about the landy DH, I have one and my buddy has the evo, they have a realy similiar feel, the DH has a concave deck and it feels kinda weird when you carve because of the feet positioning, but it is the sickest board i have ever owned! and if you never rode a heavy duty downhill board before, dont get too confident on your first time,when i was 14 i nearly killed my self, i opened it once it was delivered and i rode it down my hill, its about a mile and a half, and wiped out, at least it doesnt get speed wobbles! HAHA but its a great board and it is fast as hell. dont get the 97mm abecs cause they are too big and they wear down. the biggest i would get are the 90s and the randall 2s or the dh are both great trucks. wear a helmet!

Wheel size does make a difference, a small one at that, but it is a tangible difference. My to highest speeds were on 2 opposing wheels, first time was on 97s and 2nd time was on S9 Goddess wheels. Both times I busted through past 62 mph.
I think that the big wheels aren't really neccesary, your tuck and how steady and straight a line you can hold is far more important. 76mm is about as big as you need to go.

I am not positive on this one, on my carve board I had some flashbacks and replaced them with 85mm kryptobice for fun, I thought it would be loads faster, but I couldn't even get going on some hills, my theory is that its because it makes my board higher making it more unstable, becuase it was really unstable, when usually i can bomb any hill. Another possibility is that the flashbacks are alot wider and have a bigger contact patch, so they are more stable.

You can definitly tell your step dad that he is dead wrong, the size of the wheel makes a huse difference in the way the board rides. A larger wheel will have more mass and have a alot more inertia, it won't accelerate as fast, but will roll faster and alot longer on a steep hill. A great example of this is when my friend and I bomb this hill in a local park, he has light 76mm sector nine wheels, and I have big heavy 83mm flywheels, the hill is very short and steep, and the top where it is flat we both push as fast as we can, and get in a tuck for the hill, he is way ahead because his light smaller wheels are easier to push and accelerate faster. But after the hill when it is very slightly downhill, I am going almost 10 mph faster than him, and retain my speed alot longer.

I've done a pendulum slide to slow down at around 45-50 mph. Problematic when a car comes around a curve unexpectedly and you only have X amount of room to slow down!

Slidng faster is easier, because yor wheels just flow like butter but if you slow down too fast youll loose control

H#$% NO!? at least not me at 50 mph,
but i've gotten too much speed from distractions rather than paying attention to how fast i'd gotten and slid at 30mph+, which for me is fast.
fast slides are the same as slow ones, yet are much slower, smoother - very fun, "oh my guawd i made it" kinda feeling.
never hesitate is what Chris Chaput told me and he's TheMan, so i thankfully listen.
it was scary and easy - a mind game of fear vs. need.
if you've ever skated a huge vert ramp it's the same comparison as to a mini-ramp.
but if you zoom, you need to be able to stop for emergancies or you may be zooming into the intensive care unit.
been there, done that.

I was riding a Landyachtz Carbon Evo, Landyachtz prototype hangers, 97mm Flywheels.
I was rocking a moto-x helmet, my classic green leathers, and of course, my green shoes.
The hill was Cypress Mountain Road, which is 13 km long, has 5 hairpins, and is FAST, with chunky old pavement. It's definitely my favorite hill in Vancouver.
