There was way too much going on this week. I thought I could do a quick post about the past few days but, well here's just a quick snap the Turkey blurs. I rode parking garages with a crew that can only be thought of as solid bro's. Seriously trying to describe our crew that night is tough, just solid. On Thanksgiving I was alone for the first time in 5 years. My depression and just how I got there/here/now still looms and made some calls. Thank you for my friends and family for helping me through everyday. While hanging in the skateshop (Park Hill Skates stop by) Rick Kludy walks in. Perfect timing, Rick has a way of brightening a room. So we got to talking racing like we usually do and for those of you who don't know this forum was once "Kludy On Speed". We shared some ideas for the upcoming race in on Sunday. I don't like to close the shop and especially now during the holidays but my issues seemed to be easier when talking skateboard racing. What if I got to race? Maybe even more resolution? While giving Rick the LD on the DL he told he he couldn't race because he didn't have a board. While sitting he my skateshop, he said he didn't have a board. I set him up with a Joshua Weisfield creation I road in Europe that had a Kludyville sticker already on it. Easy enough. I saw the post for a run what you brung event, unlimited downhill design drag racing on Overlook. A perfect scenario for Kerry Dunn and SkunTech. Kerry got to work on my set up with only 48 hours to complete, whatever the hell it was going to be. Now I helped til midnight both nights but he was cutting metal and curing carbon til the sun came up. On the final morning before the event he ad an issue with the tail cone and head create a new one. The clock was ticking and I couldn't keep Rick or I from being on the hill in time for the noon start. We left for Overlook hoping Kerry could finish assemble and haul ass to the hill before my heat. We actually asked Maytum the race organizer to put me in the last heat because my board was enroute. Pretty funny stuff going on at the hill. SOOOOOO Kerry rolls up just in time with this 5'7" Gila Monster looking carbon fiber crafeted thing with a huge steel weight on the bottom. Big wheels and just crazy looking. My first test run on thing is my first race heat with World Champion Jason Mitchell, RACER X! The way Maytum set the start the kick line was short and made the push a great factor. My board didn't like to be pushed and on this first race test run it felt like it didn't want me standing on it. I lost to Jason in the first round and went to the losers side of the page in this double elimination format. As I figured out how to ride this thing and with Kerry's help making adjustment after each run I started winning heats. Now I almost crashed a couple time and every kick was heavy but I advanced top the top 20 only to face...Jason Mitchell! Jason and I stepped over the line each had a photo finish no one could call and rock paper scissored for lane choice. It was a hooot! he won. So yeah too much to tell you about with Kludy, Kerry, Jason, Maytum (who put on a hell of show utilizing Calvin Staub and Justin Rouloe to help him out, World Class Outlaw) My bros showed up and we had a blast. I gotta wrap this up and go do some chores. Thank you guys for making me smile.

Sure by the time you read this, you'll be here only because your search engine found this while your seeking 2014 info. Well The Boys From Brasile held on to their title and Kyle Wester held on to fourth! William Royce took a spill at 70mph and seems healthy enough to post the video on the net (I've never tried to post a video on this site and I'm getting a headache thinking about it). All the info and results are on the IGSA website. Most of the downhill scene is slowing for winter and everybody is looking forward to getting through the holidays and then onto Puerto Rico in January. Over the last couple years many of the international riders having been heading to the Guajataka Downhill for warmer temps to skate. The race has had some organizational issues and crowd problems so this year should be interesting when even more people show up.

Teutonia this weekend!

