Wonderland Skatepark, Dubai UAE

Posted some pics I took of the Wonderland Skatepark in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Not much skating going on in the day time due to the desert heat. But at night the skaters come out like bats. It's one of the few places you can skate in the Middle East without drawing a crowd.
Pics on my blog at: http://www.asiacastaway.com/2007/06/skating_in_duba.html
Also, I heard there's a new indoor park, but didn't have time to find it. So if you're sent out that way for some reason and have some R&R time, check out Dubai. They even have a huge indoor ski hill with real snow.

Just posted more photos of the skatepark in Shanghai China
http://www.asiacastaway.com/2007/05/smp_skatepark_s.html
FYI: In the photos SMP has their brand all over the park, but it's a city owned public park. So it's free. Now if only the plane ticket out there was free as well.

Shanghai Skatepark China

Just skated the park in Shanghai. Haven't had time to post all the photos to my Flickr account. Here's a link to a quick slideshow of what it looks like at ground level.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/cargocycling/sets/72157600267532594/show/
The place is massive. They've got stadium seating and night lights for street and vert contests, which you can see off in the distance. They've got several pools ranging in depth. The largest pool is so deep and massive that it's hard to guess how deep it is. If I had to guess I'd say it's 12 feet deep on average with other sections 15 feet deep or more. There's also a huge mulit-story half pipe "complex" designed for professional contests and camera crews. Also, the steel and glass building you'll see in the photos has locker rooms, skateshop, etc.
The place was totally deserted except for a few skaters from Europe that flew out just to skate the park.
I'll post more photos on my Flickr account in the next day or so time permitting.

Street trucks on that gravity board will work but thats definitely a mismatch. Get some wider trucks. And the homemade board ... well, knock yourself out but you will be severely handicapped. And Fudruckus ... yes there have been sessions but its still officially closed and even those of us with connections got booted yesterday by the parks folks. They were pissed, too. But they did say it will be opening in just a few more weeks. Here's what was observed before the city folks arrived. If this doesn't make you happy I suggest getting heavily involved in some advocacy and get your town to bring in Dreamland. The more the merrier. CT could use something other than all the McSkateparks.

2 questions

I have two park related questions. 1) will 130/140mm street trucks work on a Gravity C39 deck for parks and whatnot? 2) would a home-made board without a kick work for pools/ parks etc? (The home-made board would also use the street trucks)

Girndline is great, but I like Dreamland Parks better. Gindline puts a lot of round hips.. I like sharper hips and what's up with extention. Escalater that s#@!. I run into that s#@!. Not open till July? I heard their is a session today.

Need help for a new park

We in York, PA are raising funds for a concrete skatepark. It is to be named after and dedicated to a young man who was killed while streetluging in 2005. For more info see http://reidmenzermemorialskatepark.org/
A fundraiser is being held June 2nd, at which I was asked to put on an informal longboard slalom race. The surface is very rough however, and I don’t have enough soft wheels to put on my boards for the kids to ride. This will be a chance to introduce people to slalom who may have never seen or tried it.
If you have soft wheels (82a or lower) that you can spare, it would be much appreciated. I’m pretty sure donations are tax deductible. Please help us if you can. Thanks, PA Dan

I have to admit, I'm REALLY hoping that this isn't a "street-only" park.
