Sk8Kings US Nationals of Downhill Slalom 2016

Sk8Kings US National Slalom Racing Championships - 6th Annual - ISSA Major Event
October 1-2, 2016 (Saturday/Sunday)
North Loretta Street - Oceanside, California (San Diego County)

Come race at THE most important slalom racing event in North America and be a part of history in the making!

Sk8Kings US Nationals will have top competitors vying for national titles, cash and prizes through exciting head-to-head hybrid, a highly technical tight slalom and a fast giant slalom -- all at a gnarly steep hill venue situated in the slalom racing hotbed of the 1970's!

The Legend of La Costa Lives! The La Costa Open was first held in 1975 and with the many races that followed - is the longest running skateboard race in the world. Continuing the La Costa legacy - the 2016 US National Slalom Championships will once again bring these legendary roots together with the modern era race scene. Presented by So Cal Racing and La Costa Boys - the event is sanctioned by the ISSA (International Slalom Skateboard Association) with a Major status official world ranking - making this the top-ranked event in the entire North American hemisphere this season!

PUBLIC/SPECTATORS: You are welcome to come out to watch some great racing on Saturday and Sunday starting about 10am. It's free - just bring your own - chairs, shade, food/drink as the venue is a rustic private road in a neighborhood setting - so there are no services or stores within walking distance. We have porta potties on site. Some parking is available at the top of the hill on Saturday -- overflow and Sunday parking can be found on Capistrano Street. PARKING AT RACE VENUE - LORETTA STREET:
Loretta Street is a rustic private road in a residential area. Parking is available at the top of the hill - space permitting - arrive early for convenient parking. Once that is full, please find a spot to park on Capistrano Street ONLY to avoid inconvenience to the neighbors. On Saturday - there will be more space at the top for cars since our ramp start will be further down the hill. On Sunday - parking at the top will be more limited with our ramp start closer to the top - so we will also allow parking at the bottom of the hill -- but must arrive before 9:00 a.m. and not plan to leave until our race day is done.

FOOD AND OTHER AMENITIES:

We will provide lunch for racers (sandwiches, chips, fruit) on site Saturday and Sunday. Please bring any other supplies with you each day as the closest food or mini-mart is one mile away. Porta-potties will be available on site both Saturday and Sunday. There is little natural shade or seating available so please plan accordingly.

DIVISIONS/CLASSES:
The 2016 US Nationals will be run in an Open Format this year - that is racers will be bracketed/placed by their qualifying times in A, B or C Classes (depending on # of racers/need). Open Format includes all Pro, Am, Masters, Women and Junior division arcers. Final results will be reported/allocated to coincide with each racer's ISSA (self-proclaimed) ranking history for point awards based on event finish results. Self-proclaimed Pro division racers should chose to ride the "A" course whenever a choice is available. Tight Slalom event will offer two courses - "A" and "B". The B Tight course option will offer a lesser degree of difficulty than the A course and will in turn rank a lower result for that racer in the overall standings for the event. All racers will run the same course for the single lane Giant Slalom event. Class division cutoffs will be determined prior to the race based on total # of entrants and details of the lane choice option will be addressed at the riders meeting.

THREE RACE EVENTS - DETAILS:
Race Event #1 description: Hybrid Slalom. Dual lane/head-to-head/ramp start. In the style of the La Costa Boys, everybody races. Each person who pays an entry fee will get to race head to head, in either A, B, or C division, as determined by qualifying. The course will be as challenging as the lower divisions can handle. Cone placement is determined to avoid cracks and pits. Any racer who DQs twice in qualifiers will race in the lowest placing. This is an Open race. Pro, Am, Masters, Women, Jr (17-) will race Open, compete against Open racers, and get their points/ placings based on their overall placing. Hybrid will run on Saturday morning.

Race Event #2 description: Tight Slalom Single lane/rampstart. Racers will choose A or B (Pro or Am) course. Two runs, best time counts. Any run on course A beats any run on course B. Ramp start for all A racers. Ramp or push start for B course. Tight will run on Saturday afternoon - following the Hybrid finals.

Race Event #3 description: Giant Slalom Single lane/ramp start.
All racers will run the same course. Loretta Street is an elevator shaft. This road is a closed, gated, soap box derby hill. However, the soap box derby course starts about 3/4 of the way down the steep part (10% or more grade). The steep part of the road is about 400 feet long, then there is room for another 600-700 feet of moderate to high speed pumping. We expect speeds around 40mph at the top, but the decreasing slope and dominant headwind make stopping at the bottom easy. The surface is a bit slippery, and we will be setting the course around some cracks, but for the most part the surface is smooth, and with grippy wheels, quite fun. The death holes that used to exist have been filled in, so there shouldn't be any surprises for those who get off course. Giant slalom will be run on Sunday morning. If there is interest, there will be a beginner race (juniors under 14) following the Giant slalom event on Sunday.

EVENT T-SHIRTS:

Each registered racer will receive one event t-shirt included with their paid entry. Please be sure to register indicating your shirt size in advance. We must have this info NO LATER THAN September 26, to ensure your size shirt will be available.

SAFETY GEAR AND RELEASE WAIVER:
Helmets are mandatory for all racers and safety gear (knee/elbow pads & full finger gloves strongly recommended). Each racer will be required to sign a waiver/release to gain access to the race course. Minors (under 18 years of age) must have parent or legal guardian present to sign waiver/release in order to participate. Download Waiver Release Form

CASH PURSE AND PRODUCT PRIZE AWARDS:

Cash prize money will be paid out based on the overall results for the three events combined for top finishers - estimated total purse approx $3000. National Skateboard Review is generously sponsoring a guaranteed $1000 minimum prize purse for the top female finishers this year! To qualify for the overall podiums, competitors MUST race all three events. The overall cash payout will be based on entry fees and sponsor money collected.