This weekend the World's fastest skateboard race will be taking place in Teutonia Brazil. Over the years the race has been well documented and there's plenty of footage out there. Riders shoes flying through the air after the hit the straw bales at 75mph. Riders praying before their run down the steep breathtaking hill that's as smooth as a cheese grater. The hill demands so much and to find a line over the bumps and cracks while trying to draft and make a pass before the finish might require some prayers. Over the years the larger riders seem to do well here. Weight that might give a faster trip? Leg strength? Height, perhaps a longer torsos gives a better airflow? And aerolids don't seem to change the podium position looking at the past results. The battle between K-Rimes and Dalua has always been fun to watch and they have an uncommon friendship when it comes to racing. They have respect for each other like brothers and have added their story to the mystique of racing Tuetonia. Though either Kevin or Douglas have the experience to make it to the top of the podium new riders have begun to make a name for themselves. This black snake of pavement in the jungle of Brasile is now being tamed by riders who have no fear of it's venom (drink Maytum). Last year Kyle Wester won Teutonia handily with the other rider crashing high on the hill. Kyle told me he knew he was going to win because of the demeanor of the rider he faced in the finals. Kyle who was happy to be in the finals just smiled all the way to the starting line which got inside the other kids head. Frustrated with Kyle's giddiness the other rider crashed by pushing it to hard in the early turns. Kyle went on to fly down the hill alone and onto the top of the podium. What's it like to be an American on top of the podium at one of the biggest races in the World? Well apparently if your from Brazil you're pissed! On his way to the podium hay bales and bottle were flung at Kyle. The footage of Kyle trying to accept his trophy for having just done what few will ever do is sad. Not all of his co competitors were upset and not every Brazilian was throwing things, in fact many riders on hand apologized for the vulgar display of sportsmanship. So what happened last weekend in Brasile? The riders have a series of events leading up to Tuetonia and William Royce placed first at last weekends event. William is an incredibly talented rider (that's why he won) who is also a kind soul and very nice young man. Really cool kid like him a lot his attitude is top notch. On his way to the podium several people through large bales of hay at him, pulled his hair and eventually dumped something over him. Other racers began shielding him so he could stand at the top of HIS podium to show them who just beat their ass on their own hill. When I was in Brasile I had to watch my mouth because I was pasty white and nobody liked Americans because our president was killing people around the globe for oil (and I was a bit of a loudmouth.) The achievements of Kyle and Will are great and are to be regarded like all top athletes who work hard at spreading the joy of riding skateboards faster than my car can go. I have friends all over Brazil and hope to someday go back because of the love the Brazilians showed me. The few bad people I would like to think were drunk, maybe had sand in their underwear or just have some sorta weird Tourettes hay throwing disability. Kyle and William are in Tuetonia as I type this and I hope they are watching each others back and paying close attention to the surroundings. It would be the absolute, "Oh my god that just happened" moment to see them finish one and two somehow. Then the race would be to get out alive! GO GET EM BOYS!

I hear constantly on how I should run my skate shop and hear all the misconceptions about what I'm doing. People have asked how I can have a downhill specific shop with no hills. Spoiler alert, I have been cranking out short boards. I don't have everything to appease every skater and probably never will. What I do have are beginner boards. My market seems to be kids who are buying their first skateboard. I sold 2 kids their first boards today. Do you remember your first skateboard? I do. To be part of a child's life and potentially their memories of skateboarding is almost rewarding enough to forget about the shop surviving. The kids who's boards I assembled today had such a desire to roll away from the shop and down this new skateboarding path I was part of. Support my local skateshop! Skate and enjoy.

This weekend...Slalom Championships, Broadway Bomb, Columbia, Ohio and outlaws abound. There was a time when you had to wait months for one race and now It's tough to decide where to go. My choices are easy...working in the shop!
I've done the BOMB and the slogan of that race is "you could die". I hit a cab, rolled over the trunk and met my board on the other side and kept going. supa fun!
I got a shiny trophy from Ohio once.

Huey’s Colorado experience before Buffalo Bill
May 6, 2011 in Travel Diaries by Jon Huey
While the skate bus chugs along threw the mountains to get to Colorado, I have been living it up since my arrival at the Denver International Airport on Wednesday afternoon. We’re all coming to Denver of course for the Buffalo Bill Downhill race. I got here a little early to have some fun and experience Colorado!
Rob McKendry picked me up and his parter had dinner ready for us. Food was scarfed in anticipation of some fun times at a Flogging Molly concert. I recieved backstage access and treated as friends with the band backstage.
Flogging Molly in Colorado Springs
The accordian player is Matt Hensley, an OG pro skater. I got to meet him back stage because my friends new him. It was a great time conversing about limited edition boards, skateboarding, music, and the east coast.

This will be the 5th year for the Cathlamet Downhill Corral and with all the new disciplines added over the years a new event name may be in order. The downhill was always been the big draw but after the addition of boardercross and BIG air the riders need to pick just how they would like to abuse themselves. The 7.5 mile push race should give you rubber legs just thinking about it. The slalom events have been drawing more and more skaters every year. World Cup Slalom racer and course designer Skip Marcotte sets up the "Sidewalk Challenge" taking the skaters to the edge of every cone. I have been the announcer every year for the downhill and have been able to witness the greatest skaters in the world battle right to the finish. The winners of the past years are some of the best riders on the planet. Switzer, Kelly, Tounge, and Martin have all won at Cathlamet. Looking at who they beat to get there makes their victories even more impressive. Cathlamet is now a destination race with multiple events attracting the best skaters in the world. This event is a giant lovefest between the skaters, towns people and organizers that is an example for other events to aspire to. I can't say enough about how this event has done for skateboarding, longboarding and so many other aspects of peoples lives. Some of us only get to see each other once a year at Cathlamet. We catch up, laugh, share about the last year of our lives and can't wait to see each other next year for Cathlamet 6. Don't miss your chance to be part of this amazing event and see how it will change your outlook on skateboarding, life and friendship.

