I'm new to street luge and am looking for a board. After searching web sites, I see that rewsport street luge offered by Andy Lally is about the most affordable peggless luge out their. Does anyone ride one of these or know someone that does? I would appreciate your (or their) input. I don't have the tools to build my own so I am looking for a prefabricated luge if anyone has any suggestions.

Extend your footpegs towards the front, so your legs are stretched flat instead of bent, keep the front truck mid thigh, and the rear close to your head. Thats still a luge no matter how you look at it. I dont have to say pads, since the last guy did. What kind of trucks and wheels ya got on that? Pretty cool

Just pointing out the lack of protective gear (leathers, decent helmet, gloves etc). Everyone wants to have fun but you don't want your first run to end up at the hospital.

This comes up every year, Guiness does NOT list all of their records in their website and when I contacted them last year they where not interested in coming out to record any record that could place them at risk in a liability lawsuit.
As for Darren Lott's buttboard record all records are subdivided by classes, Darren’s record is a gravity sports record for Buttboard and Tom’s record is a gravity sports record for Streetluge two different classes. This is going to happen to Powered Streetluge also, we will end up with speed records for Gas, Jet, Rocket, Electric and any other power source that someone attaches to a streetluge.
Now if you want to debate Powered Streetluge versus Gravity Streetluge, I run on flat land as does Bob Swartz but the Guiness record is held by Billy Copeland who fired his rockets while running down hill. How do we address that???
It’s all about the need for speed and the funny thing is this debate goes on every year but the people out there with that need who are pushing the limits are not the ones debating it.

I’m only going by what I remember was told to me as to the “World Record” story.
Mt. Whitney Portal Road. Tom Mason with Red Bull there by himself. Of course, that alone should have made the entire thing suspicious. Pretty funny really, just goes to show that how a story can become “fact” without anyone really questioning the claim.

I was told by Tom himself that hisworld record was a joke, and that he really never did it. This iswhy it was in the book for about an hour. He just wanted to prove how crazy the whole sport had gotten on legitimacy. The only world recordI know of was the one that Hickey did, and I was there to see it. His was taken outof the book also.

Okay, I was probably ahead of myself on the previous post. Tom Mason doesn't have the "only" official record, just the last Guiness record. I think Roger Hickey probably has a record or two also. What's interesting is that these records don't show on the current Guiness web listing, but they are mentioned elsewhere...

Tom Mason set the only "official" record. I beleive it was at the Mt. Whitney Portal Road.
http://expn.go.com/athletes/bios/MASON_TOM.html
TOM MASON NickName: WILDMAN Born: ENCINO, CA USA Birthdate: 12/13/1961 Height: 5 ft 10 in Weight: 180 lbs. Hometown: VAN NUYS, CA USA Occupation: CONTRACTOR/STUNT MAN Marital Status: Married Children: 2 Participant since: 1995 Competitor since: 1995 Notable: Tom is probably the funniest man in luge, as well as one of the sport's most aggressive riders. Tom tends to qualify poorly, which could keep him out of the top 24. Mason holds the Guinness record for fastest luge time: 81.28mph set in 1998.

No world record for streeluge speed?

I posted this on the fish, but I also respect the advice from here so here it goes.....
I was searching for records for streetluge and guess what...there are none! Sorry but in my mind buttboard is not streetluge. It may be considered 'classic luge' but it aint a pegged luge. I know "rocket man" has some kind of speed record on a streetluge, but I cant find it on the site. So does that mean, if I can prove 50mph, that it would actually be a record? (Although we all know 70mph is achieved every year now). Darren Lott= 1998 buttboard= 65mph Steve Fernando 1998 oldest X-games medal @45 years of age (sorry Steve)

Stacy Allen Visit-Aug 06'

Last week I traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma to visit Stacy Allen. July marked the one year anniversary of her tragic street luge accident that has left her paralysed from the waist down. It had been five months since I last saw her so I was really looking forward to my visit. Stacy and I have always been close friends and we always have a lot of fun together.
Since December or 05' Stacy has been in an intensive physical therapy program that involves a six hour drive to Texas each week. Her family has dedicated themselves to her recovery and their commitment is really showing. When I last saw her in March she couldn't even sit up on her own. Now she is doing 75 sit ups a day! While I was there she also was able to bring her knees together simultaniously for the first time!!! This is a huge step forward. Her rehabilitation is a long, slow process but everyone who knows her believes that she will walk again.
Stacy spends 2-3 hours a day working out at home doing exercises she learned visiting "Project Walk" on her recent trip to California. She does all sorts of exercises designed to regain control of her legs and also strengthen the rest of her body. The workouts are intense and leave both Stacy and her helper tired. I helped her with a few of her workouts and they left me tired! She now calls herself the, "Stacy Home Gym!" (ha ha!)
Last time I visited we converted one of her bedrooms into a small gym. She soon outgrew that small gym, so over the past few weeks Stacy's Mom, Uncle and Grandparents have been hard at work converting her garage into a bigger gym. Her Uncle Bruce built her a new large workout bench where she can crawl and do all sorts of exercises. He also added some airconditioning ducts to keep the room cool from the hot Oklahoma summer. Stacy's Mom Tina painted the walls and bench in bright uplifting colors, added a large tropical beach mural and carpeted the floors. Mirrors were also added.
The last thing that needed attention was the garage door. Together, Stacy, Tina and I insulted the door and covered it with a mural to make it look like water. For a finishing touch Stacy made these really cool pillows with all sorts of bright colors and modern designs. She has learned to use the sewing machine by operating the foot pedal with her arm pit... The whole gym looks awesome now and it is a really nice room to hang out in.
One piece of equipment that her gym is lacking is called a "Standing Frame." In Texas she uses one and she is able to stand up for around 30 minutes at a time. This is really important for her rehabilitation. Unfortunately this particular standing from costs around $4,000 and her insurance won't pay for it. I am starting a fundraising drive to help Stacy get her standing frame. Anyone who would like to contribute please contact me rietema_m@yahoo.com. We will organize a fundraiser with the upcoming Ohio race as well.
Stacy really appreciates the emails and phone calls she receives from everyone in the gravity sports community. Please keep them coming. She can be reached via email at stacyallen@cox.net. I have posted some photos of my recent visit.
