SO FLO Slalom dates

OK guys, what`s the deal here? I`d like for y`all to come but as explained I had already made family obligations.
If I have to adjust my schedule, I might be persuaded.
But I`m planning on a 2 day event. I`m not liking the idea of changing my dates for some that don`t plan on being there for the full event.
So how many are we talking about on this tour? Just how solidified is your plans? And how many plan on skating the full event?

no big deal... we'll have the services of RCR, we'll set up cones, run a race, and hours later, we'll continue our assault on concrete bowls. a minor diversion/outlaw style race in our FL tour schedule would suit us better than a big time all-day affair anyhow. who needs a bunch of skate-hungry oldschoolers at their race anyhowzzz...

Well, let's look at this from a practical point of view.
• January is still three months away. • A bunch of northerners and Georgians have pre-planned a trip to S. Florida. • Brady is considering a race on MLK weekend a week later for improve travel chances.
• Well, if the travel for the Northerners is already no problem since they will already be there, why not race the weekend of the 11th? Since there's no way they can make a trip to S. Florida two weekends in a row, then it would appear the weekend of 1/11 would be doable.
• Of course, there might be some of the New England and DC crew who can't make it, but they might not make it anyway no matter what the day.
• So, a race can be on 1/11 when there will DEFINETELY be a crew in town to participate or on 1/18 when there MIGHT be a crew in town. I think planning a race when there is guaranteed attendance is preferable to planning one that is a better date, but no guarantee one way or the other if anyone will take advantage of the three-day weekend to go south.
For me, it makes no difference. I'd come home Sunday night no matter what. It's eight hours and I'll drive it at night. No big deal.
Oh, one last thing: if Brady reconsiders and decides to do it 1/11, you mugs from all over touring S. Florida better better be there! And brings your wallets.

A crew of us from PA are hooking up with Patio for the tour.
The weekend of 1/18 won't work for us.
The tour originally was to start over the MLK weekend, but some non-changable events forced it to be moved to one week prior, 1/10 - 1/16.

P. I told you I wanted to hold the race the 2rd weekend of january. I`d love to plan it so you guys can be there but the 3rd weekend is a better date for me. My daughters birthady is that sunday you suggest and that`s a family obligation I can`t miss. I already promised her a b-day party for her and her friends. Also, the following weekend is a 3 day weekend (MLK day on monday) so easier for those who travel and got`s to go back to work.
Maybe you guys can change your dates? Or extend the trip and hang at OLLiewood for a few?

Getting together in Fairfield County

For the record, I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea about this road. It dates back to 1977 when Interstate 77 opened in SC. It's a frontage road that receives VERY LITTLE in the way of care and maintenance from the highway department. I mean, seriously, why bother? It's a 1-mile frontage road that goes nowhere. As you can see, there is some scrub grass encroaching the edge of the road. Also, this is asphalt that has baked in the SC sun for 25 years. It's pretty bleached out.
The surface, though, I would rate at an 7.5 out of 10. It's not brand new blacktop that's smooth as glass, but it's not a gravelly city street in Buffalo, either. Maybe the best I can compare it to is Gran Elen Drive when it come to quality and evenness. I would also say it's better than Storrow Drive in Boston if you want a decent comparison.
Also, there's a couple of places where the road has "cracked." Nothing serious, just some blemishes along it's 4/10th of a mile from the bottom to the crest of the ridge. What can you do about it? Well, my suggestion is that since we're slalom skaters, WE GO AROUND IT! Plus, as it's so downhll, there's no marbles or sand accumulated anywhere on the surface.
So, start and the bottom and work your way up the hill with 60 cones. If spaced at 20 feet, that's 1200 feet. Great. You're a little over half way to the top. Get your full noses, Full Traks and Avalons and have at it.
Sound like fun?
Oh, Rick. I just read your post. Start Ramp? Are you crazy?:-) Between the angle of that hill and the angle of your start ramp, you'd have skaters going STRAIGHT DOWN to get started! Seriously, this hill IS a start ramp. If you put the start line and no push line 15 feet from the first cone, you'll be wondering if you have to brake by the time you get to the second one!

What 66 was referring to in December

I think what Rick was trying to convey is the notion that we are considering a "get together" at Exit 46 sometime in December between Thanksgiving and Christmas. For some reaon, 66's hyper link didn't quite work. It's the same pic I posted a couple of months ago:
I say "get together" because it might be difficult to plan an organized "race" in the middle of nowhere. More of a case of everyone bring their cones, coolers and lawn chairs and we'll make a day out of riding a big hill. If Rick comes and brings his timing system, we may even get a good idea of who's the fastest.
Sound like fun or what?
