Contest Info: THIS IS AN AT-YOUR-OWN-RISK EVENT, ANY AND ALL INJURIES INCURRED WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILTY OF THE RIDERS/ENTRANTS AND NOT THE ORGANIZER(S), SALEM PARKS, CITY OF SALEM OR THE SOAP BOX DERBY CLUB. HELMETS WILL BE MANDATORY. All other pads, wrist guards, slide gloves, jackets/armour are highly recommended if you have them, it's a hill.

DATE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE DUE TO WEATHER AND OTHER EVENTS. Stay tuned.

IF YOU HAVE A LEAF BLOWER, BRING IT!!!!!!!! It will be most apprecieated!

IF YOU ARE A CSC'er - Bring your CONES, Yes, bring your cones so we don't hold our breath waiting for M.Dong or Gareth to show up at 12:30pm with their cones.

WHEN: The date has been changed due to rain from the original date to Sunday, April 27th, 9:56am

WHAT: This will be the annual Spring Cascade Slalom Collective Slalom race season opening event. There will be the tradition of the Revolution with BBQ with burgers, sausages, salads, drinks, and a handwashing station. Feel free to bring chips or extra burger/buns sausages/buns or whatever -Thanks

Oh, and there will be skateboard slalom riding as well. Per tradition of the Revolution, there will be 2 courses set. One will be big and open, fast and easy. It will be easy to check one's speed for beginners and yet possible for the experienced slalomer to hammer the turns and fly fast. The other course will be more technical, tighter "but not really that tight". Only one lane will have a timer so those who want to race in a jam format can do so and all others who just want to free-ride the other course can do so as well. Emphasis is to ride, have fun, eat and have a good event for the newbies and proletariate longboarder. Long live the Revolution.

OFFICIALITY: Per Salem Parks and Rec Dept, this is a "Drop-in unscheduled use of a municipal recreation facility"(also known as "outlaw" in some circles but we don't want to use that word here). Bring your your park or other decks in
case we get told to leave and we'll go to one of the nearby famous Oregon skateparks. So far in the 4 years of using this hill it hasn't happened yet. Just remember to pick up garbage and not be nuisance to other park users and the parks staff will hopefully continue to welcome us. So far everyone has been great about this so THANKS!!!!! .

SCHWAG: Likely some SubsonicSkateboardy and LongboardyLarry-ish slalomy sorta stuff and maybe some other slalomy kind of stuff plus a half empty bag of leftover Redman chew.

WHERE: Bush Park, Salem Oregon. Place yourself onto Interstate 5 after locating Salem on a map. Go to south Salem(not south "of" Salem). Look for the Oregon State Highway Number 22. Take the exit and go WEST (Toward Japan), almost immediately you will notice you are on MISSION BLVD. Mission Blvd and Hwy 22 West are the same piece of pavement. Keep going 2.5-ish miles WEST, you'll wind around a little, go over an underpass, then go under an overpass, then soon you will see BUSH PARK ON YOUR LEFT(SOUTH- Toward the South Pole). Look for a Big track and field stadium, turn left into the parking lot, the Soap Box Derby Hill is right next to it on the right(West, Toward the Pacific Ocean) as you are facing the stadium. Park your car, put on your helmet and pads, grab your equipment(your skateboard, not your other "equipment") and go eat and ride.

If you want to be a BIG help, show up early with brooms and a LEAF BLOWER and help clean the hill.

OUT OF TOWNERS:
Motel 6
1401 Hawthorne Ave NE
Salem Oregon
(503)371-8026

Take I-5 to the Market Street Exit, go WEST for about one block west of I-5(but don't turn onto the ramp leading back onto I-5), then turn left/south onto Hawthorne and you should soon see it on your right/west. Call and reserve ahead since they often fill up fast on weekends.
1st Place Finisher: Everyone
2nd Place Finisher: Everyone Else
3rd Place Finisher: Those not covered by the above
Overall Results: OK, so we didn't really race and it was a lot smaller event than last year(whew!!!!), but was a lot of fun, everyone got to ride a LOT more, I ate too much as usual and almost fell off of my board trying to ride right after finishing a huge plate of burger, potato and macaroni salad and saled greens. Thanks to everyone who showed up and helped setup, cook, prepare food, skated, hung out, blabbed, cleanup and pack things away. Thanks to Everybody - Paul
