Yes, Geo it was hard, fun, emotional and totally cool.
I did meet Lance for a moment. We ditched the 2,000 people waiting to ride and just hung out in front of the start. Not my idea, but the people I was with. Anyhow, Lance comes out of his tour bus, on his bike, rides up to me and I had the camera rolling. Fisheye so it was on my hip. He saw that I was video taping him, and shot me a look like "hey, you seem cool. I didn't know there were any cool people in Ohio". I shot a look that said "sure, there are several of us here in the Buckeye State".
What came out of my mouth was "thanks for coming Buddy". He said "You bet" with a big smile. He rode as a cancer survivor. After talking to the officials for about 10 seconds he was off. I gave the biggest "woo hoo" to single the start, and my friends took off and rode with him as long as they could.
By the time I got my video put away and got on my bike, he and the lead pack were 300 yards ahead. I was riding about 23 mph the first few miles but they just drifted off in the distance. My star search was over, so I settled into the 18-20 mph group and just drafted my butt off.
After about 40 miles the pack thinned out. Some miles I saw nobody. Big hills miles 50-80 in the Hocking Hills region of southeast Ohio.
I cried, laughed, sweated, ate, drank, and just had fun. It was cool. Robin and Ryder were at the finish and we went home after some food and beer.
My chain was skipping gears on the steep hill. I was in 3 or 4th gear, and the chain skipped and snapped. Some dude fixed it in 15 minutes.
The whole thing took 6.5 hours with the 20 minute break. I'll do it next year. I felt good about raising the money. You guys should too. I wont hit up the same people next year. Gotta post running out of time.

Wouldn't it be easier to ride on the road and not through a corn field? Or is this some new training regimen? Don't the farmers get mad that you tear up their plants? Don't the stalks get caught in the chain?

You don't need the rider number to donate, but it is #4216.
You can look up the rider with last name.
Thanks Jason/Terry and 66 for the donations!!!
I rode 35 this morning out in the corn fields outside of Columbus. It was nice.
Thanks again.

2009 Pelotonia Ride with Lance for Cancer Research

I am riding in a 100 mile Pelotonia 2009 ride with Lance Armstrong for cancer research.
Net Jets in Columbus donated 12 million dollars, so all donations go strait to the James Cancer (Ohio State University) Hospital.
My brother Jim spent half of his 5 years in the James, and I spent many nights there with him from 1997-2001 when he died of a rare brain disease.
Anyhow, I did not want to do it since most people will just be trying to get close to Lance, who will not even remember his 24 hours in Columbus.
But yesterday, a lady on my block asked if I was doing it, since I bike almost every day. I told her I didn't want to be a Lance stardom freak, but that I would think about it.
The James Hospital took good care of Jim when he was sick, but there was no way to survive at this time in history. Maybe in the future it would have been different.
Anyhow, I committed a few minutes ago, and need to raise $1,500 for the ride. If anyone would like to donate $5.00-$20.00 that would be great. Please no more than $20.00. I know its tight right now for everyone, but the research will help us or someone we know in the future.
My brother was a great guy - like a real strait Kenny. A boy scout that would cry every time he heard the Star Spangled Banner. He was pioneer that faced his fear head on in business, sports and life.
Jim was a year older than me when he got sick and 50 when he died. I was there. He just looked at us and his light went out like the movie E.T.
you can donate at Pelotonia.org/ride/
Thanks.

Haggy,
we had so much fun down under - I am still smiling. Had surgery right when we got back and the foot is starting to feel 70% normal. Good enough to skate. Have been riding banks at the parks and the EXKATE, and bicycle. Starting to feel pretty good.
We did not have any time for anything except family and friend time when in Australia, so we didn't try to meet up with any of the "skate crowd". Sorry, I just hung with our host family, who are great friends from Ohio.
We will be back over some time in the next 5 years. It wont be long. THE PEOPLE DOWN UNDER WERE SO COOL - I COULD TOTALLY LIVE THERE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVED IT.

hey Kenny,
Didn't know you were down under recently. Looks and sounds like you had a ball. Good stuff. Bummer you couldn't be around a bit longer. A few weeks ago we had a downhill/SuperGS bash up in Townsville. Slalom at 60kmh+. Pretty darn fun.
Awesome you went to Bells. I'm up in Sydney so too far away but one day hope to make it down that way...
peace out

Hay Kenny, AUG 1st we are hosting a banked slalom invitational, would love to have you out for this event, we found a huge ditch with 25 foot banks, perfect transitions, just like new mexico. I plan on inviting 30 racers to race, we just got sponsered from Red Necuar ale, and hemp brewing company, hope all is well with you and your family. thanks again for that G.S. board from hood last year, it works unreal 4 me, your bro, Miller

Hey chuffers, heard the Ditch Slap was killer. My buddies from here loved it. Had the Neuroma surgery a week ago and hopefully it'll feel great in a couple months.
Got in a little shredding in Australia at the Frankston Skatepark on my Jason Mitchell all around model. Worked in the airport, streets, and the park. Thanks Jason !!! I only took one board and loved it.

Joe,
They are so stoked !!! Andy Griffith, Lee Monagan and Don Lee. They are all cool. Lee Monagan is the least experience and will need to play it safe. Andy and Don should be just fine. They have long term skills.
I almost cancelled my surgery this Tuesday and came out, but I need to take care of the foot. Its cramping my style. Take care and have a blast !!!!!! I really wish I could be there. More than you know.

Looks like you had a great trip, it's so cool that you include your son in everything, he's such a lucky guy! We're going to miss you at the Slap in Abq, but I'll take some soul runs down Indian School for you and a Safety Check under the bridge. I don't know about doing it in my flip flops though....
What are your friends names besides Andy Griffith?
