Contest Info: ********NEWS FLASH******************************************
Today Saterday morning 6 Nov 04(Happy 42nd to Me), The weather forcast looks good so lets plan on it! See you there! See the helmet and safety conditions at the bottom.
************************************************************Weather permitting, we'll have a race season closing event like the opening event. This location is one of the best that the Northwest has to offer with buttery smooth asphalt, level surface, room for two courses, a scenic location with BIG oak trees that like to present us with leaves, twigs, and ACORNS!!! so bring your extra cones, chalk, leafblowers, brooms, shovels, and dustpans. Hopefully we'll get it cleaned up early, but this is a big hill and it's a big mess. I'll bring a small BBQ and some burgers, sausages, and other foods, other BBQ's and food is encouraged. If you want to be way cool, show up early and help clean or get a BBQ started and cooking. I'll bring stuff for a handwashing station so you don't have to fear eating with grimy race-hands.
This is not an official race, but rather a slalom good time get-together BBQ, plus it'll be my birthday. There will probably be 2 different courses going at any one time unless we want to do some unofficial lo-tech head-to-head racing at some point with parallel matched courses-bring some string and tape measures if you're so inclined.
BEGINNERS-This is the perfect event to try slalom, try a multitude of different brands/types of equipment and see what you like before spending some $$$ on a slalom setup.
THIS IS AN OUTLAW EVENT,SORT OF- The park maintenence peaple dig us and have never shoo-ed us away or busted us ever since we have been having practices and events on this hill, in fact they usually comment that they're glad to see the hill being used. But there's is always the unexepected, just remember, "Racing-It's a Pickle!!!"
DIRECTIONS-Come to Salem Oregon on I-5, in south Salem (not south of Salem),look for the Highway 22 Exit, take it and go West (toward the coast/away from the Cascades), HWY 22 becomes Mission Street almost immediatly, so go west 2.7 miles from I-5 staying on Mission Street. Look to the left/south(away from the North Pole) for Bush Park, look for the big sports arena stadium, look for the bottom of the Soap Box Derby hill next to the stadium. Yes, it's that simple, you'll turn more on your board than you will in your vehicle.
HELMETS-I'd say "Mandatory" but it's a public municipal recreation at-your-own-risk facility. It's your brain, I suggest you take good care of it,you never know when you'll need it next.By attending this event it is implied you agree that noone else including me is responsible for preventing injury to or salvaging your cranial contents or any other anatomy that may become injured as a participant.

SEE YOU THERE!!!!! - Paul
1st Place Finisher: Some Guy from Oregon-27.52
2nd Place Finisher: Pete Ingraham - 28.18
3rd Place Finisher: John Stryker - 28.20
Overall Results: Hey, this was a great time for Me since it was my Birthday Party sorta, and it was the Cascade Slalom Associations race season closing event. The weather was great, Stryker set a long (80 cones) hybrid course with lots of good offsets, Chewning put his timer on it and everyone had fun racing the clock and each other. I set a small G/S course (70 cones) without a timer. Since this wasn't really a "race", there was LOTS of blabbing, checking out each other's setups, several board makers present comparing construction methods, lots of hang'n by the BBQ. The weather was great, the Salem Parks Maintenence Guy pitched in and used the Parks Dept leafblower and cleaned about 2/3rds of the hill for us before he had to leave to do other things. Mrs Anderson baked birthday brownies, lots of food, everyone's form just keeps getting faster and better, it was a great time. See Everyone next Season or hopefully sooner! Later- Paul
