Hey Ice, I haven't made it to vans with them either but I rode in the afternoon with them in san carlos near mario's house. We were doing 30 UPHILL with a tow rope and even faster downhill. I'm in fremont and I ride often so hit me up. Oh I'm a freeborder if you didn't know. Well, I have a longboard too but I mostly ride Fb downhill.

Last two sunday sessions at Vans has just been too early for me. But if any one wants to get together for a mid afternoon session I'm down. Satuday or Sunday Berkley? Daily City? SF? Vans? Hit me up. I'm on the Members list of HC's Site.

MS GRS Slalom Showdown
On 11/5/2002 Ricky wrote in from (12.39.nnn.nnn)

We are pushing forward in spite of the forcast for rain again. Deja Vu...I searching for a dry place, like I was two weeks ago when I postponed due to rain.
Ramps are ready. Painted and stickered up.

Thanks to all our prize sponsors, Fibreflex, Turner, Tracker, Longskate.com, Bahne, Pleasure Tools, Studio Sk8 & Park X, you guys make it happen. Thanks for your support.

We're going to pull this off, one way or another. Racing in the rain or in a parking garage somewhere doesn't promote the sport as it needs to be promoted, but...

Humor
On 11/4/2002 Dave G wrote in from (208.29.nnn.nnn)

Ahhh. Chuck, I took no offense! I'm just tired of belaboring a point that has become reality that some don't want to accept! I would and always will prefer to race in nice weather. It's easier on the bearings, and much faster! The point I've been making all along is that, if this sport is to see it's potential, than the old mind set, needs to open it's mind! I've been slaloming since '77 and saw it's demise.. Now WE have a chance to turn things around to see that doesn't happen again!!
As an organizer,I take things as I see them, and I as well as an overwhelming majority(90 percent) felt to race in the rain(only a mist) was the proper action to be taken!

It's like when a youngster goes to the first big rollercoaster ride sceaming "I don't wanna!" They do it and at the end of the ride they say "Can we do it again?!"
Or the 83 year old man who recently stated (after his first sky dive) "What was I afraid of all this time? That was GREAT" I have always stated ,I'd call it off in a heartbeat if it got outta' hand" But it didn't! The course was set appropriately, and the racers had a blast!!!
Don't be afraid to take that first big step, If you are, than you're missing out!

Dumb Road
On 11/4/2002 psYch0Lloyd wrote in from (198.160.nnn.nnn)

Spoke to a friend who made it out to Sturgis this year for the annual Harley convention out there. He spoke of extremely hot conditions and that the racing suffered because the short track was just too dry. Most of the time the hill climb was out of the question too. They tried to wet down the surface in order to give the wheels something to bite but it just evaporated away. He said that everything improved as soon as a cold front moved in and the water was able to stay in the ground… so sometimes you just got to add a little water.

I was a pretty lucky kid back in the late 70’s early 80’s and earned a pretty penny doing skateboard shows for Pepsico all over this country. There were some strange conditions encountered from time to time, Mt. St. Helens was memorable that was when we were out in Coeur d’ Alene, ID. But never in our lives had we encountered a stranger surface to ride than that of many a Florida asphalt parking lot or roadway. It seems like they mixed some crushed sea shells in along w/sand for a filler and the shells had the effect of minute hooks grabbing the wheel w/every turn decelerating you instead of letting you gain momentum. Pumping on the flats seemed like working your way uphill. Add to that a heat wave and the melty course would be just impossible. Hope you guys don’t have to deal w/this type of thing out where you are…

hey anyone let me know if you picked up a hi-8 sharp video cammara, in a small black cammara bag. i walked off and left it somewhere at the event. I know it's gone, but thought i would post it up. Anyone that looks at the video tape will know it's mine, if they know me. sucks to be a burn-out......

cabbage

trade a complete for a safe return.it's only hi-8, or send me the tape, and I'll send you the charger, and owners manual.

Hey Scabs, apparently your buddy Chuck don't know when to quit! Oh well, must be the maturity thing he spoke of!
Re: timing systems, When we're too lazy to be formal, I've found that you put an xtra cone at he end of the course. This cone represents the finish line and is to be purposely hit! The starter is in charge of start/stop. That way there's no "lack of communication" i.e walkie talkie problems etc... The starter uses the normal countdown and starts the watch on "GO" he then stops the watch when he see's the "finish cone" hit!! Works tremendously for a single lane course!! Just the Knucklehead inventor coming out in me! I hope you have your regular dry weather, don't we all want that???

Dump Rd Nov 17
On 11/3/2002 Brady wrote in from (66.21.nnn.nnn)

I`m hoping we can do a little outlaw session at Dump Rd on sunday the 17th. We have the party at OLLiewood on the 16 and then the THBBHJ on the evening of the 17th. Got lots of folks coming in from around the state for this weekend fest. Heck, I`ll extend an invite to y`all. This would be a good chance to expose TH to the thrills of slalom.

I do need some ideas on a cheap timimg system. Unless someone can bring a real one. I`m thinking stop watches and walkie talkies? Who calls the start? The guy at the top of the hill or the guy at the bottom of the finish line?

Any input?

Oh, it`s an outlaw event...just filler in between the party ond THBBHJ.

Wow, words can't describe how good a time I had today. After arriving and thinking I couldn't skate the course with my 47", Cabbage hooked me up with the 40" Gravity Pro he had with him and it was cream cheese from there. Props to Red Bull and all the riders who showed up for a day that won't soon be forgotten. As I heard one person say, "there is no reason to ever have a normal slalom race again without banks" that sums it up for me. Can't wait for the party tonight. Peace out.
