Lookin forward to a big article on Fruitbootin in the new issue of Concrete Wave!!!!!!!!
My kid got nailed by a Fruitbooter at the skatepark, this kid was about 15 yrs old and 170 pounds, Nathan(my son) was 8 and all of about 70 pounds, Nathan ended up getting knocked out for a minute and awoke with a broken collarbone, He missed the 2002 California Amatuer Skateboard League State Championships along with the first 3 contest of the 2003 season.
Nathan dont like Fruitbooters and neither does his dad, Whats worse then a Bladder with a stupid lookin bicycle helmet on his head?, A skateboarder who wears a bicycle helmet and fruitboots for exercize on his lunch break.

as for the homophobic comments, well, that is merely the childish ranting that we have ALL heard seemingly forever. and it's silly, really.get over it. chances are, more than one of your GOOD freinds is uh, gay.
now as for the AESTHETICS of said enterprises,i find both bikers and rollerbladers to be derivative and thus boring.rather than find their OWN thing, both disciplines have glommed onto skating as their means of validation. secretly, i think that deep down, bladers and bikers are jealous of the fact that learning to skate walls and pools is much harder than what they do.

They are just childish disses on others with no `spect. I would say that when most skateboarders use the tern fruitbooter, they have pics in thier mind of the guy in a speedo at the boardwalk with walkman on doin` his skate/dance.
And the FB`s have a term of their own for skateboarders... wood pushers. Wood, as in a woodie, push it as in masterbating,,,you get the picture.
When kids use the terms, they really aren`t thinking gay, it`s just a term to put down another doing something they wouldn`t.
And when I hear someone say that slalom or longboarding is gay, I quietly inform them on just how serious a fall at speed on asphalt can be and and that no gay person would even attempt it. Then there`s the closer on how I find it "gay" to see a newschooler walking with his board rather than riding it cause what? He might fall and get a boo boo?
Skateboarders RULE !!! And yes, some of those fru...I mean, inliners do to.....

It's funny that as a group skateboarder profess to be "individuals" but when it comes down to it. These individuals are basically like everyone else. Afraid of the unknown. Intolerance seems to be a get them before they get me attitude. I use to work with a guy that professed to be the biggest Bible thumper, quote chapter and verse on any topic person, but when it came down to it he was the most biggetted (sp?) person I have ever met. His insecurities made it impossible for him to see the other side of any topic that he didn't want to.
In my opinion, people are individual entities. And cannot be judged as a group.

Back in the turn of the century, being gay meant being happy. When did the word take on the homosexual meaning?
In the world of boxing, if you "take a walk down queer street" that means you got hit so hard, when you stood up from the canvas and your legs were wobbly, causing you to stagger around.
The world has too much political correctness. Lord forbid if we offend someone.
Remember back in the 70's, before inline skates... people use to roller skate in pools. That looked odd as s#@! (can we say "it looked queer" without offending anyone?) Don't remember roller skaters in pools, go to www.cherryhillskatepark.com and check out some of the movies on the site.
Rollerbladers, skateboarders, Bmx'er all all athletes. It takes skill to do all three, but sorry if I do not hold inliners to such high regards not to call them fruit-booters. I do not mean it as a gay (homosexual) term.
I hope this rant doesn't sound too queer...
BTW, some of my best friends are gay (aka homosexual).

It's funny, but skaters sure can be an intolerant bunch.
We are, in some circles, dispised by certain folks. People pre judge us and have very different notions about what skateboarding is and what it isn't.
My thinking is that there is NO ROOM for intolerance in skateboarding. I think it will take YEARS to undo what has
happened to skateboarding.
Scratch the surface and you will find a great deal of hatred towards gays and women and anyone else out there who doesn't conform...I have heard on a number of occasions "longboarding is so gay..."
Sad.
Still, this is a forum for everyone to express their opinions.
I'd like to hear what other people think.
Bottom line, the worst crap I hear is usually out of people who are 100% posers. They don't care about the soul of skateboarding...they just want to be cool and talk crap.

Maybe because they look "fruity" while they skate and do their tricks. They do alot of ankle grabbing... don't they? Plus they wax everything they skate! (EVIL... EVIL)
IMHO I think they lack style... from the rank beginners to the top pros. Sorry, just my opinion, hey I could be wrong...

Why does it seem acceptable in some skate circles to use terms like "faggy, gay, fruit" as a put down of, in this case, rollerbladers, or others perceived as not having style? It seems outdated and ignorant, yet I keep bumping into it in my reading online, article, interviews with skaters, etc. (See the cover of this months' Concrete Disciples for a prime example) What's up with this?

have at the site, the better....100% skateboarding though...the more variety, the better
as for slalom, come on out to the cummer park this
saturday...we'll set up some cones and let folks try slalom....
the even kicks off at 9am...highest ollie is at 11am
we have $6000+ in prizes and giveaways.
those in the NY, MI, OH areas should also come on down! Hotels are dirt cheap!

I was said photographer... I contacted Michael about submitting some photos from the contest. As luck (the weather) would have it, I could'nt make the first contest in Charles County. The rain date was June 9, I went to Pocono to photograph the Nascar race for another publication.
I did get some good shots from the contest... Michael I will send them to you later this week.
I will try to post one... let's see if it works

Rob Sydia and I are close by and have run cones together a couple times, we could get the 3 of us together, maybe more and do a little racing...we need to start something slalom related in Toronto...what do you think?

Jim Phillips, the legendary artist behind the artwork of Santa Cruz is featured in a five page article in the August issue of CW.
I know that you will be impressed. Jim has a coffee table book coming out very soon.
My question to you is this...
"How would you compare the artwork of Jim Phillips to
what you see today?"
I know this is a loaded question...but that's why it's so much fun to answer.
For me, Jim Phillips is the benchmark that all graphic artists aspire to acheive.
