Perry,
I have a friend who sells safety equipment, and he's looking into getting some from the manufacturers that he works with. The only problem is that I have a feeling that the companies that he works with are going to have large "stop traffic" cones, not small ones that are going to be easily knocked to the side by a speeding skateboard. What I was thinking would work well are those small 8 inch megaphones that they give out/sell at football games. If you go to Alta Vista, www.altavista.com and search for megaphones, you'll find at least a half a dozen companies in the first 20 hits that sell these. The prices seem a bit high to me but that is for ones that have a logo printed on them. You might be able to find a company that will sell them to you blank. Or maybe it might be worthwhile to order them with the GRA logo on them. The thing with this is that the more you order the cheaper they are. The prices run about $1.16 each for 100, $0.83 each for 250, or $0.78 for 1000, plus screen charges. You might also be able to find better prices if you searched around a bit more. I wouldn't mind having some about 20-30 for myself for practice, and I'm sure there are others like me. If we got enough people together, we could order enough to keep the prices down. Let me know what you think and if anyone else is interested, post a message here or e-mail me or Perry.

Or ask one of your female friends to give you her old platform sandals when she's done using them or when they become "lastweek." Then you could probably adhere them to some cheapo shoes (Payless Eastsides! I love mine.) to use as gigantic brakes that'd last for a three miles of scraping. Or you could extend the strap part of the sandal so it would fit over your shoe in the same way it would fit over a foot. (the kind of sandal without the thing that goes between the toes) steve

Herb has a good idea. Some type of rubber(tire) pieces adhered to fit the bottom of your sneaker sole. maybe the rubber and shoe can be drilled then the rubber can be mounted ti the shoe with t nuts that are counter sunk. When you hear the metal scrape then it would be time to replace the rubber piece.

How about some sort of shoe cover made from something you can find for free ,like an old car tire? I don't luge but it could be workable.

Davey,
If you find any shoes that wear better, post it here. I tend to go through shoes pretty fast too. I drag my heel and toe on kickturns for control and to stop at low speeds. The only thing I've found that works is buying cheap shoes. Cheap Payless Shoe Store skate shoes wear out only a bit faster than Vans at half the price.
Good luck,
Chris

How about somebody making shoes for braking. Not for downhill but for city ridin'. I love flyin thru pittsburgh, but hell, ther are intersections.......and when I come to one I try to stop. If you drag your foot a few times your shoes are done. We need durable shoes........Instead of ollie pads how about brake pads ( pardon the pun)on our shoes. I don't know. later.

I made 3 complete sets of UHMW slider pads ready to lace and Shoe Goo in place on any set of work gloves, a complete set is; 2 finger blocks ,2 palm sections, and 2 cuff protectors, these are the smoothest best production glove plates yet. I promised one pair of gloves to Rodney at ZooYork. As a glove kit they would sell for twenty bucks if youve never seen Shoe Goo I have that at my store for 6 bucks. These pads will NEVER wear out, and if correctly laced and glued onto a set of quality gloves, should never tear out. I'm going to keep working on them and anyone interested in buying a set ,e-mail or phone me 2013589040

hi guys who are loking for sliding gloves, i know different ways to make them, first you need cheap leather gloves, i found good ones in US at about 7.5$, then you have to find epoxy resin, pieces of hard wood or ptex (old ski or snowboards base). If you choose the resin solution, mix it with little stones and put it in a 2" diameter little container and apply you glove on the resin resin container until the complete drying. For the P-tex, polyethylene ski or snowboard base it is one of my favorite choices, but the problem is to fix it to the glove ! A good solution also named in europe the swiss style, is to screw pieces of hard wood on the gloves,it's easy to replace and it smells better than the resin when it's burning... Good luck and big slides !

I had this stuff on one board, a Powell Jay Smith 6ply with fiberglass at the time I was a pretty serious ramp head with limited access to ramps so I would play street skater with my Santa Cruz street skate and breakout with my big boards whenever I got to a ramp. The point of this was supposed to be that Bearfoot grip was the best grip, it was black tight grained grip that was very sharp but not jagged like pizza deck, how was ick deck I heard about it but never saw it much less skated it , maybe Bearfoot is still around it looked just like coarse diamond grit industrial wet/dry belt sander stock, hey maybe they're still around just not in skating,I'll look around and check back ,late

I used to make riserpads for World Industries ,they needed a "shocking "name so they called them "bedpans",I designed and made by hand the first few thousand of these risers then had a mold made which got modified as risers shrunk. Well anyway I called them pyramidal risers and I had a version that had an extension towards the front and a second piece of UHMW screwed into it ,the screws were ground off flush with the riser and never ment to be taken apart, just wedge the truck in, stick the bolts through and you had one tough laper, I may still have some and if enough people ask I'd even be able to dig up the tooling and make new ones.
