The new police station is on Clematis...this hill is Iris, 6 streets south. Between the Kravis center and the School of the Arts (formerly Twin Lakes High, formerly Palm Beach High...the alma mater of both Burt Reynolds and George Hamilton). None are any better or worse, this one just has the least traffic...the street is only a block long! Sunday mornings it's about one car every 5 minutes, one cop every 2 or 3 hours.
Yep, it was crack town then....then it was just piles of rubble for 5 years or so after the bulldozers came. Now you wouldn't believe your eyes what they've done. It's really kind of disgusting...
Blue-hair snowbird race series? Hmmmm....just found a possible tight slalom spot this weekend, smooth as glass like the Charleston bus depot. Unfortunately much shorter.

Yep, I remember those WPB hills now. Is that the new parking garage near the WPB Police Dept? Sure was crackville when I lived in WPB back in the early 90's. Well like I suggested before, run a race there. You could call it the Blue Hair Race Series and run another race day up at that dump road in Ft. Laud.

The hill is downtown, just east of the Amtrak tracks. There is a ridge that runs for several blocks north-south, so all the east-west streets from Okeechobee up to Banyan have hills. We use the least heavily travelled one right behind the opera house. The area used to be crack houses before gentrification started a decade or so ago. Now it's pre-packaged housing, retail, and entertainment area. Either way, you'd have no reason to go there other than the hill ;-) .

RCR, what format will you be using for the races this weekend? I'm thinking of coming over from Alabama, and wanted to know what type of courses and rules will be used. Preparation is everything!

For many years I sported a WPB address. What road were you guys on? Permits and the so forth and you got the workings for the first Snowbird Race. I bet Surfer/Skater/Dentist Scott McCranals (sp?) would be willing to help out with the politics of getting the race approved.
McCranals was one of the best surfers to ever come out of the Palm Beaches and today is well connected in the area. He is a strong supporter of the WPB Skatepark as well as the Palm Beach Chapter of Surfrider. Ed Economy also knows the guy and from what I hear, McCranals owes him one from back in the day.

Ran some cones with Scabs Sunday morning at a short but fast little hill in fabulous downtown West Palm. He set a fun hybrid course, 6 - 10 feet, some inline, some offsets, with sections that required scrubbing speed to make later sections. Fast and fun, and a good little practice for me before Athens. We were both running our Roes for the serious runs...plenty of others boards took runs as well...some FibreFlexes, some Swiss boards...lots of green wheels...
Here's the course...you can see about 2/3 of the 40 or so cones before they fade into oblivion...the course is on the right, the cones on the left are just to block traffic. Yep, it was an outlaw event, although a cop showed up (but was cool with it once we explained what was going on).
Scabs at speed, showing a surf influence.
Then there's me...more of a dancing bear style LOL...the glowing red face tells me I forgot my sunscreen again. Shade was a scarce commodity that day.

The third slalom of the 2002 California Championship series at West LA College featured a tight slalom set by Attila and a fast slalom set by Scott that included an optional jump. Richy Carrasco swept all three skateboard events, while Scott Peer posted the fastest time on the hill on inlines. The three fifth place skateboard finishers all took home sets of Oust Bearings (the bearing of choice for Richy), and every racer got at least one dive into the prize pool for sweat shirts, glasses, and all kinds of prizes. Smiles and good vibes prevailed as we headed home after a fun day of skating.
Tight Slalom (best of 3, 0.1seconds/cone): Richy Carrasco 13.937 Attila Aszodi 14.271 Josh England 15.245 Wes Carpenter 15.488 Scott Johnston 16.354 Tiger Williams 17.560 Mike Gorman 17.598 Michel Kaelon 17.722 Roger Jennings 19.828 Shortboard Fast Slalom (best of 3 runs, 0.2seconds/cone) Richy Carrasco 26.301 (fastest skateboard) Josh England 26.393 Wes Carpenter 26.407 Attila Aszodi 26.604 Roger Jennings 27.910 Micheal Kaelon 30.965 Tiger Williams 31.542 Mike Gorman 31.923
Longboard Fast Slalom (best of 2 runs, 0.2 seconds/cone): Richy Carrasco 26.899 Attila Aszodi 27.748 Wes Carpenter 28.323 Josh England 28.553 Mike Gorman 30.791 Roger Jennings 31.146 Micheal Kaelon 32.529 Tiger Williams DSQ

Bulldog fans are like flahriddah tourists. I wish they'd bowl in the stadium with concrete, then I'd get "those young ladies practicing for the bear", to come ride with me in the world's largest bowl. actually, the largest natural bowl is in PA...a bowled out rock sinkhole thing. I have Skate Police Officer JohnnyB investigating for me. He may need some 75a Flashbacks for that. and his Jetson's Space Scooter...(econ57) p
