This year we plan on the same mayhem as we had at Luna 2007 for our Friday night casual gathering on the race hill. Again this year and back by popular demand, it's Slalomcross! This event will be very similar to the slalomcross events run at the World Championships in past years except on a smaller scale. We will use the start ramps and the four beep start to assure fair starts. The course will start with a set of 4 to 6 widely spaced cones, then it's into a single lane of three big sweeping turns. There will be a wide fast left hander as the course enters the lower parking lot, then returning to separate lanes for the finish. We are using a best 2 out of 3 format so no timer is needed. These types of races can bring out the competitive nature in some so, false starts are an instant DQ. Any cone hit is an instant DQ. If a racer is obviously pushed into a cone by another racer, the pusher is DQ'd. Play fair or pay. We can determine a push by a racer or a racer trying to squeeze where he or she don’t fit. Match ups for the starting brackets will be done lottery style with names pulled from a hat. Anyone running late to this race will be added to the line up only during the first round. We need to get started as soon as possible to assure finishing with daylight so get to the hill ASAP. Thanks.

The slalomcross free race so some local longboarders can come out and try their hand at racing.

Party at the Byrd house afterwards with the usual food that’s been fried, boiled and simmered and of course beer and drinks. More on that later

Saturday, May 3, 2008, Madison Landing, Ridgeland, Mississippi

Single lane jams all day long with the courses set by super surprise guest course setters. The plan is straight tight, hybrid tight, hybrid, and an indefinable assortment of other courses. Again, all will be single lane. Imagine straight 6’s on Madison Landing hill. Remember the races at Bicknell Hill that Dave Hegstrom organized… very similar to that and very fast coming at you.

We plan on breaking out class winners in Open (Pro & Am), Women’s, and Masters. You will need to declare your status on the race hill.

This race is of Basic ISSA points status. The actual races that count toward ISSA points will be announced on race day. Entry fee for this day is $20. Helmets are required at this event.

Afterwards, Bonfire, cookout, party, halfpipe jam under the lights in beautiful Pickens, Mississippi. Clifton would like to invite everyone to come out to his place in the country for the evening. We'll have plenty of hot boiled crawfish with corn, potatoes & sausage, large boiled shrimp and beer for everyone. The halfpipe has been extended over the past year to include a wooden ditch section over the roll-in along with a wall-ride which flows from the platform of the ditch section. Clifton asks that everyone try to spend the night on a bed, couch, sleeping bag, tent, RV etc., cause it is long way home after a long night in the country. His place is less than an hour north of Ridgeland. This puts any Sunday Oxford skaters that much closer and saves you a night in a hotel.

We will have maps to Clifton’s place at the event on Saturday.

If you would like to use Mapquest or a GPS to find the race hill the best address to use would be:

Cock of the Walk Restaurant
141 Madison Landing Cir
Ridgeland, MS 39157
(601) 856-5500

We will have maps to Clifton’s place at the event on Saturday.

Best lodging for this year is at the usual location.
Drury Inns & Suites
610 E County Line Rd
Ridgeland, MS 39157
(601) 956-6100

Wesley Tucker has stayed at and recommends a room at Motel 6 on I-55 in Jackson, MS for $50 a night which includes a kitchen in the room. I haven’t stayed there (why would I) so I can’t recommend it but it is an option and very close to the Drury.

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Check back here for more info as the event grows nearer.
