Since I am doofus that can't seen to post pics on here yet try this link to see the North Carolina Chapter (not everyone) of the DownHill Billies skate session from this last Saturday.

Lenny, Dave G, and Wesley T: This is where we are looking to skate the January Jam...check it out and let me know what you think. That middle run is steeper than the pics make out.

You may want to look into a 36" or so GS set-up for campus cruising as well. Pocket Pistols, 3DM and Bahne make them and many others may. Drop a line if you need assistance.

NCL, A search of some old posts might turn up something I wrote about dirt-dog’n or Missouri Dog Boarding or something like that. Off road on a dirtboard with a dog in harness pulling hard. Mushing the flats, jogging up the hills and flying down, with the dog ready to give you a bit of boost when you need it. That’s some DownHill Billie.
I got me a big ol hunk of genetic hillbilly. My truest hillbilly living was what some would call island hippy. Living on St. Croix and working on boats, I went 3 months without putting on a pair of shoes. Finally, cut my foot pretty good on a broken Heineken bottle and bought some flip-flops. (I love the barefoot skate. This could be a big event for the downhill billies – I hope you’ll show up to slalom barefoot – too much focus on cones and time is not good for a hillbilly, ya know.)
I “squatted” on a 68 foot tri named Quick Sliver for a couple of months. We had to sneak on and off so the other boat owners wouldn’t wise up. No power. Left before light and returned after dark. I remember one night partying with some of the itchy fiberglass covered boat rats, drug running pirates and local musicians (there was some overlap in those categories)... I sat down in some fire ants - momentary bummer that was quickly taken care of when I grabbed an upside down 5 gal bucket and made myself at home. We could here the party that was going on close by on a yacht owned by the owner of the Cincinnati Bengals. I remember thinking that there was no way they were having more fun than we were. Trust me on that. I’ve had plenty of exposure to extreme wealth through close friends and work. I’ve partied on yachts and drank champaign in shinny shoes. It’s not bad, but I’d rather build a fire and pick my guitar smoking what I grew and drinking a brew. I think the essence of hillbilly comes down to a tolerance for what others might see as a bit rough, a need for a connection to nature, a fierce independent streak and an ability to derive satisfaction out of the little things in life. A lot of skaters, no doubt fit that description.
I've been riding my board about 10 or 15 minutes a couple of times a week. Almost like not riding at all. But count me in on the team. I'll get it going more again I'm sure. A year and a half of battling injuries has had me picking my guitar instead of riding… some old country… Bill Monroe, Hank Sr., Bob Wills, Willie Nelson, George Jones... add in some Dylan, Stones, Garcia/Grisman, Dead, Neil Young, and a whole lot of Delta Blues (Son House, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Bukka White, Elmore James, Big Bill Broonzy, etc.) Hellyeah.
Oh, and of course, Marion, I’d be honored to serve as the Missouri representitive to such a distinguished organization. I’ve got a mullet wig and 4 sets of billybob teeth. How could I say no.

In light of the awesome jesture made by the great John Dillon to include anyone in Team Fun that has fun when they ride, Membership in the DownHill Billies is being opened to all riders everywhere who ride, have fun, and has said either of the words Y'all, HellYeahhhhhh (yes, that is one word), or dang, at least once in their life! (everyone has a little hill billy in them..they just have to find it!) Ok, Tom Meakin, repeat after me ," Y'all come on over here to Englannnd (long a) and tare (tear) it up wit me...HellYEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Also, drop Lenny or Dave G and e-mail and they will give you great advise on the slalom stuff. That's my new bag as well.
G-Flash:Dude, You can retain all titles, awards, and/or sponsorships by having co-membership in both Team Fun and the DownHill Billies! Dude, you are definitely a DownHill Billy.
Mo-Matt: Dude, I am counting on you being the Missouri Chapter rep for the DownHill Billies! Drop me an e-mail.
www.downhillbillies.org will be up and running hopefully by mid-February. I will let you all know when I need you to send me your pics.

does walmart do international mailorder? lol. I have been thinking quite a lot about what i could get, and a slalom board would be the most useful to have i think, especially as a campus-cruiser type board for when i go to uni next year, a dh board isnt very adept at getting round people lol. Those cones are pretty cheap though, i'm going to have a look on some sites for similar shops to walmart(hmm how about asda, they are owned by walmart), see if i can get some. toodeloo

