Format
Each FCR Series stop will be a two-day event except for the 2002 World Championship which will be scheduled over three days. Each Series event will consist of two races, a dual format race and a second specialty event, which may or may not be a dual race (e.g. Super G, Tight Slalom, Giant Slalom, Bank Slalom etc.), which complements the venue. Racers will compete in either Pro Class or Open Class.
The courses for Pro and Open may differ to accommodate the different experience levels typically found between the classes. Dual events will be in a standard 32-racer single elimination format with seeding based on the best of two qualifying runs.
Classes
Racers will be free to self classify as either a Pro Racer or an Open Class Racer. An Open Class racer may decide to re-classify him or herself as a Pro Racer at any time.

Description
The 1st annual Breckenridge High Peaks Drifter is a professional and open class Slalom and Giant Slalom Skateboard race marking the critical halfway point in the 2002 FCR race series with qualifying points leading
to the World Championships in October. The High Peaks Drifter will be held at nearly 10,000 feet elevation in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, in the center of the resort destination of Breckenridge, Colorado. With snow covered Rocky Mountains as a backdrop and the energy of downtown Breckenridge surrounding, racers will enjoy 2-days of heated battle on two exciting race sites in the heart of Breckenridge.
Courses and Surfaces
Giant Slalom
Saturday, June 8th will begin the race weekend with the Dual Giant Slalom on King's Crown Road, 2 blocks from the town center. The GS course site is a wide road with a consistent pitch on a north facing hill with five-star pavement, a slight crown to the centerline and sidewalks for spectators. The run-out on this course is slightly less steep, ending at Four O’Clock hill. Foot braking will be necessary. For comparison, this hill has a similar pitch to Cambria, but twice as wide and slightly more grippy.
Expect a technical course with many wide offsets and technical sections, 40-50 gates.
Dual Slalom
Sunday, June 9th will be the date of the dual slalom on Adams Avenue from French Street to Main Street in the center of downtown Breckenridge. If a frenzied crowd of screaming fans presents a problem for your race psych, perhaps you should skip this one. Downtown Breckenridge
in the summer is loaded with tourists from around the world, screaming your name as you try to beat your opponent to the finish.
The dual slalom course has three distinct sections. Starting at the historic Breckenridge Town Hall at French and Adams, the first section has a mild slope from which a ramp start will get things going nicely. The middle section flattens slightly for 80 meters as you pass the intersection of Adams and Ridge. This short section is similar in pitch to the Presidio Dual course. The final 50 meters steepens nicely as you head for the finish line at Main St. A casual foot drag stop will bring you to your finish on Main Street and see you propelled to victory as you crush your opponent by mere hundredths, or sending you to the slow walk of shame back uphill.
The roadway is slightly wider than Cambria with sidewalks and cafes lining both sides of the road. This road was repaved in August of 2001 and features excellent 4 1/2-star pavement.

Getting There
By Air
Denver International Airport is a hub for United and is served by Frontier, American, Northwest and several other airlines. Colorado Springs Airport is also worth checking into, though considerably further away from Breckenridge by ground transportation.
From the DIA to Breckenridge
Racers and their entourage qualify for a discount with Colorado Resort Express when you mention that you are with the Breckenrdige Skate Contest. Discounted fare is $44 one way, $88 Round trip. Call 800-334-7433 for reservations.
The van leaves DIA about every 90 minutes.
Rental
Ganging up on a rental car from Denver for the weekend is probably the best way to go. If you draw the car with Chaput, entertainment is provided en route. Look for Gilmour in the baggage area before you leave DIA.
By Car
From Denver it's a little less than 2 hours drive to Breckenridge, on I-70.
From Santa Monica, California to Downtown Breckenridge - 15 hours. This assumes 80 mph non-stop, a caffeine IV drip, and a catheter. I-10, to I-15, to I-70. Be a man, make the drive. If you ride with Du Paul, bring a fire extinguisher and some cardboard to make a sign that says "My Car burned to the grown. High Peaks Drifter or Bust."

Weather Contingency
Saturday GS weather plan. If weather forecasts threaten the race, racing may begin at 7:00 a.m. If the Saturday race is not completed on Saturday, there is no plan to carry the remainder of the GS event to Sunday. The GS race will be completed on the GS Race day. On both days the race will end at or before 6:00 p.m. at which time the road must be reopened.
Sunday- Dual weather plan. If weather forecasts threaten on Sunday the race may begin as early as 7:00 a.m. If weather closes the race, there is no plan to carry the event forward to Monday. The Dual race will be completed on Sunday, rain or shine.
