Has anyone ever tried putting a randal DH (35 degress) on the (I think) 15 degress front of a landyachtz Evo to make it 50 degress (like the R-II), then putting a randall R-II base plate (50 degress) and dh hangers on the back (-5 degress) to make it 45 degress? It seems like it would work to even it out, like a dh race if it had R-II's. Or, has anyone ever tried a similar setup with seismics 45 degree on the front, and a 30 degree on the back? if you have any of these trucks please try this! I would, but I don't have an Evo! PLEASE write back!

Lord of the Plies

Given a fixed width and type of wood, the more plies, the more stiffness and weight resistance. So if you are a heavy dude, you are in a 9 or more ply territory. 160 pounds or below should do with 7 plies if you want any flex at all. So the number of plies is not as important as the weight of the rider.

Moska Flex with UpTrucks

I just recieved a Moska Flex III this Weekend. The weather was dry, so I went out for a little testride. The first impression is great! Although it is verry cold (23 F, like -5 Celsius - freezing -) the truck was agile and turny. For higher speed it feels a little to soft. There are no wobbles, but a footbrake is difficult, because as soon as your bodyweight comes out of center just a little, the board turns away from your breaking foot. But for high speed I have another board, anyway. This one will be my carver and cityhopper. The board is verry light and easy to carry. The wheels are faster than my flashbacks and offer an awesome grip. The ride is smooth, due to the soft wheels and the flexy deck. I cut of around 4 mm of the front anti wheel bite device, although I know, that this will void the waranty of the truck. But now I can crank the board more and make even sharper turns. Great board.

Chad, If you want something that arcs nice and can slide as well go for a dropped center of gravity board like the landyachtz Evo or DH Race. The lower center of gravity lets the riding platform "swing" out from under the pivot point, meaning more control. Put some sliding wheels on it and you will be sliding in no time
thats just my two cents yan0

You've opened up a can of worms there Chad. The possibilities are almost endless. But that's half the fun of longboarding, constantly trying out new equipment in search of that "perfect dream board". I'll give you a few suggestions though.
If you're happy with the board you have, and if it's not too beat up, then I don't see any need to replace it. Same goes for the trucks. Unless you are inclined to try out more of a stiff/concave/kicktail elongated pool-style board, like a Gravity Brad Edwards (that's the kind of board I find works best for me personally). But if you're digging the pintail thing, go with it.
One thing you might want to upgrade is your wheels. If you want to slide more easily, I would go with a slightly harder wheel. Shoot for something in the mid 80's for duro. Wheels that immediately come to mind are Krypto Hawaii K's in 86a and Abec 11 Strikers in 84a or 88a, depending on your road surfaces.
But most importantly, do you have slide gloves? I personally use TimeShip Bear Paws and Tracers, but there are more and more companies popping up that sell gloves of all kinds of styles and it's really quite easy to make your own pair. With a good set of sliding gloves, even those soft sticky "70duro" Kryptos of yours will break loose and slide. Slide gloves, if you don't have them already, would dramatically change your riding experience more than any other equipment, in my opinion.
Otherwise, the world is your oyster and you have more choices than ever to choose from.
Another idea is to hold onto your S9 and just add another board, starting a quiver for yourself. You would want the second board to be different in some way than the S9, one that would be better for the slides you seek.
Have you browsed around through the online vendors to see what's available? Anything in particular catch your eye? Building a quiver envolves a lot of trial and error and depends more on personal taste than what's popular.
Good luck.

hey, i'm 15, 6'2",170 lbs, i'm here cuz i have a question. i have had a sector 9 hills bomber for about a year, mabey year and a half.i could not ask for anything more from my first longboard. rides smooth, fast and has great control. ive had a great time on this baby and it will always be my downhill lover, but i'm always looking for new toys n' joys. i need a board that's gonna give me sharper turns,a quicker response, and MUCH BETTER SLIDING ability. the board i have now has randal R-II 180mm trucks, bones red bearings, and 70mm and 70duro krypto wheels, i know its extremely hard if not, impossible to slide with wheels softer than a rubber ball with a rookie like me handlin the board. so with all of your guys knowledge, what is the best board for me. recap, sharp turns, quick response, and sliding powerhouse. i have had superb customer serivice from s-9, but i am totally open to any suggestion about the best board for me, s-9 or from whoever. tell me what size is the best for me too. if it's 27 inches to 46 inches, w/e man. thanks for all the help. believe me, your time is greatly appreciated from this greenhorn. -chad

Let me tell you one thing, the Landy Downhill Race is way better than any pintail you've ever ridden. Except, personally, I would never ride it with 35° Downhill Baseplates, I've ridden mine with them and it is a very very different feeling. Some guys prefer it, but I just don't think you can turn with it like that. It's a very stable board if you're just bombin straight down hills, and is good for some turns but not recommended for a very turny course. If you bought one I would go with Randal RII's or Crail Downhill Trucks and Abec 11 Gumbals. I ride mine like that and it's got to be my favorite set up for that board, and I've done so many different setups its not even funny. Personally though, I think going from a Pintail view-point. I think your best bet on a new board would be like a Drop Race or Drop Speed. Those too are really crazy boards. The Drop Race is almost impossible to come by now, but I know a guy that is lookin to sell his so if you send me an e-mail I can direct you his way. Good luck findin a kick ass new board.
Downhill rules!

Hey Ba,
I'm no expert and I just started longboarding late last summer and this summer I have picked up slalom racing. I would dare say that what makes a good starter board is the trucks and bushing combo. If your looking for a carving board then you need good trucks. I bought cheap and that's what I got, cheap. And it wasn't much fun. I invested in a sector nine board with randal 150's for my husband and I love that board. I found it via internet for about 100 bucks total. Just have to look hard. If you can, buy a good set of trucks to start because it does make a difference. Being able to contol the board with turns makes a difference. And good trucks do that. Just my opinion for what its worth. ggod luck. buy good stuff and you'll be hooked!
