Thanks to all that came out to show their vintage gear, longboard gear and slalom gear. One of the PA guys showed up with an 8 wheeler and was getting 7 wheels out. Slappy came down with his odd equipment including a sailboard-skateboard. Of course Alan Chaney had his historical display of skateboards and items while John Dillon had vintage helmets and shirts to show with his vintage skateboards. There was much to see and talk about at this years event.
I'm sure glad that the longboard crowd showed up to skate cheap sessions. I hear that some were loaning out their boards for kids to try. This was the spirit of the event, to open eyes of the new skateboard generation to the history of skateboarding and other aspects of skateboarding.
Most of all I would like to thank the volunteers and sponsors. Dave Cameron, John Dillon, James Riordon, JP Riordon, My Wife, Eric Kennedy, Ruffy aka Roofie, Mark Hunter & his wife, Darryl Hathaway, the Potomac Mills Vans Skatepark staff, Surfrider members and many more that stepped up to help out. Sponsors included: Vans, Fairfax Surf Shop, Evolve Skate Shop, Eastcoast Board Co. Skate shop, Zion Skate Shop, Wolfpack, and ECRW.
The Washington DC Surfrider Chapter will be holding the 3rd Annual Vintage & Longboard Day the same Saturday next year (November 16, 2002). Come join us next year.
Thanks, David Riordon Surfrider Foundation DC Chapter Vice Chairman |
