IMPORTANT REMINDERS

To make sure the event runs smoothly, only the top 16 in each class will go on to head-to-head racing, regardless of how far away they come from and what class they sign up for. If you do not make that top 16, you won’t skate past qualifying, and you can’t change from one class to another depending on the event. Once you declare your class, that is your class for all events. However, everyone who participates in the race weekend will get ISSA points and placing in the event.

We will be setting one course only for each discipline: one Tight, Hybrid and Giant for ALL racers. All courses will be set with all racers in mind, keeping with the idea that speed through the course is more important than being able to make the course.

Both qualifying and head-to-head racing will use random-beep starts. This is to ensure that racers cannot gain an advantage by either (1) starting early to skate a “clean” course, or (2) waiting for their opponent to start so they can “chase down” the opponent.

Also, a false start will be a DQ (disqualification) for that run. A careful examination of the rules has shown that the current “2x” false-start penalty sometimes still allows a racer to gain an unfair advantage. So again, in the interest of fairness, all false starts will result in a DQ for that run. This rule change has been approved by the ISSA. If you have any questions about this rule, please speak to any of the following ISSA representatives: Jani Söderhäll; Jonathan Harms; Hans “Corky” Koraeus; or Ron “Fatboy” Barbagallo.

The after-party and awards ceremony will be held on Sunday after the last race at the bottom of the hill at the community center. Please keep in mind that Hockley is a DRY hill, which means no alcoholic beverages on the hill. This is the park’s policy, and we must abide by it. It will be strictly enforced. Please save the beer until the end of the day in the community center.

One last thing: If nature does not cooperate (the dreaded “R” word), be prepared to race more than one event on the day that is not affected. Hockley has a lot of lights so we can easily run well into the evening if we have to.

If you need to reach any of the Texas Outlaws when you get into town, call any of the following:

Marcos Soulsby-Monroy: 832-385-7985
Eddy Martinez: 956-792-4304
Zack Levitt: 713-818-9815
Humberto Salcedo: 713-289-0883
Stephen Blane: 832-385-0781

See you at the race!

Come and join the Texas Outlaws for the World Championships of Slalom in Houston (Hockley) Texas on October 11th 12th and 13th 2013. We will be running Giant, Hybrid and Tight slalom on the Hockley soapbox derby track.
For those of you who have not been to the soapbox derby track this is a spot as close to perfect of any venue that I have been to. The Asphalt on a scale of 1-10 is a 9, (9 due to some wear this past three years) the hill is a quarter mile long and drops at 1st a 6% then a 4% grade speeds can reach 30-35 MPH due to an almost constant tail wind.
 photo IMG_20130301_120400_zps7bb57725.jpg

On Friday we will run Giant Slalom. Giant Slalom will be run single lane jam style, cone penalty of .2 per cone and 15% dq limit. You will be able to pick your start, we will have the BAR (Big Ass Ramp, 9 feet tall.)
 photo 189642_10150114238866861_670016860_7100271_5369527_n.jpg
or The Ricky Byrd style ramp.

We will run one class and then another and so on till all racers have had at least three runs, we will take the fastest two runs and combine them for the racers best time. All racers are welcome to run this event but only the top 16 in each class will be recorded. Practice starts at 2:pm racing at 4:pm.

On Saturday we will run Hybrid Slalom. Hybrid slalom will be done 1st with qualifying and then head to head racing. Cone penalty is .10 and 15% DQ Limit. We will be using a Trakmate timer with false start detection and Ricky Byrd Style start Ramps. Please be aware that all racers who want to try and qualify are welcome to come but we will only take the top 16 into head to head racing in each class. Practice starts at 9:am racing at 10:30am.

Sunday we will be running Tight Slalom, again with Qualifying and then Head to Head racing. . Cone penalty is .10 and 15% DQ Limit. We will be using a Trakmate timer with false start detection and Ricky Byrd Style start Ramps. Please be aware that all races who want to try and qualify are welcome to come but we will only take the top 16 into head to head racing in each class. Practice starts at 8:am racing at 9:30 am.
Please be aware that the class you claim is the class that you will be the Whole of the race weekend. So, what does this mean? Put simply, once you have claimed your status that is your status and you cannot change it.
Entry fee Includes lunch on the hill Saturday and Sunday by the Boy Scouts of America Crew 152 and three days of great racing.
All entry fees must be paid BY RACE DAY NO EXCEPTIONS!!! This being said we will accept entry fees on the hill on race day as well as PayPal.
You can send your pay pal payment to Zboy74@me.com Place on the comment that you are paying for the worlds and for who. Entry's will be accepted via Pay Pal until October 1st. After October 1st you will need to pay at the hill.

We anticipate being able to give:
1st 800$
2nd 400$
3rd 200$
We will be awarding the same prize money to men pros as well as woman pros, this will be for all round placing, using the ISSA points system; this is assuming that we will have enough racers to cover expenses, but we feel that this should be pretty easy to get too.
