WHAT! No start ramps???
On 4/11/2011 Pat Chewning wrote in from United States  (67.88.nnn.nnn)

My favorite part of a race is hauling start ramps around, setting them up, and tearing them down. Plus they are so beginner-friendly and don't draw a lot of attention...

Also I love a nice steep start ramp with a fresh coating of rain mist to add some excitement to the race.

BBQ's - n - NO Start Ramps
On 4/9/2011 Pauliwog wrote in from United States  (38.103.nnn.nnn)

Ummm, basically no, since I don't have them and even if I did, I would'nt have a way to bring them, plus I would encourage people to NOT bring them if you have them because that might be more of a "negative-attention-getter" that I don't want since this is an "unscheduled drop-in use of recreation facilities", start ramps will make it look like an "event" which means #1-prior approval and scheduling, and #2-big insurance coverage for and "event".

Stay tuned to www.weather.com and here, and the Slalom forum for updates on the BBQ "Go" or "No go" status.

Thanks - The Management

Texas vs. Salem
On 4/3/2011 Stryker wrote in from (50.46.nnn.nnn)

Thanks for the congrats guys....

I think that both hills are great for slalom races.

Texas is a little faster and feels more narrow because of the gaurd rails.Plus it a brand new facility with a concession stand and even grandstands.

Salem is one of my personal favorite slalom race locations. So centeralized in the city and great vibe being in the Park.

In my opinion anyone who gets a chance to race on either hill is in for a treat.

Way to go John!

Can you give a comparison of the Texas Sizzler Soap Box Derby Hill to Salem?

I've had a few inquiries and since I've not been to the Texas hill....

Skate'n
On 3/5/2011 Paulskiivoxg wrote in from United States  (38.103.nnn.nnn)

Yeah, skate'n, as in, hopefully I'll get to go ride my skateboard, as in, maybe my slalom board and cones downtown at the riverfront walkway or my park board at the skatepark nearby, or, as in, both slalom and park in the same day in the same outing. Maybe, as in, possibly if the weather has a dry spell long enough to go do it, as in, hopefully not getting "rained out" as the kids say. OK, so that's about all I have for now at this point.

Oh, and Happy Birthday to Dan-O!

Mosier/Tabor
On 2/28/2011 Paul Steiger wrote in from United States  (66.189.nnn.nnn)

Mosier or Tabor good by me also. Since Mosier is not available on weekends, the early weekday tie in to the State Games and Maryhill would be hard but nice. Don't know about the availability for Tabor, but probably wouldn't need to try to cram it into Pat's weekend.
Bottom line is a few more opportunities, especially GS, would be great for 2011.

Wat I'm sayin is 2 teams to set it up
On 2/26/2011 Paul Steiger wrote in from United States  (66.189.nnn.nnn)

No doubt, Pat. A few miles indeed. Friday or Monday ain't gonna do it.
Day in between, Monday, Race Tuesday. Not easy, but a few of us get the hill ready while you and a few get Salem squared. Polliwog sets the course Monday and Tuesday we ride!!!!
Mosier....80 miles, it's a hop skip and jump! Fukin Mosier!
Our scene is dead... lets get it done. Mark/Judy, Cory, Brad, Stryker.... Mosier is what Goldendale is to the bombers.
Winter Blues in my head. Hallucinatory for sure.

Ummm, Mosier is about 80-90 miles from Salem where the rest of the event is. Not that I'm saying anything by that, but you know, uh like, um, just say'in.

Mosier in 2011?
On 2/26/2011 Paul Steiger wrote in from United States  (66.189.nnn.nnn)

I see the Oregon State Games schedule has been added to Slalomskateboarder.com.
Any chance we could tie a Friday or Monday GS at Mosier to this? If it's a Monday, we may get some Maryhill Festival of Speed folks to ride as their event begins on Wednesday June 29th. Shame if we go 2 years w/o a Mosier GS.
Thinking this through a bit, a Friday or Monday would be tough....How about Tuesday June 28th. Mid week is tough, too, but we'd get some people, I'm sure.