They sell these great cones at Wall-Mart! They are perfect to start out with and if you hit one they plyable so you can keep on your run and keep your groove onthru till the end. They are located in the sporting goods dept. near the soccer stuff.I think they come 12 to a pack for about 4 bucks. I bought a whole bunch and set them out down my street about 6ft apart and Me,Cuz and they neighborhood kids take turns going down the run. For X-mas I have asked for a digital camera so I can start taking pictures and post on this awsome site for my Bro's and Sista's G-Flash(Bound and determined to make the CW cover soon!)

Lenny: Thanks for the contacts. I copied your list on the email I responded back.
I will touch base with everyone as soon as I have that date confirmed. 15th or 22nd. We are going to call it: The First Meeting of The DownHill Billies! Tell everyone to bring their cameras because we will use the pictures on the new website we are going to put together www.downhillbillies.org. My goal is to have it up and running by mid-February. I will post more info on the planned site later this week. The DownHill Billies is going to be a loose organization of any longboarder, slalomboarder, carver, or skater in any dicipline, who hails from any state that has hills, has riders, and wants to be a part of the org!

Lenny-Dude, I talked with Dave G and were thinking about getting everyone to come here to Statesville and ride some Saturday in January (depending on the weather of course). Wesley Tucker is going to come up from SC. You guys can crash at my house. Our local spot would be perfect for some slalom, carving, and just plain ol fun riding. Nothing real steep or real fast but a fun place to ride with almost no traffic. We also are going to scout some other spots as well. We will be able to set up cones for GS/Hybrid/Tight. The local crew is not into slalom yet but they are all itching to try. We actually did some slow Super G like stuff on Saturday. You WV boys can crash at my house Saturday night. Wife said she will cook us breakfast on Sunday (the woman can cook). There is also a sports bar within walking distance of the house that we can all hit that night. They have good food and cold beer. Check and see which weekend works best for you.
Hope you can make it to the "Statesville Winter Skate Jam". Anyone else on here that is within driving distance that wants to come skate and hang out drop me an e-mail or post yours on here. The skating terrain is all pretty much beginner stuff but fun. Nothing super fast. Top speed for me on the main run has been about 35 mph. That night, anyone that wants to skate uptown on Urban Assault Patrol can break out the street, slide, or longboards and we can ride then too! Or drink beer.....
Dankdownhiller: Look at your calendar and let me know what weekend works best for you with the kids. We are going to get all the local crew out!

Dank Dude! : Missed you being there. Super D, Justin, Holly (Justin's new skater chic), and Rookie came out. Justin brought his still camera and Super D brought the DVD Video. Rookie was the photographer. It was great. Right when we were loading up a herd of deer came through looking at us like, "hey, what you are doing here?" It was hilarious. Sorry you didn't make it....but Asheville rocks. Dude, you should have seen Holly coming down the back stretch on the Green Latern. I have the Gumballs on there now and well, let's just say, Rookie was filming thinking she was going to bust the whole way but she maintained. Justin was coming down behind her on his monster board and I could tell he was afraid she was going to splat. We got the cones out and set up a Super G down the backstretch and Super D and I put the Bozi's through their paces. We then set up a tight and I broke out the Attilla Response. Rookie got some footage and Justin snaps some pics. I haven't seen any of them yet but Justin left a message on my phone saying they turned out sweet. We bombed the center run as well and got vid of that. We tried to come down together for the vid but I was behind Justin and wasn't paying attention and busted. It was pretty funny. It is going to have to warm up now to ride but hopefully we can get the crew together soon. Call me when you get a chance. Got to tell you about the new crew name and website we are kicking around.

John D, please pass mine and Jenny's congrats to LBK. They don't make them much cooler than that family.
NCL, we've gotten a good dusting, and some cold temps (weather.com was calling for -6 tonight), but not too much of the white stuff yet. Over in Dave G's neck o' the woods, there's plenty though!

Thanks for the thoughts on Dad. He is in rehab for a couple of weeks but seems to be doing good. He wants out of that place...his quote "There's a bunch of old people on here." He's 78! I laughed so hard....
