I e-mailed with the beer city guys and they said that everything they make is done in-house. I gave one of their short-boards to a friend of mine for Christmas and I recommend them to anyone who shortboards.

HerbN has apoint. ITs like skateboards, there are maybe a dozen or more compaines that make all short boards. THey just send em off to compaines that throw thier name on the board. SUre they got different spec's but made by the same people. Snowboards do the same thing.
I want a grip tape machine. That would rule

As a shop owner/skater i'm always interested in superior products, although it's been my experience that very few labled products, you don't actually think the folks at beercity have a griptape making machine and make it for just themselves?. They just buy the grip in bulk and pack it or have it branded i.e shorties printed all over the back of the wax paper.I'll check it out but i'm usually kind of negative about this sort of thing.

Hey fans of very grippy grip tape, Yes, the quality of grip tape has gone down the toilet. Does anyone know if the Beer City grip is the stuff that comes with the Dregs race board? Because, it was kinda funny, my friend has one too and he goes "The best thing avbout these boards is the grip tape. I'd want a roll of it even if I didn't skate, it's so cool." And it is pretty grippy stuff, I love it.

I can't remember if it was exactly clear Kaylee, but on my S.C. Rob Roskopp I had this tape that was a real pale blue (maybe somewhat clear) and man it would cut like nails....don't think I ever wore it out, just sold the board or something.........

Do any of you oldschoolers out there remember when clear grip tape would make you bleed when you grabbed your board? Do you miss this gnarly-ass kind of grip? Beer City makes the best grip tape today, hands down. Their regular grip is grittier than any other grip I have found in the past 8 years, and the clear makes the regular seem like Roofies (i.e. crapola). Check it out if you like your feet to stick to your deck. Laters.

Got my hands on the Gravity Team Travels this weekend. If you've seen other Gravity video's, you get more of the same. Excellent, excellent video of some serious high performance park & ramp skating on the 39" to 42" boards. But again no street skating at all. No downhill, no slides, no carving. The footage of the contest at Kona is great, especially Budro!! Maybe next time out Gravity will include some carving&sliding. Dave

Hey Mark,
Great idea on the 10x diameter...
One word of caution would be on screwing the magnet into the wheel... keep a good eye on it for splitting... It would end up being a post in the crashing section if it comes apart on you! Be aware and careful... HR

I got this Avocet 35 bike computer for my birthday and decided to give it a try on my skateboard. It is adjustable for rolling circumfence for your wheel. What you do is set it a 10x your wheel diamiter and just remember to move the decimal point over 1 place when you read it (when it says 126.5 you are going 12.5 mph, etc.) The magnet part is a ring that I screwed it to the axel side of my super g 72mm wheel with small pointy screws right into the urethane. It seems to work and is a-lot of fun.

Scomo, I don't really know where you can rent that movie, but I have seen more than a few copies for auction on e-bay. For really cheap too. That is a cool movie, but like you said, very cheesy. There is a part when he first arrives to hes buddie's house, and they all are sitting on the new half-pipe. While they are chatting, you can acctually see a microphone come into the frame! it's on the top and it's only there for a sec, but my goodness, me and my friends laughed for a while after seeing that!

The downhill rider in "Thrashin" is Rich Dunlap. He was also featured in "Gleaming the Cube" and "Future Primitive". To my knowledge he doesn't skate anymore. Stacy set him up with the roles in the above mentioned movies and video. He used to be my roomate in Berkeley, CA in the early 80s. He is now an Architect I believe and lives in Sausalito, CA. anyway thats where he was the last time I saw him.

anyone know where i can rent the movie thrashin? it's an 80s movie i saw on tv a while ago. it is basically a cheesy and stupid love story(romeo and juliet style), but it has some cool downhill racing, sliding and crashing on 80s shortboards. i didn't see all of it and i was hoping i could, but it isn't carried in any video store around me.

I have updated my pages with the instructions on how to set-up and calibrate the gravity speed computer. As soon as I figure out how to use all of the functions, I will post those too.
Feel free to e-mail me with any additional questions and together we can hopefully figure them out... HR

Ali, What I have done so far is to use much smaller more powerful magnets. The picture I posted is actually 2 magnets stacked. It seems to work fine with one, so I removed the extra.
I picked up some very tiny "rare earth" mags from Radio Shack today that I will also try.
I am considering the counter-weight on the oppossing side to the magnet. Still haven't figured out how to test the balance without mounting the wheel on a lathe or like machine. (I am feeling lazy after a long day at work, so I will think about it tommorow) HR

Hugh, have you considered balancing the wheel by inserting non-magnetic pieces of metal, of the same weight of course, into the other holes of the core, thus creating a heavier, but balanced wheel. Of course you need to do this to the other wheels as well, to keep things really balanced... Good luck!

I considered mounting the pick-up on the hanger for just the reasons that you said. I chose the deck as a test. I may end up moving it. I would end up using zip tys and RTV (I love that stuff!) This paticular set up is really just a bomber. I do minimal turning on it (personal skill deficiancy!)
What I did notice is that with stronger magnets you can have the gap be more than 1/2" and still get a good reading. I will probably order some "rare earth" type mags and try those out. I believe that they are quite a bit stronger and smaller than standard ones. I would suggest against using the flat tape-backed type. They don't seem to have enough pull.
My concern with the large magnet that came with the unit is that it will really cause the wheel to be off balance. I will be able to test this at the next dump ride.
Hopefully in a day or two, I will have the easy-to-follow instructions posted... HR

Hey hugh, I look forward to finding out how to adjust my gravspeeedo for different size wheels.
I saw that you mounted yours on the edge of your deck, seems like it might stop working when you carve. I have mine mounted on the truck hangar so it will read no matter what.

I have received the Gravity speedo from Solidskate.com and have installed it on one of my decks. It took some doing since its design is for a completly different set up than what I am using.
This is a quality little unit that seems to be rugged and works well. The only real draw back is the instructions. They really stink!!! They leave out a few key steps that are necessary to get an accurate set-up.
I have posted some installation pictures on my site and am in the process of re-writing the instructions. I will post a step-by-step easy to understand (I hope) walk-through on how to set-up, calibrate, and use this unit... HR