I have lost another friend. I am sleeping on a cot. I scare the children at the local pool when I show up to swim because it's the means I have to bathe. I don't have the tools to eat very well because the kitchen for a skater is the dirty nuker at the M T Mart. I have to clean my bloody shins in the sink at the same gas station the whores use between tricks. PBR tastes really good. My heal is black from posting it first hard off a launch ramp. Dropped in for the first time in 30 years and it was like my first kiss. I new opening a shop meant being more than a speed boarder. I had to become a skater and I now realize how I underestimated the conviction. Skaters are like no others. Having the warm fuzzies again over just what the paint brush under my feet wants to paint makes the hygene issue laughable. I want to save my pennies for 4x8's. I own a trowel and look forward to doing some late night repairs to the parking lot in front of the shop. (Park Hill Skates Denver). So I can't put into words how good it feels to have a bruised heel and still look forward to hitting the park at sunrise so I can kiss her again. I turn 43 Tuesday.

The 'ole ncdsa has always been a great soapbox and now that I'm older and angrier I can really shake my fist, til the arthritis kicks in. SSSOOOO much racing going on! Australia, Canada, Cali, Colo speedboarding has taken off the way we thought it would or didn't want it to. More and more newbs noobs are showing up and announcing outlaws or finding new hills but unfortunately some of these folks don't have experience with these ventures. I happen to show up at what was to be a closed road event to show the local authorities what speedboarding looks like. This meeting turned into "no closed road" and me standing next to kids arguing why the should be allowed to skate a sandy, fast, s#@!ty road open to traffic with a pot hole crew repairing winter damage. I left my house to go to this non closed road event at 5:30 am I don't want to bash the people trying to pull this event off but...get your act together before you invite riders who travel the world to do this. Maybe time for somebody to steal Lott's "Street luge survival guide" and create the "Stand up survival guide" teaching noobs how to not get busted and when you do how to conduct yourself. Maybe the importance of helmets, how to hitchhike, where not to stand. that kinda stuff... ParkHillSkates is humming along and I hope to see my skate peeps in here to share stories of the road. Stop by the shop to get the scoop on what high altitude roads are ready. There is heaps of fresh pavement going down in the rockies. See you at the hill. Hope to get a private Pikes Peak run in this week!

Spring is here and it's good to get out to the garden but don't work the wet soil. The Spring Season is also a good time to replace your pillows. Downhill skateboarding is another great rite of Spring. The hill is sandy so stay in your lane and take the inside. Lil wet at the uphill run out. The pillar turn is sandy and wet. Go skate

I still don't know how to resize and add photos to this site but now I can update from my phone while at work! Technology rulz. So I was skating around with a grip of fliers and some tape hoodie down sticking em up where the cool artsy kids hang out. Fun stuff. Most bars would say "we don't hang fliers unless it's something goin on here" understandable. Once they here what the fundraiser is for and it involves skateboarding not one bar or unsuspecting light post has said "no". So check out Park Hill Skates on Facecrack and more on the Get A Grip Fundraiser to benefit Aurora Rise. If you like to make skate related or art that relates to other things, you should contact me. Been catching up with Thrasher's KOTR and a challenge is to focus another skaters board if they are wearing helmets and pads. Thrasher's checklist of things to do is break a kids board in half if they are wearing full pads. Skaters that most kids look up to in the mag travel around to different skateparks breaking other kids boards if they have a helmet on. HAHA! RIDE Channel has a current episode of Skateline that bashes a kid with vulgarity for wearing a helmet."Damn (Nword)if you weren't wearing that girly ass snowcone helmet that trick would have been so much cleaner". These are clips from this week. Kudos to Michael Brooke and the Helmet Awareness article in the current Concrete Wave. There's a great video of Tommy Carrol (blind kid) who says he wouldn't be able to skate without a helmet and pads. Just makes sense, he's blind. I know I'm old and things make me angry like your dog on your lap while your texting and driving, that's me. To neglect wearing a lid is your choice, cool. To promote the idea that people with helmets are to be ridiculed is terrible. I would be dead after hitting my head the way I did this summer. I have friends who are messed up forever for not wearing a helmet. I can't see people ever again who died from not wearing a helmet. I never thought Thrasher would promote helmets are for losers.
