A good way to test Brock is to put the material, in this case Hockey puck, down on the surface you're gonna ride. Put some bodyweight onto it (foot or hand) and if it slides easy its a winner. If it grabs or sticks to the road you can seriously hurt yourself pullin up a slide. Stick with good old chopboard plastics cause they have good abrasive resistance. If you want a more exotic plastic try and find where you can gets some U.H.M.W. Apparently this stuff lasts for ages. Can be pricey though.

Grade 8 is better than grade 5. but if you need to replace your kingpin because you've broken it, I suggest you find your nearest Fastener supply store and get yourself a "high tensile" 3/8" U.N.F. bolt.
They usually look matt black. If they're shiny silver that usually means they're zinc coated. Much poorer grade steel. Don't ever let anyone tell you anything thats zinc plated is high tensile steel. Zinc plating makes high tensile steel go brittle and snap real easy.
Measure the length you need (without measuring the head) and thats exactly what you ask em for.
Eg. 3/8" x 2-1/2" U.N.F. High Tensile Hex Head Bolt.
Suss out where the nearest industrial area is near you (eg. engineering workshops, toolrooms, etc.) cause there's almost always an industrial supplier near them to pick up the business.
Hardware stores don't often supply the good quality steel bolts and when they do it's normally overpriced. However not every fastener store is going to want to sell just 1 bolt. Sometimes they have a min purchase limit. If so grab some 5/16" U.N.F. Nyloc nuts (wheelnuts) for your axles. They wear out pretty quick if you change your wheels alot.

This may be a long shot, but I'm looking for brakeboard trucks. (www.brakeboard.com) I know that they ran out of stock and haven't found a new production facility, but I'm hoping there are still enough floating around out there that I can get some. I've seen skatebrake.com's product, but it just seems a little too... toyish? Although if I can't get the brakeboard trucks then I may have to go with the skatebrake...
Does anyone have a set of brakeboards that they'd be willing to part with? I'm willing to work out a seller-friendly deal if you've got 'em. Shoot me an email if you're interested.

Got the Ollieboard with Ollieblocks from Flowlab. It was sitting in the trunk of my car for the past several weeks and today I brought it into my office so my 6 year old son could mess around with it. He is much more interested in riding my vintage skates around on the carpet though so I decided to give it a try. Picture a 40 year old Naval Officer wearing a khaki uniform and black leather shoes...well I tried it out and it worked! I actually got the rear "truck" to move off of the ground; not much but maybe a couple of inches on my first try. I don't ever see myself jumping fire hydrants but I have high hopes of at least being able to pop up onto a sidewalk someday....

The E glide claims it's top speed is 20-22? My Exkate goes a little faster by a mile per hour or two and Nick rides it once in a while. It is too fast for him and too big for him to turn.
While the E might be fun for you, I'd fear for the kids.
Exkate is coming out with a couple of kids boards. I just bought the larger, faster, 10 mph? model for Nick for Christmas off ebay for way cheaper than retail, something like $135 with the shipping. I would not reccomend the smallest red model. It has a weird remote and the price difference doesn't make sense.

Thanks HC. I'll give it a try once I get the ollie board and see how it goes. Since I only paid $10 for it vice the $35 price on the flolab website, I won't mind too much if it doesn't work. At a minimum, it will be a good conversation piece in my office along with the 5 boards from the 1970s that occupy one wall. As often as I have tried to ollie on a regular board, and have been completely unsuccessful, I am not holding out too much hope at this point but we'll see how it goes.
Had a great skate at the Nashua NH skatepark yesterday. Not too many nice days left this season but it was unseasonably warm yesterday. Great concrete park if anyone is interested.

happy friday everyone.
I've been too stuborn to go out and buy a good quality pair of knee pads. Instead I've just been thrashing through crummy pairs constantly and my knees are paying for it. So, its time to invest. What do you recommend for general use, DH/slidin/park?
