Hello if you are getting this e-mail then you are a racer who I coming to the Texas Cold Fusion Sizzler of Doom in Hockley Texas. 1st and foremost on behalf of all the Texas Outlaws I would like to like to thank you for coming out and skating with us. Here is a tentative schedule for all three day. It is Tentative because we are waiting to see if the track will have all of it's lights or if we will have to bring in supplementary lights. So that being said.
Friday If we have lights we will be running a single elimination Slalom cross, this event starts at 4Pm and goers until we are done (hopefully about 9PM) This assuming that the lights have been installed and are bright enough to see. If we do not have the extra lights we will be Canceling the Slalom Cross and will be running downhill instead. The downhill will this year will run as a downhill trap. for those of you that don't know the trap is a span of 88 feet that is timed from that time we figure out just how fast you are going. All racers will get two runs one on each side of the track all racers will go down in pairs. we know that a lot of people will be new to downhill who are coming so we will let you start any where form the top down to the beginning of the trap.
Saturday: Giant & Hybrid Slalom, practice starts at 9:am racers meeting at 10:30AM and racing right after that.Giant Slalom will be run single lane jam style, cone penalty of .2 per cone and 15% dq limit. You will be able to pick your start, we will have the BAR (Big Ass Ramp, 9 feet tall.The Ricky Byrd style ramp.Or you can push start. We will also have one or two spots farther down the course for those who do not want to start form the top. This way everybody regardless of skill or comfort level get their 2 runs. All classes will run together in this event woman (if there is 4) Masters and Juniors (again if we have 4) will be pulled out every body else will have their class for this event decided for them by their time. After the GS we will be running the Hybrid slalom. The Hybrid slalom will done 1st with qualifying and then head to head racing. Cone penalty is .10 and 15% DQ Limit. We will be using a Trakmate timer will false start detection and Ricky Byrd Style start Ramps. Both A and B class will start from the top. We will also run declared C class Hybrid farther down the hill with push boxes instead of start ramps. Of all 3 days I would think that this one will be the longest But I am thinking that we will finish up (assuming there are no hiccups) at about 6:30 or 7PM. Sunday will be tight slalom and Downhill. Again with Qualifying and then Head to Head racing. ALL racers that want to try and qualify for the A class in the tight slalom can but only the top 16 will be the A Class and will be running head to head. All other racers will be running single lane jam style one run in each lane from farther down the hill. If we run the downhill after the tight instead of on Friday then the same rules apply as the format that was explained for Friday. After that we will have the awards ceremony on the hill. A class racers will get prize money for 1st 2nd and 3rd for the top overall finishers all round. we have a guaranteed purse of at least 300$ for 1st 200$ 2nd and 100$ if we have enough women we have the same guaranteed purse for that class as well. we have trophies for all classes as well as one for the downhill. We are also working on some thing else for the downhill but the details are not worked out yet so I will not share that part yet. But expect to hear about it in the next e-mail. A few added notes We have secured a hotel for the racers it is the Best Western. 13371 Fm 1960 Rd W, Houston, TX (281) 807-4007 · __$79.95___Single: One Bed King Size __$89.95___Double: Two Queen Size Beds

Hey, Thanks for posting that, I appreciate and always enjoy reading it, but --
Why is it posted here on the "Tex" Texas Outlaws forum rather than the bigger "Slalom" where more people would likely see it. That forum and the whole slalom crowd need some sparks like this one to get any fire going again.

Twas the night before christmas, when all through the Farm Not a Downhillbilly was stirring, not even Marion Karr; The bushings were placed in the GOG's with care, In hopes that BIG DON soon would be there;
The "skaters" were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of Joe Iacovelli danced in their heads; And Kenny in his spandex, and I with my rap, Had enough of this beer bellied longboarders crap
When up on the start ramp there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the curb to see what was the matter. Away to the hill I flew like a flash, Tore my achilles tendon and threw up from cheap hash.
The moon on the breast of the New England snow Gave the lustre of mid-day to bald heads below, When, what to my wondering eyes was I facing, But Hackett, oLsOn, and Black Leather Racing,
And a little old rider, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be Jack Smith. More rapid than eagles his courses they set, And he hooted, and hollered, and called them by name;
"Now, Gilmour! now, Tucker! now, Maysey and Joe! On, ICK STICK! on AXE! on, PAVEL and ROE! To the top of the hill! to the top of the road! Now dash away! dash away! dash away gOAd!"
As dry leaves that before the wild Mollica fly, When they meet with an obstacle, criddle to the sky, So up to the hill-top the racers they flew, With the sleigh full of Indys, and Radikal's too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of each little hoof. As I drew in my hand, and was turning around, Down the chimney Arab came with a bound.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, And replaced all the bushings; then called me a jerk, And laying his finger inside of his nose, And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, ere he rode out of sight, "YOUR TRUCKS SUCK!"

What goes on there? I'll be passing through during the last week of October doing the GF/family thang and might end up feeling the need for retail skate therapy. Are there any recommended shops or slalom sights that might be worth a visit? I'll also be heading to Austin for a day to visit the difficult, but charismatic, Lance's 'Mellow Jonnie's Bike Shop' and get the T-Shirt. I'd rather get the Outlaws version. Where should I head for that latter item?Ummmm... 'Go Horns' as the G/F says. Sounds a bit rude to me. But encouraging.SamGPAVEL/ Virage/ CCR
