true dat monson...
On 6/6/2004 psYch0Lloyd wrote in from (216.80.nnn.nnn)

...that guy who worships waves is a true inspiration. he really gives dedication a new meaning. today cfavero, cnova and i experienced the brotherly sess while scoping out some possible race sites. started of by taking the subway down town at about 8:00 AM in the morning. then having a spot of joe at a streetside cafe. weird sight was a replica of the paris metro stop on michigan avenue really put a twist on the new day that was baking up so nicely.

skating around the newly renovated museum campus offered many opportunities for soul sessions on various grades some matching the steepness of the trocadero. long clean concrete paths intersecting and diverging offering numerous possibilities of attack. miles and miles of riding with the occasional interation with pedestrians. we definitely will be doing this again.

when i got back home around noon julicat wanted to take a walk to the heartland cafe so i switched out decks and accompanied her on the roll. while there we met a group of six women who didn't care too much about men. great conversation and they knew all about eating. skated back home and ticky, ticky, ticky, on the computer again...

daily sessions!
On 6/5/2004 wacky wrote in from (67.169.nnn.nnn)

hey skatecats...

kinda rollin' on the sidlo tip ~ make the skate happen! i recently bought the dvd "step into liquid" which is pretty killa it basically chronicles the various aspects of surf culture and how you should just get your stoke on in any form of surfing available to you. the main message was if you surf you're a surfer and are tied into the surf culture. i'm a summer surfer and get my surf stoke with a yearly pilgrimage to santa cruz to visit some great friends and of course surf! i also plan to try wake surfing this summer on some local lakes so that should help keep the surf stoke going.

the real point i want to make is the inspiration i received from a story in the movie featuring dave webster he is dedicated surfcat up in nocal who surfed 10,407 consecutive days! (that's 28 1/2 yrs) so i figured i could at least make the daily dedication to session everyday this summer ...even it is just a quick 15 min. 3 run session down the 6 story parking garage 2 blocks away. i have been going since june 1st and thought it was a fun goal to keep the daily stoke going. some of you have access to a backyard pool and the daily stoke is probably a foregone conclusion.

the point is make a daily session ~ carve up a hill/wiggle a course/rip up a ditch/rule a pool ~ do whatever you can to keep the stoke alive! we are all skaters and that is translated on so many levels ...if you love to skate you are part of the skate culture no matter what you skate or how you skate it ~ if the passion burns ride the concrete wave! we all contribute to the overall universal stoke when we get out and session so hit a session today and stoke it up!

peace ...monson

skate everywhere
On 6/5/2004 psYch0Lloyd wrote in from (216.80.nnn.nnn)

while taking a moment to reminisce about our recent adventures cfavero came to the conclusion that we haven't been skating nearly enough and with this i had to reluctantly concur. seems that we get all caught up with the day to day business of living or just expect perfect skatepark or race conditions in order to drop in. too many excuses over time and before you know it riding may seem a little strange.

throwing down while in a strange land was such an inspiration. i definitely plan too extend that vacation and discover new rides here at home. riding everywhere taking us back to the moment.

see ya swerve.

Here is this weeks 'progression video' -- riding from Friday/June 4th
it has been one week since I posted 'Hang Time' -- riding from Friday May 28th
and I went out two times in the past week.

I promised some grabs...and here they are!

I am so happy and had a blast today.

also tried a HS 180 w2w for the first time. got up and around.landed...but didnt sSTICK the landing. slid out.
trying again tomorrow and hopefully my next video will have that and my TS w2w that I am now working on!

Very happy with my grabs..Indy and tail and did one roast beef!!
also did a 180 surface off the wake (something new I had never tried before)

let me know what ya think. I am trying to learn something new each time I go out!

