AJ, loose enough to steer into the slide, but set-up just stiff enough to keep wobbles or wheelbite at bay. Ride height, wheel size, wheelwells (or cutaway shaped deck) and bushing durometers are all part of the mix here. But the wheelbite issue (on full-width decks) is problem #1, bushing setup is #2, steering angle[s] #3, on the list of things to dial in. BTW, look into Vemon's new 'fat' bushing (or Jim-Z's), which are very similar to the now-vintage Tracker Stimulator. The extra width means greater stability for a softer durometer bushing, which means turning + straightlining without wobble worries.

AJ, you need to sort these things out: How steep are your hills? If they're steep, you want to slide more often (use less of the hill for speed, more for braking), if they're sloped gently, go for more speed, less wheel grip.Harder duros tend to slide easier, but wheel shape also plays a role here. No-Skools are a great example of a wheel shaped to slide a bit, but available in many durometers so the grip you want can be found easily + precisely. Bones(SPF or Bombers), Killer-Bees, Hacketts, and Re-Issue SantaCruz Bullets all slide pretty well on smoother tar.
Board length; should fit the 'turn' you'd take to get across the hill's fall-line halfway across the lane's width, so 32" seems to me (with kicktails) a bit short, but w/ single kick or pinner, would be o.k.. Wheelbase is really the number you want to play with here (well, and truck steering). I like Earthwing's 'Bigfoot' (35" w/ 19" w.b.) or and OldSchool Schmitt-Stick Chainsaw (33" w/20" wheelbase) for the concaves and solid feel underfoot, but there's plenty of decks that're similar. Width-wise, match yout foot size, but don't go any wider. Why? 'Cause you want excessive leverage to shove the board past it's gription limits and into the slide. Trucks set with axles slightly less than the deck width are great at lower speed slides, but get too squirrely at bigger speeds.
Trucks; Randals and their copies (Gullwing, Paris, Tracker Fastrack, Smokies, etc) are a good basic geometry for slides, as the pivot responds even if fore/aft weight is centered on only one truck, whereas Indy-type trucks will get really squirrely or cause wobble-chatter. But 50* is only one geometry available, as baseplates for Randal vary greatly(60*,50*,42*,35*), and they take to being altered by wedges very well. Buy a Khiro wedge-kit that let's you adjust the angles, and sort it out (hint; talk to DH'ers and Slalomers for tips on truck set-up). You'll be suprised what wedges and bushing selection can do for your board's handling.

I want to get into sliding, but I don't have a good board. I was thinking of making a 32- inch, and giving it nice concave and maybe a kicktail, but I'm not too sure on how to do this. If you have any tutorial videos, that would be nice. Also, for wheels and trucks, would Earthwing Superballs be good and 50 degree Randals? Thanks, AJ

-1 hour practice/warm up

Vegasjls, also consider Powell Bombers in 68mm/85A for varied road conditions. The only real downside to these is that there's no bearing core, so on hot days, they'll get wobbly after prolonged slides or from really steep descents. Still, a great all-arounder and can be found for sale at a good discount.
Another wheel I'd recommend would be ABEC 11's Flashbacks [70mm, various durometers,but offset bearings], or Strikers (again, various duros avail.). Both of those have bearing cores, are fast, and not too fat for slides.

You should use a 97 for anything that is butter or close to butter. (Sergio Yuppie Sliders from Gravity Skateboards). If you get to some rougher pavement, a bigger wheel like a 73mm 90 Duro is what I favor. Try out the Sergios, you will not be dissappointed. Gravity also sells a nice 73 90. Enjoy the Ride-Fail till you succeed- Slide forever!!!!! Lance NCSC P.S.- You can slide all wheels, just depends on how big your "SACK" is!

My buddy just bought a Landyachtz board and some slide gloves. He wants to learn how to slide but is unsure what durometer of wheel to start with. He feels that the wheels that came with the board are too soft. Any recommendations? Thanks for any imput...
