The 2003 California Championship gravity racing series date for August is now set for Sunday, August 17, at West LA College. This added date will feature races for downhill skateboard, inline downhill, classic luge (buttboard), street luge, and gravity bikes, as well as giant slalom racing on D Street for skateboard and inline.
All races will count towards the IGSA world rankings. There will be awards for the top 3 in each event, and also prizes. At the end of the series there will be special series awards for the top point-getters (dropping each racer's worst result in each discipline). Sponsors include 3dm skateboard wheels, Oust Bearings, Ed Economy longboards and Kryptonics wheels.
The race will take place rain or shine, but if it rains the schedule may change (for example a tight slalom might be postponed for rain, but luge would race in the rain).

Please bring your checkbook to become a full member ($30/year). Day memberships are available for $5/day, and are required for all riders who are not full members (i.e.: non-member fees are $40, $30, and $15). Juniors (under 18) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and will be charged only a practice fee even if they race. Spectators are free. Also, the first few who come early to help with the street cleaning and setup in the morning will receive a free race entry!
Manufacturers and shop owners, it's not too late to supply prizes for these races! You can even just show up with something to add to the prize pool, and bring your banner to hang. We'll be sure to mention you in upcoming announcements.
Protective gear: IGSA equipment rules will be used. For slalom and giant slalom this means helmets, pads (elbow and knee), and hand protection (gloves and/or wrist guards) are required, and hip pads are recommended. Please, no short shorts or tank tops. For street luge, buttboard, gravity bikes, and downhill skateboard and inline, full helmets, leathers, and leather gloves are required. We're building an equipment pool to loan to people who forget things, please donate your old gear, it may save someone a long trip home!
See you there!

Overall Results: |
The third slalom of the 2003 California Championship series (and fourth date of the race series) at West LA College featured an informal tight slalom and a hybrid giant slalom with a fast and smooth finish, but a series of 6 tight cones near the top that made it more representative of the fast slalom style. The weather was classic August: sunny, dry, and hot. The turnout was light as expected, with short notice, summer vacations, and the X games being in town. But in the end it was a very active and fun day with racing on both the downhill and slalom courses going on at the same time. (Downhill results are posted at gravity-sports.com).
The times were as close as ever, with the top 3 skateboards within 0.05 seconds! In the end, Richy posted the fastest time, but a cone penalty moved him back to second place and John O'Shei's clean riding prevailed. Many thanks go out to the volunteers who made the race run smoothly!
Skateboard Fast Slalom (best of 3 runs, 0.2 seconds/cone): 1 John O'Shei 21.844 2 Richy Carrasco 21.879 (fastest time, but 1 cone penalty) 3 Attila Aszodi 21.886 4 Brent Kosick 22.904 5 Michael Kaelon 24.169 6 Tiger Williams 24.343 7 David Carrasco 24.390 8 Chris Sutherland 24.708 9 Rick Howell 25.530 10 David Hamm 25.712 11 Lynn Kramer 25.950 12 Tim Kienitz 26.007 13 Roger Jennings 26.400
Inline Giant Slalom (best of 2 runs, 0.2 seconds/cone): Scott Peer 20.922 (fastest on course) George Merkert 24.182 Keri Tishner 25.739
