Not that I'm singling anyone out, but if any of you post about deciding not to attend any event that you individually decide not to attend for whatever reason, Please specify that you as an individual are not attending and check your wording so it does'nt look like YOU are declaring that event as a "no-go" and possibly leading others to think that that event has been cancelled.
We still had a good crowd, I think actually in terms of people actually riding more vs. just hanging around, we had more RIDERS at this BBQ season-opener than any other(45 plus). Part of which I think was due the BBQ table/headquarters being stationed at the TOP of the hill this time and plus just having a good number of local kids with helmets who just happened to show up.
Thanks-Paul

Dan, that was quite the crew Dave had rolling with him yesterday in the Volvo. I hope you guys got back to Seattle ok. You should ask Dave about the local ripper from Aumsville in the session yesterday. I wish I had my camera he was amazing! I have not seen anyone rip anything up like that kid in sometime.

Mark Chuck and I almost decided to not make the trip from Clackamas because of the weather. Good thing we decided it was a nice day for a little roadtrip because we were stoked when we got to the hill. I kind of had a personal breakthrough on that hill yesterday and cant wait for the next event there. I love the starting ramps especially the fact that you leave the gate standing on the sweet spot of your board everytime. I actually got up and down that hill more times than I thought I would yesterday and still had energy left over to skate Aumsville afterwards. Aumsville typically is not my favorite skate-park but I was so stoked and jazzed after the slalom session it kind of carried over to the skate-park. Great day skating and hanging with everybody yesterday. Thanks again Paul. Dave Mitchell thanks for giving Mel a ride down.

Thank you Pauli-wog for anther great event! To bad more of the Washington crew wasn't able to make the trip. The timers were never set up so there wsa a lot of information sharing and tuning. The Newbies that showed up learned alot with out the competitive thing going on. Couple of the longboarders looked fantastic for never having been on a slalom board! It was a good day to hang out with the North West crew!

Good for the NW crew!
The Bay Area swapped weather with the NW. Lows in the 30s with snow on the local hills (as low as 1000 feet Thursday), sleet, hail and plenty of rain.
I demand that we trade back.

I can just hear what Paul is saying as he's sheilding his eyes from the sun in that picture:
"That woosie Chewning.... Wait til he sees this picture of the BRIGHT sunshine! Look at this pavement! It's dryer than a nutria skin that's been in the sun for a week! It's dryer than the freshly baked elk sinew I use for my primitive weapons class. Its dryer....... (1 hr later) .... than Wyoming where I used to live right next to ...."
Love that picture.

Glad you guys had a great time on semi-dry pavement. I still think I made the right call. Paragliding was awesome at the coast today: 3 flights at 2 different sites. Shared 1 thermal with a bald eagle. Watched the sunset while in the air.....

The 2-day race in Salem

I am still talking to the State Games of Oregon folks. They work slowly. I gave them 3 dates to consider for the race. They still want us to race on July 8 and 9 (the opening day for SGO). I think they finally are beginning to understand why this is not possible (same day as Hood River).
They are working directly with the Salem Parks department to reserve the hill. I really hope this week I can confirm a date for this race.

Rain Out? There was NO rain out!!

Let me clarify, there was no rain in Salem today. The hill was dry, there were intermittant patches of sun and blue sky. And everyone who made the journey, even those of us who showed up at 3:30PM, got to ride 2 great courses. There was one small patch of damp pavement, which was taken care of with a flamethrower. Yes I said flamethower. We rode with no problem for 5 - 6 hours. I can't thank Paul enough for putting this event on, everyone who pitched in setting the course, all of the Seattle crew who showed. In general everyone who was there. Thanks for making this a fantastic Sunday. Anyone interested in hitting WSU next Sunday stay tuned for weather reports later this week.

If you have any say in the matter, please keep in mind that the Maryhill downhill race in the weekend of June 24th. It would be nice not to have to choose between a DH and slalom event, again.

Wetness is a personal decision

Let me clarify: I will not be going to Salem because I do not think it is worth it.
Paul, as the organizer, is still going to be there and something will happen. (Unless he cancels).
You should make your own decision based on weather, how skate-horny you are, and what other things you could do instead.
It is my PERSONAL decision that I am not going. I am not advocating cancelling the event or trying to influence anyone else.

Hours and hours of disciplined training.Even lining-up a designated driver. :~) Anyone still going to skate somewhere today? A little schralpin' on Hood? Thanx anyways Guys! We'll see you soon!

Salem too wet?

I'm in agreement with Gareth. The ground here in Portland (and I assume Salem too) is too wet.
Even if it does not rain, the pavement is going to be wet because the temperature today is going to be just above the dew point. Furthermore, what little sunshine there might be will not directly hit that N facing tree-lined hill.
It just doesn't seem worth it. I'd rather go paragliding at the coast (which is going to be drier today). This time of year is very hard to count on dry pavement.
