My personal memorial to Chris is to skogg my way back up the hill at my 2 usual slalom spots thinking of what a fun goofy guy Chris was.

Chris! How's it hangin'.
Desert Ghost here, still pimpin' the 38" with Revenge trucks (formerly OG's that died) and tryin' hard to skog. WAY easier on a lowrider, ya?
Anyway, a seriously belated congrats on the Oceanside podium last July. (Yes, it's been awhile since I've been on site here at NCDSA).
I'll hit you up on LinkedIn in the coming days. Keep the Feet happy!

good to hear herbn, but we all know that 30% factor is the board, the other 70 is heart and leg. Jeffy Vyain has kicked butt with top mounts. dude has incredible leg kicks. and now the new king, Kiefer's high kick top mount pintail setup adds to the wide spectrum of designs that are in the winning circle. it would be nice to see some new names in the mix but since the big contests are being run by mostly the same guys, the same names will be popping up again and again :) . i've been averaging 12- 20 mile a night depending on how much time I have. no sign of me stopping either. got taken out a few days back by a clueless clumsy fruitbooter. i had to pull off a good stop on a dime cuz i was for sure head injury bound cuz the guy blindsided me from behind. been digging murray lake north of 70th and I-8. great riding there!

my friend sosha is skating to texas for adrenalina,, hope he finds the holes in the rainy weather pattern. He's a single foot pusher, i predict he'll be ambidextrious by the time he's halfway to texas. oh yeah he's starting here in new jersey! i built him a custom shaped lowered drop through board for randal 42 deg, and a race board that uses an old set of very light trucks off of one of my boards. Also dropped through, really really low, we're talking all kinds of fancy cuts to clear the board and the hanger during turns. fastest push board, energy goes straighter between the griptape and the axle with out any curved parts, also way lighter than dropped board contours. Sosha got ninth at governors island adrenalina starting with the unknowns, they almost got lapped by the front line(only a 2 mile lap)because of skater traffic, he then held them off for the next 13 laps, highest placing non front row starter, beast.

Hi Chris: I'm glad to see that NCDSA is back to the original form, and that your column is alive again. I was a big Ohio freestyle/slalom guy back in the mid-70's, and you were very inspirational. I remember adding a circular "samoan squat" to the end of my freestyle routines, and it was fun. Also, your column helped to get me inspired to push LD, so I bought a land yahtz drop deck, and I'm planning to try to push across Ohio. We have some great bike trails here, but nothing like Mission beach. Keep up the great work!

Yesterday I got 15 miles in, the day before, 20 and the day before that, 12 ...
the beauty of skogging is like going for an accelerated run in the park with a skateboard under your feet.
it making more and more sense to viewers along the beach scene when the they see someone with a nice gate, max speed 8mph and total control of their board.
if you're in San Diego, hit me up for a skog! cyaSK8

i think that since the format change ,posting has been way down, scrolling down and then picking a new topic is a pia, i mean not really ,but the less importance you put on posting your idea or comment the less you're willing to do to get a post up. Well ,the proof is in the posts, there are some topics or threads that have gone nearly a year with maybe one or no posts at all "great move". attack

Still working on how-to-vid
nice tips for the vid ed. i'm just the piano player. But getting into more downhill switch stance and push. less hyper from an early morning run with a huge hangover. :)
i'm stepping it up some for the race in NYC which I don't have a chance to win it but I do have a great chance to spread the skog to the NYC central park workout fiends and hangout with longboarders in the east coast.
I'll be in michigan, nyc, denver and san antonio before the end of the year. considering portland too.
2010 I believe will the Year of the Skog. More and more kids see the benefit of using both legs to push and switch stance will be the new easy trick to learn!
always love your comments herbN :) thanks

I ripped 2 laps between the pier and the jetty last night executing a variety of switch cross step moves that had some loaded kids scratching their heads. the beauty is in believing and understanding the concept of being pedidextrous. i sure wish I started hot and heavy on this many years ago.
too many skaters look like stiff cadavers when they ride locked into regular or goofy foot when they could be getting a better workout, alternating pushing legs, switching stance and carving.
All I'm saying is set your body free so your explore the full potential of riding! And skogging is the way to set your flatland longboarding experience free!

The river run in oside is 7.4 mi. each way, perfectly flat and no stops. Its an epic run with a switchback and forth hill right on the side of the trail(bring slide gloves). Its 14 miles roundtrip, you could leave a car on one side, but I usually start at the 6mi parking lot.Just a great morning of skate. Important- on the one or two days a year when the winds are going nuts, then grab whatever sail you can mcgillicutty together. Earlier this year there was a crappy day with 50mph gusts, I was just leaning back hard for miles. funnest thing ever, the wind snapped my homemade mast.I know i was choking 50mph out of that closet rod and secret sail material. Im back with a new kite-ish design and am ready with duct tape technology at its finest my friend. Get your sails made now, there is never enough warning when those winds come.here is a shot of the halfway hill. Erik lundberg and meeself.

perhaps a bit steadier, you're maybe a little less hyper than the last video, i saw, less sugar:? Also in videos if it's not worth looking at in real time...things that need fast forwarding maybe should be left on "the editting room floor",slow motion is alright for intensity or bringing out little details, my .02. I've sort of been trying to bring my pushes closer together(pairs),and have solid pushes with both feet, sometimes lefty just goes through the motions.