I think the song is fitting! Enjoy

yea, that was a rad ride.to put it in my words, first hanging with the crew(ie;richie steve ,bruce, joe, joe ,kate, maria, alan and sharon)laughing and joking after an awesome day of racing at the trocadero.then, deciding to drop our gear at my hotel 3+miles away, but wait, the street apears to be a long downhill.so we hit the boards and street after street just kept going downhill.a perfect warm summer nite skating with my friends who i have known for 20 plus years ,having the street surfing session of the year.blowin thru the crowds of people as we crossed the sienne, down under the eiffel tower.slipping back into the darkness of an unamed street.when we rolled up to the hotel on a quiet backstreet corner, i realised i had just experienced something special.i had come to paris thinking it was to compete and got something so much more special,a magical session with my friends, all i could think was,THAT WAS RAD.cf

paris, france
On 6/1/2004 psYch0Lloyd wrote in from (198.160.nnn.nnn)

paris is longboarder heaven...

cfavero, sharon and i were hanging out with at the carrasco's appartment somewhere close to the 16th arrondissement (district) one night along with steve olson, bob (the fotog), bruce brewington and joe 'n katie iacovelli's. maria and richie are such great hosts we couldn't thank them enough for their welcoming presence! steve and richie were cracking on each other and anyone within view which had us doubled up in laughter at their fake french accents... at some point we all decided to split to do our own thing so we started walking towards the eiffel tower when it became apparent that the streets were inviting and the roads seemed to be all downhill from there.

at first we kept on the wide sidewalks carving along as if on piste when all of the sudden we busted out into the smooth winding streets of paris. we kept our path on the medium grades as some of them were quite steep so foot braking was sometimes a requirement. we crossed the seine as we approached the eiffle tower and there were all kinds of people milling around the base at about 8 people per 25 sq. ft. density. people slalom was the word of the day as we carved around the well lit area the asphalt wasn't as smooth as the rest of the ride but it was a mild slope with small rollers almost like a well worn mogul run. we rode a couple more miles like this until we got to cfavero's hotel on the west bank and went upstairs to grab a drink. the veiw from his window was majical. it was the eiffel's light show and the perfect ending to the evening.

the french skaters and pretty much everyone we met were quite hospitable as opposed to all the stories i had been hearing about how they were supposed to dislike americans. one thing for sure is that i'm making the promise that i'm going back there again some day.

only the best,
alan sidlo

bloody vids!
On 5/25/2004 silversurfer wrote in from (24.62.nnn.nnn)

ah vaitus, glad you enjoyed "scabs in wonderland". Yes, I believe that those are real wipe outs and real blood. Amazing that they aren't wearing helmets at those speeds. The other videos on that website are awesome also. Check them out when you get a chance and let me know what you think.

Also, glad you are enjoying Skateboard Madness. It is a classic.

I am enjoying Future Primative, also. It was kind of amazing to see them skate the twin towers.

Did you ever check out the videos section of www.carverskateboards.com? There is a guy skating on an actual surf board. Incredible.

anji - Love your vids. Still looking forward to seeing you skate more. For wheels, go with what vaitus said, Flashbacks (72-75a for your size) for carving and cruising. Something harder (around 85-90a) for sliding. It's good to have several types of wheels. Good single purpose wheels can make a huge difference.
Think about some good bearings, too. Good wheels and bearings will make you fly.

Have you ever checked out www.surfacemotion.com? It's an instructional site that might give you some ideas for integrating wake surfing with skateboarding.
If you check it out let me know.

Is your husband still grabing your board, or did he get his own yet?

Alan - how is France? What good skate spots have you found? I will be monitoring CNN to see if anyone slaloms down the eiffel tower.

Everyone - what is the surfiest feeling skateboard truck? I have my opinion but I want to know what YOU think. Let me know.

blood, vids and wheels

SS, finally checked your skateboard madness dvd, it's AWESOME dude!

Angi you need to check out some softish flashbacks, they are ze most all around wheel money can buy. true story: a friend of mine once ditched his brand new street $40 g's after trying my flashies! Recovered them from the trash, sold them here on ncdsa (if I remember correctly) and split the money with him.

haven't finished watching all those videos on the link you posted, but so far the first one is the most amazing, the narrow paved trail in B.C. is worth a trip....and a helmet too, just watch in the final "wipe out" section what happens when the guy gets highsided and plants his skull on da pave.....I don't know if that's real but looks like an awful lot of blood...strap on your helmet if you're going that fast.
