Sounds like Breck was a great friggin time. Wished I coulda made it. Congrats to Dave...you deserve it man. Miko, Rav, and the rest of my NorCal homies...great showing. Thanks for the wish Judi, I'll tell Sirie hi for you next time I talk to her.
Evans has me on the program down here. We're skating together whenever we can, which may turn out to be only once or twice a week but whatever. Although I can't skate as much as I'd like. I just got a job at a bike/skate shop that of course has me missing the Saturday and Sunday session with the entire SSS crew...
Evans and I pulled a two-a-day session yesterday with 5.5' at the 'path' in the am. And just when I thought I had it wired, he threw in some wacky cones to make it hard again!!! After running that course for a while, we set a TS that Evans told me later used to be 'hard', it was a breeze after the 5.5'. Later on in the day, we went to 'Natures' (not to be confused with Kenny) for some super fast GS and smoking 6'...after all this and the additional practice I'll get before the Worlds, I hope I can make the race. heheheheheheheh
Now we all know Evans is the Professor, right? Check this out...
The first time I skated 'Natures' was a few weeks ago shortly after moving down here. It was my first true TS session in quite a while and Steve was blazing....blazing. I was hitting everything in sight. I couldn't even run the entire course, I had to start part way down. So, this guy was walking by with his dog and stopped to enjoy the action. I had just taken a run and Steve was giving me pointers etc. after I plowed about 15 cones out of 30. Then Evans marches back to the top of the course and throws down this super fast clean run. The guy looks at me and says, "that's why he's the teacher huh?" I calmly turned to him and said, "actually, he's the Professor!!" True story...

Hey Ravi... I'm not going to let it go with a simple "I got 11th in the GS."
The field was amazingly fast, and the course was a hard one. No way was it a GS, but it was one of the most difficult hybrids I've ridden. In many ways I feel the TS was a no-brainer compared to the hybrid.
That 70+ cone course you set on Bernal is a good hard course with a remarkable blend of both super-tight stuff like sunday's course, mixed with *exactly* the kind of offsets we encountered in the hybrid... conincidence???!!!! I think NOT!!!. Thanks for the precog practice course.
That run against Barker was my most excellent birthday present sunday. Being 16th pro was a laugh cause I knew I had to run against the fastest qualifier. I had a few good jokes with Fluitt about trading my 16th for his 17th spot, but was glad we left *that* alone.
My plan was to barge, but it was a scant .0075 secs, so a penalty of .015 was totally worth it. I got out way ahead and managed to stay there to the halfway point. Then I could tell he was pushing it. I was stoked to only hit 4 cones, but realize I need to hit even less.
I let up on the second run and realize I need to race 100% committed EVERY run in the fast brackets. I truly think we all have more in reserve than we know (or believe), and it's the hardest thing to train for... building that faith and being willing to be confident in that, then *really* pulling it off. That's what we really need to work on. How the hell do we do that?
Anyway, congrats on your 11th Pro GS finish my friend! I'm shooting for some Bernal action monday night if anyone's interested. Onward to the worlds!

Bruce by the way how are you feeling? I meant to email you and see how you were doing after La Costa. You would like Bernal. No! footbraking. It's like a smaller version of La Costa. Nice pavement, 2 lane road. I don't have your email. Sasha knows how to get a hold of us.

I'm glad you all converged on Breck. I missed seeing you all at some of the earlier races. I didn't do so well fly'n the Nor-Cal flag at Luna. Did a bit better at Hood, and thankfully a crew came down to La Costa to kick some butt! Cause I got mine kicked on sunday.
Looks like I might be out for the rest of this year darn-it. Got 6 more weeks in the cast, might get it off right before the Worlds if all goes well.
Mike, all the best to you with the move and school and all. It was my pleasure to run cones and get schooled by you and others at GGP almost every sunday.
Bernal road sounds like the new place to be! When do you all hook-up for practice? Maybe you'll let me crash a session (no pun).

Good showing for NorCal at Breck - you were missed.
The big winner was David Price - 4th in DH over Chaput. What a gas - the Comet Downhill DNA runs deep.
Miko makes final Pro 16 in TS, and almost beats Barker on his first run. You should have seen it - right down to the last few cones.
Mark Johnson makes final 4 in TS - he did a really nice job beating some good talent
Judi consistently is on the podium with a 2nd in TS and GS. AS I think about it, probably the longest streak of 1-2 finishes in skating history, as far as I can tell.
I took an 11th in Pro GS and 6th in Open TS.
What is the latest with you - job, school, skating, living, etc. - give us an update

Mike you were missed. You would of done very well at the venue. It was great to see the Nor Cal boys do so well. Bernal has paid off. Miko, Mark and John Kim thanks for all the tips and all the great training time. I felt a bit rusty since I hadn't races since October. Mike you'll have to start meeting us for some great practice sessions. I think the bike training has really helped so keep up with the cross training it really works.
David you did very well on the slalom courses and killed in on the Downhill. I thought about doing it since I use to love it so much. Then I remind myself I'm almost 45 and I have 2 great kids. Mom doesn't need to do it all.

