BIG-N-FAST BECAUSE I SAY SO

Event Duration:
Location: Salem Soap Box Derby Hill, Salem Oregon
Entry: Open
Helmets:
Organizer: King Paulskiiwog & Cascade Slalom Empire presents:
Map:
Entry Fee: Leaf blowers, brooms and labor,
Contest Info: SUGGESTED $10.00 DONATION - We need more cables and new tape switches for the timing system, any contributions above or below that amount will be welcome. -Thanks!

WHEN: October 1st (or 15th as the rainout date), Sunday, 10:23am.

NOTE: BRING A LEAF-BLOWER(and a HELMET), or Brooms and some EXTRA CONES.

WHAT: 2 Lane head-to-head Helmeted BIG hybrid verging on G/S as much as is possible to squeeze into 2 lanes on the buttery smooth pavement of the Salem Oregon Soap Box Derby Hill. This hill carries a 5-STAR Pavement Rating from the Royal Slalom Helmet Heritage Conservancy Foundation.

Possibly this may turn into a single lane bigger course jam format, possibly an end-of-season BBQ. A poll will likely be conducted by email and the CSA forum.

It will be SOOO big and fast that there will be a few cone spacings you can tuck or quad pump through(your call), other places will tighten up but nothing too tight. If I put in any "gimmie" cones, they won't be as bad as some have been in the past. This race will be about wearing helmets, speed and flow with a mixed spacing course.

Did I mention BRING A LEAF BLOWER (and er, um, cough a HELMET, and some CONES)?

This will a be a GREAT NEWBIE HELMET WEARING EVENT as none of the turns will be too challenging unless you start with a really fast start and have the experience to know how to crank and pump hard in the first section. It will also be a great chance to use up all the old stale gas in your LEAF-BLOWER and an equal opportunity to use your EXTRA CONES. A fast approach and attack of the top section will make it a fast course, a more passive approach in the top should make it pretty dang do-able for any and all newbies and maybe their parents too.

OFFICIALITY: This will be a DROP-IN UNSCHEDULED MUNICIPAL RECREATION FACILITY EVENT (Not "outlaw"), so bring your park decks as a backup just in case and we'll go have a skatepark session at one of several great skateparks in the area "if" we can't use the hill for some unforseen reason. This however is very not-likely as the Park Maintanence staff dig watching us wearing our Helmets while we slalom through ALL OUR CONES and we've never had a complaint lodged against us wearing our helmets and entertaining visitors to the park. LEAF-BLOWERS are completly welcome at this location as well. Let's pick up trash, not be a nuisance to anyone else visiting the park like everyone has been great about in the past - THANKS!!!!!

COULD AS MANY OF YOU AS POSSIBLE BRING YOUR LEAF BLOWERS(and of course, your HELMETS, and maybe some extra CONES)

HELMETS: I hereby decree that Helmets will be worn at this race and all other pads, wrist guards, slide gloves, Leaf Blowers, jackets, body armour are recommended. Since this is a skate/race at your own risk event, YOU AND NOONE ELSE ARE RESPONSIBLE/LIABLE IF YOU GET HURT, ESPECIALLY IF YOU WHACK YOUR NOGGIN WITHOUT A HELMET!!!!!!!!

PRIZES/TROPHIES: We should have some unigue arsty (sculpted ?) trophies from some aggregate of interesting doo-dads attached with various fixatives from Skip. Possibly free schwag slalom specific stuff for newbies-in-need.

(subliminal: think LEAF-BLOWER, and Cones, and LEAF BLOWER)

WHERE: Take I-5 to South (not south of)Salem, Oregon, Look for the HWY 22 Exit and go WEST toward the Pacific Ocean. HWY-22 almost immediately becomes Mission Street(or Ave or Blvd), so stay on Mission. Follow it as it winds around a little here and there for approx 2.5 miles from where you turned off of I-5. Look to to your left/south for a big park called BUSH PARK, Look for a big track stadium, and turn into the parking lot and go a smidgeon further west and you'll see the venerable Soap Box Derby Hill next to/behind the stadium. Put your helmet on and go race.

FEE: BRING LEAF BLOWERS, brooms, etc and come early and help clean and set the course. AND BRING EXTRA CONES AND CHALK. -Thanks
