I figured anything to change the topic...
We had this guy at the cw contest on Saturday who
actually busted a 42'" ollie.
He was pretty tired at that point...but we had him try a 45" ollie ...this would have smashed the world record.
maybe next year....

Its always fascinating to see how Arab can twist people's comments around until he apparently believes that what was said is the complete opposite of what was actually posted...
Arab, just out of curiosity, where did I state that blading was my favorite activity? Or that I've ever even gone blading? Is this just one of your delusions? Or do you just have extremely poor reading comprehension? And equating people's sexual orientation with their choice of sports? I'd love to see the research that supports your statements.
BTW, there's a word for statements like "I think for the GAY club, MSK..." : libel.
4 wheels, 8 wheels, what does it matter to you? If the kids are having fun, that's all that matters. Sorry if you can't relate...

It was a nice sunny day and lots of people were stocked by the event. Mike did a great job keeping the event roling along.
He managed to finnish on time and hand out a lot of swag to everyone. The garbege pick for swag contest was pretty good as well.
Some of you folks will just love the new CW when you see it and the next one is going to be even better. Others may cringe bacause of the fine work put into it. But ehy, that's their problem.
The bladers we're anxious to get to use the park and couldn't wait for the contest to end. Oh and so were the skaters. It's funny with the dislike that people have for bladers, it's about time some of you realise that if blading haden't got popular and gone Extreme (LOL) would there be so many parks being built in the last 10 years?
You guys a going to also like the CW jacket and I'll be wearing mine proudly trying to get the Wave out there.
JG, there wasn't really any room at this particular park to really set-up cones. It' would not of been impossible but a little dangerous as per the Park layout and design. Also quite few people to try get around and narrow pass throughs. Rob Sydia and I sessioned on Sunday morning. We found a few more Slalomers and I think the GRASS is growing in Toronto.
Micheal is was great to see you again and Thanks for the event the mag, the hospitality and especially you're work for the beterment of th SPORT.

I saw something that was pretty interesting regarding the whole blade thing. A pack of kids were going by on very beat-up skateboards and blades. Everything was obviously thrift store hand-me-downs, though they were having too much fun to care. Two kids, no sh*t, were sharing a set of rollerblades. One had on the left and one had on the right. They would push with the other foot, just like a skateboard. These kids are very poor and are so desperate for activity, they wouldn't even understand a blade vs. board argument.
The most interesting thing was when my friend asked them if they would rather the city build them a new basketball court or a new skateboard park, and they all yelled "skateboard park"! All of those kids are black and they pretty much shattered a stereotype. Then again, there are those who are probably thinking, "There goes the neighborhood"

Ohm, you rock. I'm proud to get beat by you, every time...I'll be 44 in August, and I'm not getting slower yet, but it takes alot longer to bounce back after a slam. I didn't intend to diminish your talent, competitivenes, or anything else. Someone brought up how goofy inliners are, and I was just making the point that virtually every pastime I have looks goofy to someone who doesn't do it. Kart racing? my perspective is that they're one step removed from formula cars, they're technologically and physically challenging to race, and the speed is addictive. They require tons of intense work to run at the front of the field, and are relatively expensive. To the man on the street, it looks like a bunch of grown ups playing with their kid's toys.

Being Canadian, I just have to mention that many hockey-players cross-train in the summer months with roller blades. Several hockey players are probably gay (closeted). so what? I would definitely not call them unmanly. I would also like to see all you anti-gay folks spout off your little opinions to Esera Tuaolo's face, NFL linebacker for the Viks. Oh yes, he is very effeminate. Could I also point out that homosexual men and women served and died in the armed forces of the United States in all major conflicts, including WWII, 'Nam, and undoubtedly, the current war? So, Arab, does your patriotism only count for "normal" people, or are you happy they served and died so there are less "gays" out there to cause you personal inconvenience?
Did it also not occur to you that your little anti-gay tirades might be problematic for skateboarders who are young girls and women, many of whom are engaging in an activity that could be seen as suspiciously dyke-y by high school standards? And, so what if they are dykes, after all? does your admirable support of young folks and girls in particular stop at that line? That's pretty sad if it does. Basically, how does where you decide to stick your privates in private affect your ability to skateboard? Maybe if your willy got stuck in a melon or pipe fixture, then *maybe*.
Finally, where I grew up (Langley, B.C.), the only people at my high school headed for a regular ole fag-bashing at the hands of dayton boot-wearing longhairs were--you guessed it--the skateboarders. So I'd think skaters, at least those living through the 80's would step out of the high school "do unto others as was done unto me" grade 8 mentality and identify a bit with what gay men and women have to go through on a daily basis. Of course, SoCal might have been different, and now that skating is now the industry standard of consumable "cool", nooo, no "fags" here.

the contest went off quite nicely...42" highest ollie
2.5" less than the world record.

Arab- I don't own pleated pants. Paul had pleated pants and ...don't call out Paul he is a much faster race than you are..with many Podiums. As for the skating thing....I would be surprised if lots of the older skateboarders here could honestly say that they have never Roller Skated or Ice Skated prior to 1970. Most of us tried it...dropped it...or only do it at contests. Why skate when you can skateboard?
Micheal Brooke- If I knew you were having a slalom event I would have tried to come up. I like Montreal and Toronto. I will get up there next time. Your Mag is more inspiring to people than you know- I don't subscribe to any mags- but in a traditional move..my Dad is getting me a subscription for me for my birthday- it tops my list.

Reality is that most of us only meet here on the site.
So, do me a favor, if you're out today skating, look up at the sky (for most of you, look north)and think of Canadian skategeezer going full out mental trying to change the face of skateboarding on hot summer day....
The times are changing...there is momentum in this is movement...
Wait till you see what is coming...

Gravity.
This DVD is FREAKING INSANE.
Even my wife went "wow."
Sergio Yuppie is one of the most incredible skaters I have
ever seen. It's dizzying watching him.

I think most of us as skaters feel that we're tougher and more individualistic than most other living and breathing human beings....and for the most part, we are.
It's just that I know some seriously sinister people who are WAY harder than any skateboarder I've ever known(or read about) and they don't ever even consider one's sexuality or race or gender, simply because they know their real threats. Everyone else is of no concern.
Besides, I'm sure if any gay bashers lives were on the line and the only person who could save them was a faggot, they'd be gay friendly in a heartbeat.
I'm hardly politically correct. I call my blade friends "fruit booters" and my girlfriend (who's gay) "little faggot" because they're my friends and it's funny and they know I really care about them. But I would never say that to someone I didn't know, who might take it the wrong way.
Don't need to kick out unnecessary vibe. Save it for when you really need it.

Sorry if I'm late in getting my copy of Number 5, but I'm impressed as hell. And I'm SO glad that you've got these things on newsstands...THAT will get things going, even if the kid who buys Trasher picks up a second mag. I love the new look, the binding, and the photos are on-par with the best of the old Skateboarder! I dug the Arab/Chicken interview & photos, too.

I'm a mid pack open rider at best, but I take it as seriously as anyone. I was employing a bit of sarcasm referential to the context of the posts I was referring to. I don't think people look at an outlaw race at the gaithersburg park and ride as they drive by on 270 and say...

I was sort of skewering the self-seriousness with which some people approach the sport. I mean, work out, practice endlessly, travel thousands of miles to races, be a viscious competitor, conquer all...but remember that you're a grownup wiggling through palstic cones on a skateboard.

I was just got too far off in the way back machine. In the 1970's it seemed every kid in the neighborhood met at 3pm outside their house every day to go and skate. To do all types of skateboarding.
I thought about the way skateboarding went and the many ways it might have gone.
