adjust the distance between your trucks in a matter of seconds for different uses of your longboard. I'm a lazy man so I don't plan to design this myself (I don't have the necessary equipment) but if a company think this idea could be worth something, just e-mail me, it will make me happy.

I'll send you back(possibly by snail-mail) a wheel profile that I believe would work well, and possibly give you a new 'cruiser' wheel in the under 70mm size catagory.I know I'm not 'Mr Competition',but I've got a few ideas that have been stewing in my brain since my last encounter with Korten(and with every race with Gilmour+CMC,too). My e-mail is ebrammer@sover.net .My ideas come free of charge,no royalty payments or strings attached. Thanks, and good luck.
