Dave G,
Anything you can tell all of us about the race course surface quality? Could help us all to have an idea what types of wheels to bring.

Sunday Reston Outlaw
On 9/28/2002 ohm wrote in from (207.172.nnn.nnn)

GBJ and PAdan, this will be a true Outlaw session. I haven't skated there yet but drove through the parking lot this week. Bust factor is unknown.

Go out the Dulles toll road and get off at the Reston Parkway exit. Go left at the light. You will go back over the toll toad. The first light is Sunrise Valley Drive. Go right and begin looking to your left. I cannot remember the Company that occupies the building but it is a very large building with many driveway options around the building. If you go past the US Geological Survey sigh you have gone too far. Turn around and look again on your right. The parking lot is kind of in back and ther alot of trees. Call my cell if you cannot find it...703-969-1773

I don't have a contingent plan. Just stoked to ride a new spot.

West LA College rankings
On 9/28/2002 Scott Peer wrote in from (198.81.nnn.nnn)

Due to a series of snafus, mostly related to the results from races in Europe, the IGSA rankings got held up for months. But the results have now been computed, and will be posted at gravity-sports.com next week. Note that the rankings there are based on the top 4 results only, but the California Championship will be based on the total number of races in each discipline minus one. For example, tight slalom will be based on 6 of the 7 tight slalom races.

The rankings so far in tight slalom are:
1 686.30 Richie Carrasco
2 647.57 Attila Aszodi
3 406.99 Mike Gorman
4 405.35 John O'Shea
5 401.20 Roger Jennings
6 400.91 Michael Kaelon
7 219.93 Paul Dunn
8 215.73 Josh England
9 211.91 Wes Carpenter
10 208.37 Bill Wahl
10 208.37 Scott Johnston
12 205.06 Tiger Williams
13 198.97 Siale Saili
14 196.15 Marlon Whifield

GS rankings (combined short/long in this version):
1 889.00 Richie Carrasco
2 879.71 Attila Aszodi
3 826.85 Roger Jennings
4 640.72 John O'Shea
5 598.19 Mike Gorman
6 595.33 Michael Kaelon
7 457.53 Paul Dunn
8 444.50 Barrett Deck
9 431.84 Josh England
10 431.47 Wes Carpenter
11 420.28 Siale Saili
12 410.88 Eddy Craig
13 400.91 Tiger Williams
14 228.77 Steve Olson
15 208.37 Bill Wahl
15 208.37 Brent Kosick
17 201.93 Eric Groff

Velo(city)drome
On 9/23/2002 WesE wrote in from (208.59.nnn.nnn)

Would the plan for the velodrome be - to use one of the walls as a start ramp and then enter a course that runs along the 'flatbottom' of the whole place?

¿(¡)Is the velodrome a concrete bowl with a bike track running around it(!)?

Dude...if you get the velodrome, I'm bringing my pintail and "surfing" 'round and 'round in circles!

Probably as close as I'll get to my dream of riding my one-speed bike around, or dropping in on with a longboard, the high bank at Daytona Speedway...

I also have a spor where a flat course can be set. And to boot, it`s right at a vert ramp. I`m sure you`ve seen pics of Brian Picolo Park? If I work on the managers of the park (my inlaws work there) we could possible use the Velodome. It`s a round track for inliners with banked walls all around. No opposing wall for a banked salom course but one wall could be transformed into a ramp. Then a tight course on butter smooth `crete...hmmm??

SoFla Outlaw Spots
On 9/23/2002 Chuck wrote in from (63.25.nnn.nnn)

Location...that's the toughie. Downtown West Palm is too tenuous...one complaint and the cops'll shut it down. I have a spot in Jupiter, near the stadium in Abacoa, that is wide open, no hassles. It's not very steep, but has a slight grade which would work for a tight or tight/hybrid course. Then there's a roller hockey rink at a public park in West Palm that could be used for a short tight course (think cyber). Drawback is it will cost $7 per person. There may be other locations other South Floridians know about, I'm kinda new at hunting 'em out.

As far as Dump Rd., Brady knows the deal there more than I do, he could tell you whether it would be a good idea or not. Bear in mind trying to organize an "official" race the following weekend, if that's when it happens, could also impact the suitability of any of the potential sites (think La Costa and FCR's request to keep it cool before the race).

Keep us posted on your plans, I'd love to join in the outlaw sessions, help you with a spot, etc., and we'd love to see y'all make the "official" race, if and when it happens.

Seattle Sunday Races
On 9/23/2002 Cascade Slalom Association wrote in from (216.160.nnn.nnn)

The Cascade Slalom Association had a great time racing in the sunshine yesterday at North Seattle Community College. The course was fast and tight - 52 cones with spacing in the 6 to 6.5 foot range, mild offsets, a couple of hips and a nice left sweeping Gilmourian curve thrown in to make it interesting. We had 12 racers attacking the course hard and it could have been anyone's to take home!

Qualifying times:
Corey Moy - 20.32
Gareth Roe - 20.33
Michael Dong - 20.34
Dan Hughes - 20.63
John Stryker - 20.97
Darren Moy - 24.37
Rob Skala - 25.16
Aaron Pass - 27.95
Ben - 28.21
Dan Farmery - 30.00

In the end it came down to Dan Hughes and Michael Dong battling it out for first place. Dan DQ'd on his first run and was a second and a half behind Michael going into the second race - not impossible to overcome but surely a formidable task. Michael is still not 100% recovered from his accident 7 weeks ago where he broke his collar bone. Dan was pretty confident he could beat him but it was not to be. Michael pulled down the fastest run of the day with a 19.14 (18.84 raw time + three cones at .1 second each) even though he had a second and a half advantage going into the race. Michael knows what Dan is capable of doing!!

Final Standings:
1. Michael Dong
2. Dan Hughes
3. Corey Moy
4. Gareth Roe
5. John Stryker

Dan Farmery went home with a set of Abec 11 Stingers for his outstanding performance as Best Improved racer of the day!

Thanks to everyone for coming out. Next weekend we will have the bracketing all squared away (on my laptop) before the race and we will get going a little earlier with practice so we can start racing right away!

Until the World Slalom Skateboard Championships take place in Morro Bay, California on the weekend of October 11th, 12th, and 13th (http://www.fcrseries.com), we will be running cones on both Saturdays and Sundays. Stay tuned for more information or email me at info@roeslalom.com.

Bring your boards and a helmet and be a part of this great sport. Hope to see you all out there!
Chris Raezer – we missed you!
