I paddled out at nine palms once with a 1 oz krocodile and cast towards shore, into the backs of the waves. caught a 6lb barred pargo. not that easy getting to shore. good thing it wasn't bigger. I was feeling quite the bad-ass, but next day, as I sat in the lineup with none other than pat curren, some guy swims by with an old wooden speargun. 1/2 hour later, he swims in with 3 fish in the 10-20 lb range, grouper, cabrilla and spanish mackerel. now that's fishing and surfing.
mike, get a hotline 4/3 with hood. you'll be fine.
TK, I don't know you but I wish I did. have fun.

TK-I HAD NO IDEA! That's GREAT NEWS!
I'd love to come surf, skate & fish with you. I don't think I have a wetsuit for it though. Mine's a 4/3 and it's not warm enough for OB. I freeze my booty off everytime I paddle out up here. I guess I gotta invest in a new suit. Fish huh? I was just doing a little fishing myself a couple weeks ago. There's a little lake over in the East Bay called Del Valle Lake or Res. Sirie and I went camping, rented a little motor boat and I caught a couple small mouth bass and a rainbow trout. Anyhow...I gotta run. I'm supposed to be going on a video shoot with this guy today to document some sidewalk surfing ala slalom style. I know a couple roads over in the Sunset Dist. here in SF that'll look killer on video. We're also going to shoot some slalom, hopefully, once we finish that. Right now though, outside isn't looking to skate worthy....heavy fog up here this morning with roads as wet as if it just rained. I plan to copy the edited version and get some copies to everyone...I promise they'll be cheap!!!heheheheh
Take it easy.....

No Breck, Sandys supposed to have a baby that day. Shes tough but not THAT tough. Once the lil one gets old enuf we will be back at the races in Ca. For now its Da Farm and local jam sessions. Come to NH any time to skate Rye Airfield, surf uncrowded point waves and fish. Theres always room at my house so long as you like dogs. Its a cool scene here. Good luck in Breck. TK

Ok ok... I'm still hot to have a GRS somewhere with all you guys, and maybe a few others? Not many slalom races posted after Breck for a good bit. Let's make something happen!
Can't wait to see that new board Mike!

Clayton...I'm into the Presidio session. I can't make the Tuesday one, but Thursday would work well for me. Right now, I don't know about Tunnel for this kid...sounds fun as always, but I just don't know what's on tap for Sirie and I this weekend. That dream of unreasonable amounts of money and a keg of Guinness might not be too far off. Wait until you see the board I've got on the way!!!!!!! It'll know your socks off. I'm outta here. No tie to wear for the next three days...WOOHOO!! Peace out yo.

Let's tunnelroad this sunday (a little piedmont included)! you all down with that?
Also, I think it would be a lot of fun to do the whole north - south of sf airport thing soon. i'm sure it will be fun - localism rules. And no! - I don't think I want to be team maysey (unless i get paid unreasonable amounts of money and a weekly keg of guinness).
another smart thing to do in sf is our own weeknight practice. presisidio is fun and a slightly fast. how about it? tuesdays and thursdays around 7?
Keep it real.

Miko-What I meant was, the Bomb Squad probably wouldn't want to be 'Team Maysey.' They've got their own thing going. David-Tunnel Super GS would be killer...I also think Killer Hiller would be totally cool. Hey, if there's cones it's slalom....I think.

Mike - the Bomb Squad not DOWN!!???? It usually seems like Ravitch, Jonathan, Clayton, Sully, Eli are ready to go. I'm sure this would be a fun GRS format, despite the resemblance to other unappetizing, disastrous geographic quarrels. We're all crew, so it's all good.
I'm particularly good for lots of riding in the 6/18 thru 6/30 dates. Let's put something on the calendar!
Either saturdays 6/21 and 6/28 would rock... If there's no GRS I'm looking for some downhilling action those days.

Richy and I just watched 2 of the 5 reels I shot at the Gravity Fest event tonight. Just like being there again . . . some very cool action -- alot of racers were really rippin it up! Will be making a video on this one for sure. Also will try to post some grabs after I get some stuff in the computer . . . it all takes so much time and the events just keep coming!!!!! Thanks David for the latest round of stills and your "review" of the race.

Hey guys, I'm going to cut outta here in a bit to GGP. I'm planning on setting some tight. I'll probably be on the hill by 11:30am...sorry I missed the Tornado last night. Once I got home after my 'butt plant' at the Peidmont park and then 4 runs on Tunnel...couch was all I wanted.

David...thanks for putting up those pics. I happen to like that one of you where you're only half in the frame. It's an interesting shot to look at. I won't tell you when we skated yesterday. I will tell you the name of the road starts with 'T' and it's a pretty long and mellow downhill run. Clayton and I ran into a group of guys who are friends with Dan from SF Longboarding. We sessioned with those guys for a while and had a blast. See you soon...

When I learned to pump

I learned to pump by accident. In June, 1976 I upgraded my four-month old 27" Bahne from Da' Kines (which were about as resilient as granite,) to brand-spanking new Road Rider 4s. Not only was this a tremendous increase in speed and traction, it was also my first precision bearing wheel.
Anyway, I remember it well: about 10:00 on a Saturday morning, I got home from the bike shop where I had just got my RRs. By 10:30 I was out on my hill and riding these new wonders. I decided to literally "push" my RRs harder than I had ever pushed the Cadillacs. I figued if I slid out and bailed, what the hell? It was worth the pain to find out what these suckers could do.
Instead of sliding out, though, I accelerated out of the turn across the road. So, that's what all those guys in Skateboarder were talking about? I spent the rest of the day PUMPING down the hill. By the end of that summer I was "cross country" pumping my neighborhood street at distances of 3 miles or more two or three times a day. Yeah, I was skinny as a rail with 4% body far. Those were the days!
