mark - i am down to ride with u - buttboard, street luge, and stand up - once im back in nor cal in 2 weeks. Until then, im going to be down here in la, riding out the roads til my legs burn out. but hey, if u drive down here, i can show u some jaw dropping runs for the laydown stuff, as well as standup....so come down man! or we'll be sk8n in nor cal fo sho.

I know its been said by many at the York Maine races but I just have to say it again... GSI put on the greatest event. Even though I'm just a rookie racer, I was treated like a pro and got a chance to ride the greatest track. This organization is not only very professional and safe, there was also a spirit of family and fun that has hooked me for life. If you had any doubts or anxiety about getting involved with Gravity sporting, hook up with GSI and you'll be pleasantly surprized and riding with a smile. Hey, Tim (and all you other GSI officials), thanks for everything.

Mark,that's good stuff,using a thin riser and wheel-well combo.My thing is that often riders pick a truck by it's 'reputation',only to find it lacks in certain ares,like turning,or stability,and at That point often the 'solution' is to go grab a different truck in hopes it'll be better.A good proper set of bushings,axles,or thin wedges often does wonders for dialing in a truck(or two)so that it works the way you hoped it might in the first place.These 'add-on' parts are far cheaper than hopping from truck-brand to truck-brand,and are 'Tunable',meaning that you can get the Feel you want that suits YOUR riding.Consistency means comfort,and I prefer that at mile-a-minute speeds,as it means I have Less to worry about when hustlin'. Your set-up would give me issues,as I prefer to not have my board too low.It Sucks when your gloves intermingle with your wheels in sharp corners,so my wheels are on more riser,and placed where I am less likely to grab the rail in a sharp corner.I also then can lean hard without wheel rub.To keep my ride height low,I've made my board with a touch of LandYatchz R-IV influence,and my front truck is WAY up front.My sled may or may not pass Tech at some venues. So,your set-up works for you,and it's a good piece of advice for those who are happy with the trucks they now own.My bit on wedges,bushing,etc,is just another way to tweak what you have to suit. Experiment in practicing,Dial it in,then Leave It Be on Race Day.

Try not using angled risers I find they Make the board more twitchy and harder to hold a line in a turn going fast or at low speeds. Try 1/4 " riser and make weal wells, If your board is concaved you wont need them. This makes the board lower and i feel more stable at hi speeds . I have never had a problem making a turn or the board not making a turn even in a parking garage (assuming your using Randells). Thats all the angle risers do Make the trucks turn tighter or less tighter depending wich way you have them on and they make the board higher Just a suggestion. look like you got alot

I'll toss this cut+paste in to,I hope,alieviate any confusion my previous (and grouchy! Oy,my bad) post might have caused.I was (and am,yet) a bit irked to fing nifty photos of a well-done wedge set-up only to find the photos missing. Wedges are not always needed or wanted,as often choosing the better bushing kits can provide the steering a rider is looking for.Also,truck geometries vary,so some do well with a certain set-up,while other's get weird.Experiment,but do so methodically and while riding in control.
Randals and wedges On 4/24/2003 PSR wrote in from 216.114.xxx.xxx:
Slider89,they work just like other trucks in regards to wedges;Skinny end under the pivot=quicker turning;Fat end under the bushings=slower turning.Height is an issue for some with Randals,however,those thin Cellblock wedges(tahoelongboards carries them)are perfect here.I've found that taking R-2's and going with 5* wedges;up front,thin end under the pivot;in the rear,thin end under the bushings;sets up the trucks to turn in crisp,but still be stable at the rear.Just get rid of the stock bushings and washers asap,replace with Stimulators,Superballs,Tensors or DohDoh's.The stock bushings on Randals are just Dead,and the washers hack bushings apart quickly.Once dialed in to suit your turning style,I think you'll kinda like the Randals.They're strong,reasonably accurate,quick enough,and turn deep and smooth.

Allright,Mr. Novak,just to clarify,since the PHOTOS that Chris Chaput put up didn't 'copy+paste' at all... Wedges do this:They either decrease or increase truck steering response,in most cases(Gull 2002's being a weird exception,which I'm still mystified by..).The formula is simple. Put the thicker end towards the nose (or tail at the rear),and the truck becmes less turny.Put the thin end towards the nose(or tail,rear truck),and turning action becomes more responsive.Thusly,SLALOM riders tend towards a thin-end-forward front,and thick-end-aft at the rear,creating a turny front,and stable rear truck set-up.On DH or Buttboard set-ups,I go with flat up front,and a thick-end-facing-rear wedge for added stability,in general.Wedges come in different angles,as do trucks,so it TAKES TIME to 'SET-UP' something that works well,and feels right. There's a ton of info here in this website,and I really have repeated myself repeated myself many many many times,so Look It Up,please...

Arab asked us to post info on the boards we ran at the Hamm Slam. Here's mine:

A 28 1/2" Roughcut concave deck that tapers down from 8 1/2" to 8" wide. The trucks are mounted on 3 1/4" wide sections. It has a deadwood flex with hi-lo alternating griptape and beltsander strips on top. There are Randal 150's using Downhill cushions with an 1/8" flat pad in the front and a wedge pad removing steering from the rear. The effect of the wedge is lessened by a slight kicktail. The axle-to-axle wheelbase is 23 3/4". I'm using stock 74mm 75a Abec 11 Flywheels in the rear and the ones in the front were machined down to 40mm wide and have squarer edges on them. It kind of has that funny car look about it. I really like the way this board released when I pushed it past the point of traction. Silky smooth drift in the back and controlled steering in the front. This would be a poor choice in tight slalom but worked well on a hill that required control at faster speeds.

I am extremely sorry for any inconveniences this may cause, however, due to issues with the Athens City Council, the KING of the HILL event has been moved from Athens Ohio to Bainbridge Ohio, home of the 2000, 2001, and 2002 Ohio World Cups, for April 16 (open practice) and April 17th.

This will be a two day IGSA National event. Friday from 11am till dark will be an open practice session. Saturday will host a mourning practice session, qualifying, and the racing!

This venue has been used in the past, and as anyone who has raced Jester Hill can tell you, it's one of the fastest, most challenging courses around. Expect the pit area and course itself to be revamped, and have a loud, energetic, party atmosphere. A DJ, amoung other cool extras, have been organized for the event. Expect a world class feel at this one.

The same focus on bringing in media for the event that was planned for the Athens race will still be in place for Bainbridge. Press Releases have gone out, and we are expecting a very good media turn out, so be sure to brush that hair and wash your leathers.

Red Bull energy drink will be helping out with the after party in Chillocothe Ohio. The after party will have TVs and VCRs to be able to review any footage from the racings. This after party will be open to all competitors.

Hotel discounts and trophy and prize announcements will be made shortly.
Again I appologize for any inconvenience this has caused. This was an inter-city issue with Athens that was out of my hands. I would like to the thank IGSA for supporting the event as they were hit with this change as suddenly as myself. But all things aside, this will be an amazing race that will have all of the great race aspects as it always has, along with the unique attention to media, prizes, and venue atmosphere as the planned Athens race.

Howzit BBs!!!
This is old "Stop, Drop, and Roll" just dropping in to see howmany of you guys are going to the April 17th "King of the Hill event in Ohio. I am going for sure as a stock gravity biker but also I am going to get back into buttboarding. Hey the fee for this gonzo event is little compared to other World Cup events in the past. First registered event is only $60 then an addtional $20 for each one after that. Just check out the post at www.gravity-sports.com. I'm gonna be there!!!