Hey Mike, sorry I missed you when you were in Connecticut... I live just outside of New Haven and am .. maybe 5 minutes away from downtown. I'm glad you like New Haven, it has this reputation of being a s#@!hole but most of it is nice. Of course, there are some places you don't go!
Congrats on geting onto design school, I beleive you, mike gorman, and I are all designers... go ick go!

Gravity's are a good suggestion.
Also, check out the Abec 11 line up.
The 70's Flashbacks are sort of like old school kryptos, come in harder duros and are reportedly good for sliding. Very good longboard cruising wheel.
You could check out Kryptonics, also. But the flashbacks are more like old kryptos than the new kryptos are, if that makes any sense.

Good question, I don't know of any wheels off the top of my head other than Cambrias. They come in the hardnesses you seek however I dunno how well they slide. I've heard of Edger wheels but don't know the duros they come in. Anyone out there have better knowledge of wheels that could pitch in on the discussion?

Any advice for a 35 year old skater, who was pretty good in the mid to late 80's. I've been long boarding the last couple years and finally found some kryptonic c70's for the hauling ass hill bombs. But now what I really crave is an old fishtale board (like a madrid jon lucereo with the mtech spoon nose, alva fish , etc) & most importantly some wheels like the old ratbones 85a or 90a durometer. I cant seem to find any wheels that are smooth fast on real world terain, and have that smooth controllable slide for downhill power rides.
anyway sorry if this rabbles im not much of a computer guy. any way do you know of a modern wheel that will give me that old world slide without chattering my teeth out of my skull? p.s. any one want to go for a ride im allways ready in oregon . long rides no pushing no kick flips big carves power slides and maybee if im drunk ill throw in a bonless for the old days.

She lives almost at the corner of State and Bradley. It's certainly not ghetto. The tag sale is simply a New Haven name for a yard sale or garage sale as they are known elsewhere. I kept seeing these signs all over town announcing a tag sale. We checked one out and got a nice little table for $9. No kidding Kenny, the Big Apple is the place to be. Everything I experience in the few hours I was there was very memorable. Watch out East Coast I could be on the move...well, once I finish my studies at Brooks. Stepping out of the commuter train and into Grand Central was amazing. I felt like I was in a movie. The kicker was walking up the stairs out of the subway in the middle of Times Square. It felt like I finally got to a party I had been trying to get to for years.
Da Farm, man one of these years I WILL make that one. Breck, don't think so. Wish I could but this little trip to New Haven has drained my bank account and right now I'm unemployed waiting for the final payment for my car to happen. At this point, I don't even know about the Worlds. School starts in October and if there are any conflicts between skateboarding and school, school will win for the next couple years. I'm going to continue to practice with the Professor and SSS so the next time I race I can come out swinging, at least swinging harder and more accurate than LC. The plan is to NOT do what I did at La Costa...It'll be a differnt skater with an Ick Stick under his feet.
So, what's happening in the slalom world right now?
Gotta roll, I've got some running around to do then Sirie and I are going to the beach. And yes, east coast beaches are beautiful, quite impressive even to this California boy.hehe... No surf though, unless you're GI Joe, fitting into 4 inch closeout tubes.

Not quite TK. A tag sale is when someone wants to sell all contents of a home, usually after someone passes away. A professional comes to the house and "tags" the items for sale. Robin and I purchase some vintage patio furniture at a tag sale a few years ago. Robin is tag sale queen. Usually furniture, antiques, etc.

Sounds like you are tasting some fine east coast food and enjoying the vibe of the Big Apple. I have only been a few times, but it really is America's city. The energy is much different than the west coast- dont you think?
The New England beaches are the most beautiful in the country, except not much waves (pipe down Ohm). Glad you are having fun. Should have come to the farm. It was killer. Can we stay with you next year in your loft in the City?

I'm staying on Bradly street. We spent the day in NYC yesterday. My first time to the Big Apple. I gotta say, once I finish school I'm going to look for work there. The place in crazy. We had a walk around Times Square, walk around the park, champagne at the Carlyle, a few hours at the Met, then to the Village for some of the most unbelievable Ossobuco I've ever tasted, then to something Castaways to see some live music. Just returned to New Haven on the commuter train this afternoon.
Skating sounds cool, but I'm not prepared to skate. Didn't bring a board or pads. Thanks for the invite though.
